Miri, that was so sweet!
And I like Felix more and more as you write him.

@Lupus- The alienage is tough,yo... no really, it's just a tiny toy sword. ^_^

@Miri - That was too darling. Anders' logic like that of any four year-old is totally infallible. And Felix's reaction? My heart grew three sizes. :D

Heh. I just realized you gave Mae and Anders the same age gap I gave Maggie and Anders.

(I figured it was just enough they wouldn't have run in the same circles in their tower years, but not so much it would be an issue once they were both in their 20s)

Also, I am freaking out over Elder Scrolls 5 next year. Between that, the new dragon age, and mass effect I'm screwed.

I can't resist - the "he didn't do it" line in this thread title makes me in mind of "Chicago", the musical, and so, I burst into song.....

<ragtime music plays>
"He didn't do it......but if he did it................You would'a done the same!!!!!"

Sometime a while ago, I decided that Anders was 26 during Awakenings. No clue what I based that on or why. I must have had some cockamamie reason at the time though.
It didn't work against my established timeline of Mae being 21, so I went with it

I made him thirty. The lines around his eyes made me think he was a bit older. (in truth, he's got far more lines around his eyes than I do around mine, and I'm 31) Also, Nathaniel is 30 per word of god, and they seemed to be roughly the same age.

(which, according to Riordan in Origins, makes both of them rather old for new recruits)

Maggie's old compared to most Wardens in Origins, though. Since she was such a screw up they put off her harrowing.

I can see WHY they didn't give most characters concrete ages, but sometimes I wish they were a bit more specific. I've never been able to figure out how old Oghren is even remotely.

I pegged Oghren as late thirties, early forties. But I get the impression dwarves live longer than other races so he could be in his fifties. He's got one of those faces that's permanently middle aged.

And thanks to all for the lovely comments. I have some notions of writing a Felix/Joscelyn romance fic covering her dalliance with Irving and her meeting with Felix, but it's way, way, way on the backburner considering all the other things I'm writing.

Little Anders is just too darling to write though.

See, I've got some hella eye crinkles and I'm only 23. I chalked that up more to his eyes being fairly deepset.
I just loaded up my old reference file and this is what it said about Anders age-wise:
"-Late 20's-30-ish
-Time to escape seven times
-Time to meander (run around? mosey? boogie down? Come up with appropriate word for this.) about during those escapes.
-Taken to Tower early/mid teens
-Not too old - Asking for Indy/Marion sitch
-Nathaniel older"

For Sigrun and Oghren I basically wrote, heck if I know. Dwarves are hard to place.

I figured mid to late 30s as well, but only after meeting Branka.  Or at least I write him that way.
Dwarves do live longer, according to lore, but not by an extreme degree. It just says it's because they're "hardier" than humans and elves. So I would guess average dwarf life span= extremely strong and healthy human's life span.

(and sarah gave me a fantastic prompt for the AOA contest!)

I'm not telling what it is- I'm actually putting it at the end of the story instead of on top like I usually do, since I don't want to wreck the surprise.

Yay! I can't wait.

...also I think FF.net hates me...it's eating everything I throw at it.

FF.net is a bastard that way. It's like an abusive lover.

Also, first tablet sketch of Anders that I actually like a bit. I know it's yellow, I had intended to trace over it once I finished but I was much happier with this and scrapped the trace.

That was officially awesome. Posted Image

She wasn't a bad person or anything, I don't think, she was just too Jory-ish to really make it and it had to happen sooner or later. Would the news of what happened stay within those who happened to be right there?

@ Miri - Wow! You're getting the hang of it fast

@ Lupus - decent prompt, well handled. I wonder how often that would happen? *shudders*

@Lupus Thanks! Also, I started a review on ff.net which I had to abandon due to toddler meltdown - but I MUST give credit to Sarah for an absolutely awesome prompt and to Lupus for her masterful handling of it. Great, great stuff!

Thanks, everyone! I figured it would come out slightly dark, but there was no way not to do dark with that prompt. And it gave me a chance to write a really long battle scene, which I don't do often enough. :)

@Sarah: I think the news would mostly stay there, I made a point of having other characters who had a long history with the Wardens for that reason. Oghren would probably get told, either by Anders or Maggie herself, and Tobias might tell Aidan, but he's a blood mage, too, so it's not like he would be scandalized. I can't see it going further than that.

@Wedger: I suspect it would probably happen less often than expected, just because I can't see normal people actually being attracted to a life as a Grey Warden, for the most part. My suspicion is that most people who join voluntarily are slightly outside of society as it is, especially since Maggie tries to avoid the Jory types as much as possible.

I loved that prompt. It is something that I've been wanting to address.

@Sarah, evil Namaya was evil :D poor Anders!

@Miri, I wrote on dA and I want to repeat that it was awesome! And I officially love Felix.

@Lupus, creepy. And awesome. Well, she left Maggie no choice.

I'm still having a problem with Rhiamon and Nathaniel, because I don't know how she can explain it to him. Dwarves didn't have the problem. Oghren probably said to Sigrun: "What? Oh, this? Ignore it, the woman is crazy. Err, in a good way. Argh, sod it! Let's go kill some ogres!" And Anders was "omfg", but Rhia saved him from Rylock, so at least he was grateful.

@Gala I don't think Nate would care. He's practical enough to accept that some things are necessary for the greater good. imho anyway. (erm assuming you're talking about what I think you are, if you're not ignore my butting in).

@Avilia, I hope he won't have issues with that. He will find out eventually, probably after the Mother is slain, because Rhia prefers to stay away from him as far as possible, they both are icy cold to each other for some reason. It happens sometimes to people. You know this person is a good man, you can trust him, but he makes you sick and you want to kick him just because his existence pisses you off. So if Nate will find out, he may say something and she will be too mad about it to try to explain. His only chance to survive is to be silent about it or to ask Anders. But I guess he's smart enough not to say: "OMFG, your existence is an offence to Maker!"

So silent here today. I blame the weather. My internet at work nearly died and I just can't work without it.
We need something hot to melt the snow a little :o:

P.S. And I'm dancing a crazy happy dance because I got my ToRCH results and it says that I had a secret ninja form of rubella when I was a kid and now I don't need to worry about it anymore.

@Miri Yay! More tales from Anders' childhood. Joscelyn is wonderful and Felix is so great. Posted Image

@Gala Congratulations on ninja rubella! And it is cold and wintry here. It's nothing like what other places have to deal with, but it is pretty sucky. Fortunately I was just diagnosed with bronchitis, so I get to hide at home for a few days and wrap myself around a humidifier. I should write or do some work, but all I feel like doing is joining the pet pile on the couch and watching horrible daytime television.
