Galagraphia, I LOVE your style. This is a beautiful picture :). Great capture of the smirk, I'm extremely impressed.

When I have more than two seconds to rub together I'm going to learn how to draw. It's embarrassing that my two year old can make more realistic pictures than I can!

This picture is really, really amazing. You are incredibly talented.

Um, screenshot. As close to a dismemberment as a mage can get, when you get a zap in just as Walking Bomb goes off. (Sidenote- I have killed Sigrun about five times with Walking Bomb. Oops):

 @Sandtigress, don't be jealous, you can write fanfics and I can't  ;)
Thank you, guys, for your kind words.
Now, back to Anders' awesomness: I like when he's angry.
Image IPB
Though it's not sexy anger like in Alistair's case. I mean not in the same way. When Ali makes this face I feel like: "*Gasp* That man can kill me! Woooow, sexy!" And when Anders is angry I feel like: "Awww, what's happened to my sunshine?"

I try to write fanfic, it doesn't mean I'm any good at it.  :P  You, however, can most definitely draw!

And yes, Anders angry is different than Alistair angry.  I don't think I made Anders angry very often with my Orlesian Warden....and my CEF is all set to flirt with him, since Alistair and she parted on not-so-nice terms....Sparks should fly (literally maybe) when I get my blood mage up to Awakening...

Upper right is REALLY angry. Like, talking about the treatment of mages angry.

Lower left is almost an "I'm very disappointed in you" expression. It makes you want to apologize and fix whatever it is you did or said to cause him to make that face.

Anders does not seem to say much about his past. We know he escaped from the tower 7 times, but he never said why he was so unhappy? We know he used to be a devout Andrastian, but what made him lose his faith? We also know (from his Bio) that he entered the tower at about 14. So where was he that he was able to escape the tower's notice for so long? I do believe reading in another post that saying to much would be spoilerish for the character. My hope is that they bring Anders back in either a DLC or the next expansion so we can learn more about him.

He was obviously unhappy because he was stolen away during a maturing part of his life and forced to live in a place he didn't like. I am personally glad the writers decided to make him look on the bright side in most situations, considering I would be absolutely bitter if I was forced into living in a place where I could be killed if I made one wrong move in front of Templars.
How he lost faith? Well I just examine myself, as I am agnostic. I used to be raised Catholic minorly through my young childhood, then I found out, whether it is truth or lie, that the church is not the path to enlightenment or into heaven if there is one. I'm sure he is still faithful to the religion and the Maker to a degree, but he hates the chantry.
I think he hid for so long because his parents were apostates and probably raised him to know magic and control it at a young age to be able to hide it like his parents might be able to, which would be useful in heading to town and buying supplies. I'll bet he practiced in secret and got caught

He was talking to Rylock and telling her that she can't have him back :D

I think I agree. I know teenagers must have freedom to run everywhere and make mistakes, and I'm actually surprised that Anders is so independent and self-reliant, I think teens in the Circles don't have much possibilities to rebel and don't really need to take care of themselves with all those tranquils and templars around. Anders probably was mature enough when they caught him.

And I agree about his faith. He doesn't seem like someone who completely lost it. He makes jokes about Andrase being hot and her knickers, but what he says next makes me think that he respects her.

I think he hid for so long because his parents were apostates and probably raised him to know magic and control it at a young age to be able to hide it like his parents might be able to, which would be useful in heading to town and buying supplies. I'll bet he practiced in secret and got caught

Hell, that's the biggest blank spot in his story! He never mentions his family, but I'm sure it existed, though I'm not sure they were apostates. Actually something tells me they weren't, though it's just my intuition.

I'm simply not sure Anders was "stolen away".  Anders does not strike me as being a person who was traumatized.  Being kidnapped would do this.  I also do not think Anders was raised by apostates.  He seems to have no fear of the Templars or the Chantry and is not really defiant of their authority.  Having to constantly hide from these two mighty forces would certainly instill fear and defiance in a child.  It seems to me that there was a personal tradgedy, maybe the loss of his parents, that removed their protection and required that he be sent to the tower at 14.

However, I do think that the tower may have had a lot to do with loss of
faith, but I think he's more like me in that respect.  Due to the forces of social pressure and small town politics I lost my faith
in the church, but never my faith in God.  I am now and forever will be a Christian who views organized religion as highly suspect.  I think Anders still has his
faith in the Maker and Andraste and always will; he's just walked away from the
Chantry, it's propoaganda and political agenda.

I also get the impression that he was raised by devout parents/parent who saw his magic as a gift from the maker.  Thus they would encourage him to embrace and develop his abilities and encourage him to embrace his faith as well.  This would explain his confidence as a mage,  his joy in using his talents, and his great compassion for those around him.  As stated before, I think they may have been in a position to train Anders in magic, but keep him from the tower.  A mage who was a kept and secret mistress of a powerful lord would certainly be in this unique position.  Her death would require that Anders be sent to the tower.  This seems to be be a more logical scenario to me, but I am a hopeless romantic.

I wonder if his hatred of Chantry doesn't stem from being taken from his parents?

14 is old enough to not to be traumatised in a the way a small child might be, but to understand as an adult might, what is happening. And to be extremely pissed off by it (excuse the langauge).

If he was raised to be a devout Andrastian and then faced the truth about what the Chantry in fact does with Mages - that could explain his loss of faith in Chantry but not Andraste.

Just my wonderings.

I still live in hope that one day we'll find out more but with DA2 coming that hope is fading....

To me it ceases to be romantic once they stop being a forbidden girlfriend/boyfriend and the m-word gets thrown around but YMMV.

Forbidden love is romantic, but romance isn't just about love. It's about realized ideals. The ideal or romantic scenario would be one of a loving parental relationship for Anders. The realistic or dark scenario would give Anders a much more sinister or harsh upbringing. I guess you could say that for me romance is a matter of hopeful perspective, truth, honor, compassion, mercy. Combine all of these into a character or characters that use these traits to overcome adversity and you have a romance.

Just commening on the 'mistress' idea.  I have a problem seeing the ending of Origins where the PC is the mistress of the king as romantic.  I also do not see Mistress as an ideal or romantic solution.  My PC's prefer to break it off at that point.

I do agree that the idea of Anders being raised in a loving home by a good parent(s) as a romantic ideal.  I think from his behaviour that this may be the case.  I hope it is.

Edited because I have a memory like a sieve...
