FWIS so far, it seems like they watered the character down a bit. Not so much ruined him, but taking a few steps in that direction.

I just hope he doesn't wind up being another Connor... At least that stint was rather brief.

I completely agree with you.  I'm really disappointed.  I loved Anders' snarky personality.  I'm not so certain that what they did to him is a good thing.

And if the spirit is in fact the same one from Awakening, they really ruined that character (not that I really cared for him to begin with; I often sent him on his way after the Baroness was slain). The only possible saving feature is knowing that spirits can change what type they are.

Of course, this is just based on what they presented. Could be wrong, though...

What is this talk of "vengeance"? Did Justice become a demon?

From the Anders page->

"Anders, the light-hearted rebel mage from Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening, has changed. Urged by his friend Justice to fight the Circle of Magi more actively, Anders agreed to become Justice's human host… only to find that his anger at the Circle warped Justice into the demonic spirit of Vengeance. Now Anders must struggle mentally and physically to maintain his control over the demon within... at least long enough to see the Circle of Magi overturned forever."

I actually don't think Justice's character would be ruined by this. In Awakening, we already find out that demons are just spirits who turn their eye to the mortal realm and are envious of what they see and the possibility of Justice become a demon is raised more than once (Justice seems quite worried about this). Nathaniel says a few words in favor of Justice possessing a willing living host and Anders appeared to be willing at first. Unfortunately, his more negative emotions ended up corrupting Justice in a way he didn't have to deal with with the dead Kristoff. If Justice is convinced that he can help Anders seek justice for the mages (which he already encouraged Anders to do in Awakening) by possessing him then it's completely in-character...for him. I'm not sure why the hell Anders thinks it's a good idea. Posted Image

Damn, the one conversation of Justice/Anders that I remembered from Awakening was whether or not a spirit can become a demon. Confirmed.

So it's offical then? Anders is in DA2 as a companion???!?!?!?!?!?! Ok, my approval of DA2 just increased by 20. And Justice, too, so it's like a 2 for 1 deal on Awakenings companions. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He better be romancable this time, and there had better be a certain ginger tabby kitten accompanying him, or my wrath shall be great indeed.

Ok, Anders just single-handedly (well to be fair, Justice too) raised my interest in the game. At last, one character I am really looking forward to!

I played through DAO 14 times, on my 15th playthrough. I think DA2 may be a one hit wonder for me and such a shame. I would have rather they not put anyone we already knew from the previous game instead of changing it so much as to put a demon inside Anders, one of my favorite characters. I'll play the game once because I did buy it, but it may be a one hit wonder for me. If I hate what they did, I won't play it again. Honestly, I feel let down. I think Anders would have done perfectly well on his own with femHawke mage who hates the chantry and templars too.

Judging by GOA and WH, I think Pouncy stayed with the Warden ;)

@Sevalaricgirl I disagree completely. I think it would be hard to find a bigger fan of Anders than me, but this adds so much to his character. I'm sure he'll still be in there and working out how to help him is going to be so fascinating. I really REALLY can't wait now. JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN GAME ALREADY!!!

I'm worried about this development, because I did really like Anders, and he was the only reason I was able to get through Awakening, but I'm willing to give the writers a chance.  It sounds like a very interesting plot twist, and while I wish it wasn't being done to a character I already like, if they can make it work, I will end up liking him more than ever.

The important thing to remember is that Anders isn't automatically evil because of this.  He is struggling to control the spirit, and even the fact that he is healing refugees when we meet him is a good sign.  Don't be too hasty about giving up on him before you've even got the full story.

I don't think you and I need to get into the "who is a bigger Anders fan" contest. :P
And I, too, am THRILLED
this sounds like it's going to be a fantastic plot hook, he's going to be a HUGE part of the story, and we may even have a quest to ultimately save him!

And I swear, angry!anders, chantry hate... it's like this is tailor made for me to write fanfic of it.

Because I so need another half million words of Anders fic.

I just get the notion that it's going to be a dragged out Connor Guerrin. Those types of characters tend to be more annoying than anything else.

Either way, I think conflicted/struggling Anders is going to be really utterly sexy interesting to witness. Though I have a feeling before we meet him in-game, he will have "grown-up" a tad. But really none of us can truly make a judgement yet on his character until we play the game...its going to be a nasty agonizing 28 days:crying:. Thank the maker I am taking that week off of work.

Maybe, but Connor was completely possessed by the Desire Demon.  Anders is not in the same situation, and as a more experienced mage, has more of a chance of surviving/conquering the Vengance spirit/demon.

I just hope that there is a chance of his story not ending as a tragedy...:?

Yes, but Connor was possessed by a demon, who was always a demon(particularly a demon of Desire), and not a previously virtuous spirit of Justice-turned-Vengeance. It was (apparently?) Anders' own anger towards the [Circle/Chantry/treament of mages/what-have-you] that drove Justice to demonhood, so I wonder if Anders would even be willing to just kill the demon and have done with it(if that's even possible)?

THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG LESS-THAN-A-MONTH. *wibble* T3T ..Actually, it might be more than a month, if I consider shipping times... *weeps*

Damn, I just realized that DA2 comes out on a Tuesday. I'm really busy with classes Tuesday and Thursday and leaving town either Thursday night or Friday morning to go to my cousin's baby shower which leaves only part of Wednesday to play it in the first week! SO not fair.
