Since I missed this before:
@Miri: Yeah, I'm hoping to start my Phd in the fall. I just finished my BA, but since I know I'll be getting a PhD eventually I decided not to bother with the MA for now. I may go back eventually and get one in something different- focusing on Irish lit maybe, since my PhD will be Renaissance lit-centric.
A doctorate is basically required to teach at the college level here. You can get by with a MA but you've got to be something really special to ever get tenure without a Phd. Like, top X scholar in the country kind of special.

Top of page AGAIN?

I can never get enough of that Mage in the rain. I hope you get the school you want, Lupus. You'll end up being the funky professor. The idea of being Doctor really appeals but the amount of work involved is kind of staggering.

Oh, and I finished this:

Thanks! I'm still waiting to find out how I did on my undergrad thesis. I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I think I managed to conclusively dismantle one of the major schools of thought in Shakespearean scholarship, which was kind of exciting.

No idea if they'll say it's all BS, but I'm pleased with it.

Love it Miri :) The sketches you posted were really neat to see too, I like how you built the faces up from the circles.

@Lupus: Good luck, sounds like a really interesting thesis!

Mmmmm towel Anders!

@Estral Thanks! And YUM. I love that one.

I'm so doing a full nude of Anders when I can actually get the proportions right. At the moment all my full body sketches look like bobbleheads or pinheads with wonky boobs. Practice practice!

Full nude? Oh my! I don't think I could do that... being an American I have no, um, firsthand experience with a certain part of the male anatomy in it's entirely natural state, and something tells me Anders isn't Jewish. *ahem*

Oh my! Is it more common in America than here? Actually all my boyfriends bar one before my husband were Jewish so I have little experience with the appendage o naturale either ;). (hubby is not Jewish, but also... um... are we really having this discussion?) However, there are many other visuals out there!

Speaking of full nudes - this NSFW picture of Alistair is another reason I've been thinking about drawing full nudes. Maybe Anders will have some strategically placed mistletoe or something ;).

Heh, my man once told me that when women are left in a room without any men they start to discuss things which can make even an old soldier like himself blush. Our thread is completely shameless. ))) Just like Anders himself.

Hooray! I'm all for shamelessness ;). Seriously though, have I expressed love for this thread lately? Because I love you guys. And it's not just the wine talking...

@Lupus/Miri, *clears throat* Now, I really only know most of this from anatomy books, as I'm A. an American and B. OCD, so anything more hygenic is a plus, but here we go...
The mentula naturalis, if I'm allowed to use slightly vulgar Latin, because Latin classes up any discussion, is easier to draw in my opinion. Fortunately once Thundercats are go! the whole set up can look pretty much the same. Not that it always will, there are factors upon factors to take into account, but ya know.
One could also argue that the Chantry would be all up on controlling ever facet of everyone's life, even the state of their business, so they would be all about the Brit milah.
....This falls under the category of "what are things I've thought about far toooooo often".... XD

Oh my, we do discuss it!

Well, I can add to that that Mr. Cadaver we had in uni was without that part at all, although he was once a male. I don't want to think who did that to poor fellow and why. :? And the manipulation you talk about is extremely rare thing here. I guess I could have more references than anybody if I wanted to draw it.

Wow, I miss all the really good conversations when I'm out drinking...
@Gala- that is so true about women when there's no men around. The things I discuss with my best female friend would probably send my best male friend running from the room.  While making this face :o
@Miri: Not just more common- we're talking basically universal. There is a strong movement to change that now, but it's fairly recent.
@Cave: your usage of the line "thundercats are go!" nearly made me fall out of my chair laughing. I'm going to have a very hard time not saying that the next time, um, the opportunity arises.
Good to know that once the stage is set the leading man basically looks the same, though I think for smut writing purposes I may just decide that the chantry's all about keepin it kosher. Write what you know and so forth...

To continue the awkward discussion - maybe the elves do it but not humans? I've also read a fic where the Ferelden aristocrats do it but not the commoners - which makes sense - after all it is an operation and it would require someone skilled to perform it.

@Lupus There's a push here to stop it as well, I think it was nearly as common. We decided no for our son, based on the fact that, when it gets down to it, the piece of anatomy in question belongs to him, not us, and he should get to decide what happens to it.

@Cave: "Thundercats are go".... haha, that is spectacular.

I can see the elves (especially Dalish) being all about the ritual of the process. I could also see the circle attempting something similar - but as a lot of male mages come to the circle at an age where it would be a *very* painful operation, can't see the head enchanter pushing the issue.

That all being said, this is a wonderfully hilarious discussion.

Yes indeed - it's amazing what you end up discussing in the interests of artistic accuracy!

Oooh, good point on the dalish.

I've spent too much time thinking about this today.

@ Lupus- Seriously, that's what I think in my head every time. My brain is a scary place.

I could totally see the Dalish doing it. And, I mean a mohel doesn't have to be a doctor. So a trained religious figure performing said task has a real world equivalent, so definitely possible. Actually, who is to say the elves even have this particular issue? It might be a non-issue for them.
Oh great, now I'm going to spend a few hours wondering about that. XD.

For the record, as I've drawn it so far, Anders isn't, but Alistair is. I blame the Chantry.

I'm sure somewhere in that 800 page Alistair thread there's a good dozen page discussion on just this topic.  I know I've seen a "who is bigger, Alistair or Zevran" discussion more than once.  (apparently that one is Zevran per word of god.  No kidding.)

Who was on Alistair's side in that situation? Honestly?
It is a little comforting that that got an official answer. I think about these things for my characters, even if I'm never going to tell anyone. I even know what side they dress to as well. It affects the way that they'll stand.

The Alistair thread. ;)

But really, a man doesn't develop the kind of confidence Zevran has for no reason... ;)

And I got four of my grades so far. An A in my drama, American lit and (strangely enough) philosophy class, an A- in Dostoevsky. Still waiting on my thesis grade, though.
