Well, HN was but...well, that ended badly. And being the one Endrin loved the most didn't seem to help the DN any. Rica is countered by the alcholic mother in the DC origin. The DE lost their parents violently but this was kept from them so maybe that counts?

You're too quick for me Sarah!  I edited that out because I started remembering them.  But you're right - most of the familial relationships end badly.

Yeah, the whole messed up family situation is why my distinctly non-maternal DN ends up back in Orzammar going '...Nephew! Finally, a family member that doesn't hate me or has played any part in trying to get me killed!' and latches onto him.

I agree. Being the mistress of the King is not a romantic ending. My current play through I will end up doing just that. However, the marriage to Anora for political reasons is also far from romantic either. However, if you complete Awakenings with Alistair married to Anora, the final card has you two disappearing together. This is very romantic. It is a chance for love (mostly unrequited) to be realized. After all the PC and her love have been trough over the two or three years or so the story arch takes, it is nice to have that "ride off into the sunset" moment even if it is only a few lines on an epilogue card.

I thought that was referring to leaving for the Calling together.

The time span implied is shorter than 20-30 years, though. I see it as a fairly obvious way to keep things open ended in an attempt to keep our hopes up for more DAO content so they can feed off of our disappointment when it doesn't happen in case the Warden's story is continued at some point.

That is absolutely gorgeous.  With all respect to other artists - this is my favourite Anders so far.  Just captures him perfectly for me :)

Thank you, that was actually a sketch. Here's the real Lord of the Smirk:

DA2 will tell us a story about 10 years long, so maybe we'll find out something about our warden's destiny? Since we import our savegames anyway.

About Anders: I can't imagine him in a castle living careless life as a child of love between a noble lord and a mage-lady. He seems commoner to me.
Curious thing about magic: in a new Dragon Age comic issue a girl named Gleam is a mage, she lives outside the Tower and practices in secret. She's very good in magic and her foster-parents don't mind that she uses magic and love her dispite all Chantry propaganda about magic being "a sin of pride" and pure evil. I think Anders' family could be like that one. Maybe they are even relatives, Anders and Gleam I meant, though it seems hardly possible, they must be of the same age. Although it's funny that she's a blonde with pony-tail and big fireballs too. :wizard:

This is a companion piece to Surely's "Oghren Approves". I call it "Nate approves..and so does that guard peering in from the back".

Wow, seeing this picture of him in the Tevinter style robes inspired me to change him out of the Chasind robes. He looks much more Executive Mage-y.

They are much more formal looking aren't they? Anders thanks you for the compliment:

He DID mention briefly that hottie templar that always fetched him when he managed to almost successfully flee from the circle... :)

Otherwise, Anders struck me as the type who wasn't very interested in speaking of his past or didn't think the PC was very interested. My best guess of how he was discovered or caught is in parallel to how the PC met him--set something on fire, turned around, saw a templar or other chantry adult and said, "Ah, I didn't do it."

Edited - I like this shot better.  I don't think our Anders is entirely comfortable with the fire spells ;-)

I like that he's not using his staff to cast - free hand casting is much more interesting ;-)

This is true.

His hands are my favorite part of his intro, actually. I love the hand shaking and how he doesn't know what to do with them when he realizes he's been caught.

Haha yes - I changed the screenshot to another one just after the fire spell.  I imagine him thinking "if an apprentice can do this, so can I!  Ouch, ouch, ouch"

Well you always have the option to non harden Alistair, make Anora queen (to his great relief), and then leave together to re-establish the Wardens.  That's fairly romantic, although then you have to wonder why he's not at Vigil's Keep with you.
But the most romantic possible ending is likely the one in which Alistair kills the archdemon and dies.  This doesn't require him to sleep with Morrigan (if that wouldn't kill a romance!) and also gives him the chance to tell you that he's sacrificing himself because of his love for you.
I say this because I find it inconsistent that people would say it's not romantic to end up as Alistair's mistress, but that making him sleep with Morrigan so you can keep him *is*.  I say this with no judgment, just recognition that any ending with both you AND Alistair alive and still in a romance requires some serious moral quandry.

And now back on topic. I <3 Anders and would have loved to have him in the original campaign. I have to thank this thread for alerting me to the fact that you can send him away on first meeting and get an additional cutscene with him on the roof. I had never considered not inviting him, but now I'm excited to see an extra conversation with him!

I have a hard dilemma now: I love when in the begining Anders proposes to give a last gulp of whiskey to a dying guy, Oghren supports and Mhairi becomes furious. And I love when he tells every person we meet there to get themselves to safety. But I also absolutely adore his unexpected appearance of the roof.  What shall I do? Ah, the choices are sooo difficult in this game!  <_<

That's what I do. Of course, I'm obsessive dialogue girl with certain companions, so I do a lot of playing around with scenarios. One of these days, I'm going to save instead of reload and it's going to hurt.

My poor PC's have been making a habit of killing the AD themselves lately.    I have my own reasons for not doing the DR which I won't go into here.   On one playthrough I got to the gates and realised I had no healer and no tank for that run to the AD (Morrigan gone, Wynne dead and Al left to guard the gate).  Lots of healing pots used on that one ;-)

Aw, yes, I have saves and even a few  videos (which I must resize and upload on youtube to show more Anders' awesomness to the world), but I must deside which way my warden will choose?  Probably will have to play with 2 wardens at the same time. One will be (again): "I love this mage, I wish I could marry him and have his babies!!! " and another one will be suspicious: "I don't trust this guy. What if he really killed those templars and will stab me in my back when I'm not expecting it?" I'm only waiting for a patch to start, but I will hate the patch if they fixed my "love" bug! :( How will my wardens live without Anders' love? :crying:

I've been playing Awakening these past few weeks, and I noticed that he and Nate have no select response once they hit Love. It makes me a sad panda. So, if they fix that, it might be worth the trade-off.

Or they could just patch in romances. That would work, too. :wizard:

What? Nate can fall in love with us too? In my playthrough it was only Anders. And Justice (Maker!!! ), but that was an unrequited love.
Aww, I wish they implemented romances, but it wasn't in patch description...:crying:
