My first few boyfriends were shorter than me. When I finally went out with someone who was taller it was a bit like falling in love for the first time ;).

I'm so going to romance Varric if it's possible (unless Anders is there of course, in which case HELLOO!).

I'm 5'8" irl - its always an issue for me. Silly I know but there it is. I'm sure its due to some deep seated issues I'm carrying around.

I think I've got an idea for the prompt - I've never tried to write Morrigan before so it should be fun to attempt it :)

I'm just shy of 5'2". Not many guys shorter than that.

I did date someone who was a hair shorter than me in my Giant Goth Boots... but I don't normally wear six inch stacked platforms. Not exactly practical for anything but standing around a club looking Fierce. And trying not to fall down drunk. Drove him nuts, though.

(which reminds me that I should decide what to wear since I'm getting dragged out tonight, being DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE with school)

Which puts me off my "finish AOA chapter" plans... but such is life.

I like writing Morrigan, to be honest. I'm looking forward to this one.

Morrigan is one of the most fun characters to write IMO. I love turning off my politeness filter to channel her. My kind of lady.

I don't like this elf guy to be honest, to me he looks like that tevinter slaver was trying to change his gender into a female and stopped halfway. And I still hope to seduce a manly and tall qunari warrior XD And my Hawke could use her qunari boyfriend horns to dry the laundry. Very useful.

Ooooh, and the new prompt is great!

My prompt response. As this sort of follows from the 'Anders in Origins' theme, I've set it in the same universe. Ceri the Grey Warden.

Ceri was one of my Origins PCs - before I decided her look and personality was better suited to being an ever so slightly unhinged Tevinter blood mage. Which means of course, she has a game save. Being me, I am unable to do a story where any of those decisions are different. Why am I telling you all this? So you'll know why Anders doesn't meet Morrigan until Redcliffe Castle when she asks Ceri to agree to organise a sperm donor.

Oh, this may require extreme suspension of both logic and disbelief.

. . .

"Why are you laughing? I see nothing humorous in this." Morrigan frowned at the Warden. "My offer is quite serious."

"Oh. Oh." Trying her best to stop laughing, Ceri straightened, still clutching her stomach. "You want me to ask Alistair to have sex with you? That's funny."

"I assure you I am not intending humour."

"That's why its funny!" The expression on Morrigan's face almost made her laugh again, but after clearing her throat a few times she managed to suppress the urge. "Alistair would rather die than have sex with you."

"Flattering. However, his feelings are not important, what is important is saving your life."

"My life? I thought you wanted the Archdemon's soul."

"True. However. It will also save your life. Think of Zevran if you won't think of yourself. How will he feel if his love dies?" Morrigan sighed when Ceri started laughing again. "Will you stop that?"

"Alistair wants to kill the Archdemon."

"He is the king! He cannot sacrifice himself in your place."

"Why not? He wants to and I don't want to. I think that's fair." Ceri blinked when Morrigan said something very rude. "Oh, there's no need for that kind of language." It did seem a shame that Morrigan had come all this way for sex and she wasn't going to get any. "I know! Anders."

"Who, or what, is an Anders?"

"I thought you said you'd watched us? You can't have been watching very closely."

A few deep breaths and Morrigan could speak without screaming. "Who. Is. He?"

"A mage. Alistair found him just before we went to Orzammar. He's great fun and always ready for sex. You'll like him."

"Is he a Warden?"

"Of course not. What a silly question. I can't do the joining. Alistair can't do the joining. So how could we have made a Warden?"

Morrigan wasn't sure if Ceri was really this stupid or she was playing some kind of game with her. It couldn't matter. Her goal was the soul of the Archdemon and she'd have it, come what may. "If he is not a Warden he is of no use to me."

"You want Alistair or no one?"

Finally! Thank the gods. It has penetrated that thick skull. "If you would."

. . .

"Anders!"

Used to Ceri's excitability by now, Anders merely nodded. "Yes Ceri."

"I have a woman for you. If you feel like sex."

"Always, you know that." There'd be more to than that. There usually was. Anders had no objection to Ceri finding him women, unfortunately, she hadn't done so up until this moment. "And?"

"Its Morrigan." After pushing the door of his room closed, she leaned back against it. "She wants Alistair to do it. She says she can stop one of us dying when we kill the Archdemon."

"I see."

"Old magic." His eyebrows lifted. "Alistair didn't like her. She was rude to him so I sent her back to her mother."

"Seems fair."

"I don't need trouble in camp. Its difficult enough when we like each other." Ceri waited but Anders didn't move. "Will you sleep with her?"

"I think she'll notice I'm not Alistair." One side of her mouth lifted. "Oh I see. Do we have a reason for tricking her?"

"I'm naturally mean?"

"Try again."

"Her mother is Flemeth. Have you heard of her? She's a very old and very powerful. She also saved my life after Ostagar. I don't like sending Morrigan back to her thinking I wouldn't help. This way she may just think something went wrong with the ritual." It might not work, but Ceri had a feeling that Flemeth was best kept as an ally of the Wardens, if at all possible.

While Anders had no objection to sleeping with strange women, he was concerned that Ceri seemed to be so lightly dismissing the chance to save her own life. "You haven't considered asking Alistair."

"No."

"I know you say he didn't like this Morrigan but I'm sure you could persuade him. If you wished to."

"I don't wish to."

"Ceri."

"No. Its my job to kill it and I will kill it. Alistair needs to be king. I didn't go to all this trouble just to let him die now."

"I wouldn't have thought you the type to seek death."

"Not seeking it, accepting it. Its my duty to protect Alistair." Ceri had known from the moment Riordan had told them what would happen that it was her duty to take the final blow.

"That's very noble of you Ceri. Very noble. If a little stupid."

"Stupid?"

"Stupid. You're being offered a way out of what you thought was inevitable death. Why not take it?"

"Anders." How could she explain this? "This may be a way out for me, for Alistair, but what about Ferelden? What about Thedas? The Archdemon dies, the Blight is ended but at what cost?"

"A little sex?"

"Perhaps that would be all it was, but what if it isn't? I don't know Morrigan well and what I do know doesn't lead me to trust her motives. She admitted to me that she wants the soul of the Old God. That's a lot of power to give someone I don't trust. That's a lot of power to give Flemeth."

"Perhaps Morrigan doesn't intend giving the child to Flemeth."

"I can't take that chance. The cost of one life isn't worth it. Its only thirty years anyway." She waved thirty years away with one hand. "What's thirty years?"

"Its better than fifteen."

"Anders. It can't matter. Alistair will be king whether he likes it or not. He'll find some nice noble to marry and they'll have a nice heir."

"What about Zev?" Her determined expression waivered for just a moment, but it was long enough that he could see it. "Have you thought about him at all?"

"Yes. He'll be fine."

"You dismiss his feelings for you very lightly."

No, she'd simply cried it out already. And it wasn't something she was going to discuss with Anders. "He'll be fine."

Anders had seen that expression often enough to know there was no point arguing. "Fine. I'll sleep with her."

. . .

Morrigan couldn't help a triumphant smile when Ceri returned with Alistair. "Have you reached a decision?"

"Yes, Alistair has agreed to your ritual."

@Avilia: So I take it Ceri tricked her so there wouldn't be a risk of Morrigan talking Alistair into it? How does she propose to fool Morrigan, though? Anders and Alistair don't look THAT much alike, even if Morrigan hasn't seen them for awhile.

She did.  Died honourably killing the AD leaving Alistair to rule alone and Zev to take over the Crows.  Oddly, Alistair didn't mention that fact when he saw her at the Vigil Posted Image

I know, I know, I'm not very good at roleplaying.  But I liked her so much I couldn't bear to leave her dead.

My prompt fill:

Short background for this fic for those who haven't read Consequences, and for those who have as well, because Consequences is in the process of being re-worked. Morrigan's son, Fion has shown up. Miranda and Alistair are dead and Flemeth is hunting for Fion. Duncan is King and Anders, Oghren, Zevran, Leliana and Yuri (childhood friend of Alistair's, now a Templar) are off saving the world together.

An Interesting Woman

He hated the fade. More particularly, he hated the fade when she wasn't with him. Well, to be honest, he hated most things when she wasn't with him. He was going to have harsh words with Sigrun - and with Duncan for that matter - how dare there be a national crisis at a time when Neria was busy in Kirkwall? A short separation, he'd been certain - lord knows they didn't have enough time to be wasting on long ones, not now.

And he was absolutely exhausted. Two days, he and Rowan had spent on watch over Fion's sleeping form. Bizarre, that boy - well, grown man really. He looked so much like Alistair it made him sad - a reminder of who they'd lost - especially with those strange yellow eyes closed. Another day had been spent running from the giant dragon his grandmother had become - not that Anders hadn't faced many things in this life that were almost as frightening, but he wouldn't be able to close his eyes for a good long while without seeing the rows of teeth ready to crunch him...

Anders shuddered and tried to bring his attention back to the present. He ran his hand through his greying hair and then along his jaw - he needed a shave and a wash and a bed and about six days solid sleep.

The flap of wings brought him out of his reverie as a large hawk landed near their fire. Ah - this would be Morrigan. Anders own hawk form was not nearly as imposing as the forest witch's and he felt briefly jealous before remembering that one of the witch's other forms was a spider and feeling another pang of separation.

Poor old Bess, he thought, before the bird's form shimmered and wavered, turning into one of the most beautiful women he'd ever seen.

Huh, he thought. Then shook his head in wonderment. It really bemused him, sometimes, the luck Alistair had with women. That's where Fion got the eyes then.

Later that evening, when he'd finally managed some sleep and Leliana and Yuri woke him for his watch Morrigan came to him. He frowned as she approached. What was it with apostates other than him and their ability to stay young?

"You are Anders, are you not?" she said.

He raised an eyebrow. "Most of the time," he said, guardedly.

"Fion mentioned you have shapeshifting magic," she said. "Where did you learn it?"

"Why do you ask?"

She pursed her lips. "I was told my mother was the only mage still capable of those spells."

"Well, you were obviously misinformed," he said, suddenly wanting the conversation over. He missed Neria with fierceness that almost hurt. "We recruited an apostate... oh, it would be seventeen years ago now. She learned shapeshifting from the Dalish."

"What forms can you take?"

"I only take the hawk form," he said. "And only in an emergency. My.... the senior mage warden takes six forms."

She raised a delicate eyebrow. "Six?"

He allowed himself a small grin of pride. "Yes. Six." And I'd pay to see your spider face off against Bess. Odds are yours isn't a queen.

"I am impressed. Would you consider showing me your hawk form? I would like to see if the spells differ from my mother's..."

He shifted uncomfortably. "I'd prefer not," he said.

"Why?"

She was certainly direct. "I'm not the best at it, to be honest. Hence the only-in-an-emergency thing. Neria..." his breath hitched a little at the name, "I'm certain our mage lieutenant would be willing to show you should you care to visit the Vigil once we're finished here."

"I doubt I will have the time," she said. "'Twould be much better if you showed me now."

"No."

"Why not?"

Anders rolled his eyes. "Because I can't transform cloth," he snapped. "I never mastered it. I'd have to be naked, and although it wouldn't be the first time I was naked in front of a beautiful woman I'd prefer if it were under different circumstances, thank you very much."

The witch looked at him blankly for a few moments, before exploding into laughter. He glared at her. Not embarrassed - no, he was old enough these days for embarrassment to be a luxury rather than a permanent state of being - but certainly... annoyed.

"Fine," he said, and started undoing his belts. The witch's laughter stilled suddenly, and he felt the appraising rake of her strange eyes as he let his robes fall to the ground. He was about to start on his smallclothes when a familiar voice floated across the fire.

"Hey, hey! What's this? And why haven't I been invited?"

Morrigan's eyes, which had burned with a sudden interest as Anders disrobed, flashed with anger. "I fail to understand how that odious creature continues to endear himself to others." Anders grinned.

"Oghren?" he said. "He grows on you." Morrigan pursed her lips and Anders laughed. "Shall we postpone this, dear lady?"

"Sparklefingers, if Neria finds out you're hanging around naked with apostates she'll tan your hide," the dwarf said as he approached.

"I'm hardly naked, Oghren," Anders said mildly, eyeing Morrigan, whose cheeks looked suspiciously red even in the dim firelight and making no move to retrieve his robes. "And I believe Morrigan was just leaving."

The witch spun on her heel and walked back towards her tent.

"I'm serious, Anders. What the sod are you doing out here with that ****?"

"She wanted to see me shapeshift, Oghren."

"Oh, so that's what they're calling it these days."

Anders laughed and clapped his friend on his back. "Come on, skunkface," he said. "Let's get some rest."

"Get your hands off me, you manskirt wearing freak. At least until you've got your clothes back on, any way."

"If you say so," Anders said. He watched Morrigan walk for a moment before grabbing his robes from the ground and pulling them over his head. There was no doubt she was an interesting woman, but he'd spent his life surrounded by interesting women.

One day he'd like to meet a dull one. Just for variety.

@Lupus: Congrats on finishing your semester!!

@Avilia: I like Ceri's staunch take on responsibility. Very honorable :) Nice work!

@Miri: Imagining Anders as a greying man is really quite pleasant :) I love the story!

I was going to do a comic for this one, but again - we have guests for the weekend (the great part about living in Florida, everyone likes to visit) and am pretty sure I won't get a chance to draw any of it out.

In written form:
Anders and Morrigan: Eight Legs in the Keep

It was winter at the Vigil. Nights were growing colder and longer, forcing even the warmest-blooded of wardens to hide under a thick blanket. Thus it was common to find the party holed up in the library, fires ablaze and cupping mugs of various warmed beverages. Anders had found a spot on a couch complete with an unclaimed bearskin blanket sunk into it, basking in the glow from the embers. His cat, Ser Pounce-a-lot trotted into the library and up to the mage.

Ser Pounce was an excellent mouser and was quickly running out of furry things to stalk and kill in the midst of winter. He had switched to the only other option in the keep, the spiders that were plentiful in the library. Well, used to be plentiful if Pounce had anything to say about it.

"You should not keep a wild animal, such as this one, as a pet Ser Mage." a glowering sultry voice emanated from the other chair.

Anders looked down at the kitty, who had appeared to take slight offense.

"Oh don't be silly Morrigan, Pounce isn't wild." He stoked the cats head." Just look, all he wants to do is curl up by the fire. Not very wild if you ask me."  Anders trailed off, letting the kitty hop into his lap.

"It's not right to keep the beast caged in here, Anders." Morrigan's tone growing more condescending with each word.

"What am I going to do, put him outside?" Anders turned to the woman in the chair "to freeze to death?"

"Animals belong outside Anders. He could sleep in the barn." She offered.

Anders turned away from her with disgust, muttering something about someone else sleeping in barn.

Just then, Pounce's little copper head shot up. His eyes narrowed in on something small and brown moving in the corner. The cat jumped up with joy and went to investigate.

Slowly and silently he stalked the 8-legged creature, watching it's movements, interpreting it's next moves.  He readied himself, getting down on his haunches. Pounce waited, then with lightening speed took a powerful swat at the unsuspecting spider. The force of the attack sent it straight into the wall where the cat proceded to swat at the creature again and again. The cat danced around it's prey, batting it back and forth across the floor pausing only to see if it was still alive, or no longer a worthy toy.

Anders looked up from his book and smiled. "Thats a good kitty" he chuckled.

Morrigan stood up and walked over to the cat. "He's not even been clean about it! Anders, there are legs everywhere. This is not right."

The cat stopped it's attack and looked up at the angry woman with 2 of the spider legs protruding out of his mouth. "Oh I will not have this mess in our library!" she exclaimed and stormed out.

Anders laughed to himself as he watched Pounce spy new prey out in the hallway. The cat took off after the slightly more alive spider and left Anders to his very warm comfortable couch.

Not more than a few seconds later Anders heard a terrible feline screech followed by Pounce's clawed feet tearing back down the hallway to the library. The mage quickly swept out in the hallway to see Pounce running to him full speed with sheer terror written in his eyes. Just beyond him, taking up the whole passageway was a hulking giant spider still glowing slightly purple. He was startled for a moment, but was soon far more concerned with the cat claws that were quickly scaling his body.
"Oh come now Morrigan? Why would you scare my cat?"

The spider disappeared into a cloud of purple and green shimmer and Morrigan emerged.

"I don't like finding random creature parts strewn about the keep!" she replied simply. "Now maybe he'll think about going after something with so many detachable legs."

Pounce, well hidden inside the second layer of Ander's robe was trembling, but seemed to agree.

@Miri - I loved that. You put a lot of detail and atmosphere in a short prompt answer. I like the mature Anders.
@Estral - Poor Pounce! I knew I didn't like Morrigan - its his right to eat spiders if he wants to!

@Estral - thanks :)  She suprises me sometimes ;-)

@Estral Thanks! And Morrigan scaring Pounce *shakes her finger at the naughty apostate* not a nice thing to do to animals! I loved it ;)

@Avilia Consequences is a full fic but I wrote it before everything else in the Beginnings universe (so before OWAM and Fractures) and Neria didn't exactly exist except in potentia. So the details are all there underneath. I find it's so much easier to write in a universe where the backstories are already present. I'm reworking it so Neria is at least mentioned (if not actually present - I'm still debating that part).

@MIri: You were thinking of Sean Connery Anders then, weren't you? ;)

@Avilia: That was fun. Probably one of Anders better blight era duties. And for Morrigan probably better than with a virgin who loathes her. So really, win win. Other than Flemeth.

@Estral: I'm dying at the image of pounce scaling Anders. My cat does that when she's freaked out, too.

I don't know, the more I think about it the more uncomfortable I get with that. Denying her her OGB is one thing but to trick her into thinking she's getting it and to saddle her with a kid that she won't want and who, given that, she might not be the best mother to is really **** behavior and I don't think she deserves it.

@Sarah I didn't even think about that to be honest. Until I read your comment I was assuming the ritual wouldn't work. As in she wouldn't get pregnant from it unless it was a grey warden. I don't know enough about how its supposed to work to say if she would be. I think we can probably assume she'd realise it wasn't Alistair before they got into it properly.

Tricking her into having sex with someone when she thinks its someone else is a pretty rotten thing to do as well.

hehe there's a thought.  The conversation between Morrigan and Anders that ensues when she realises he's not Alistair.  What does she do?  What does he do?  Do they still do the deed?  Hmm.
