Gah! It was truly, truly heartbreaking. I do just want to cuddle him. Someone on the other thread has suggested that the humour we know and love will turn much darker and snarkier now - I hope we get flashes of the light-heartedness as well.

I really dislike that story. It seemed set up more to set up shock and revulsion than angst.

@Sia I didn't get that from it. Or I did, but I think it's important, because that's what Anders is feeling by the end of it IYKWIM? It HAD to be particularly brutal, because when you think about it, Anders has already done a fair bit of killing by this stage - of darkspawn and humans alike - we never do know if he actually killed the Templars that were holding him at the beginning of Awakenings (although I'm beginning to suspect he may have) and anything less that the total slaughter that he perpetrates wouldn't have as much impact for HIM.

Anders could feel it, but I would have tried to make the reader feel more sympathy for him.

@Sia I wonder if they did that deliberately to turn off the preconceptions? I know there were a lot of "WOAH" posts straight afterwards. They did try to tell us it wasn't the Anders we remembered, but the story kind of slammed it home with an iron fist how much they actually MEANT that.



Of course, it didn't turn me off at all, but I'll freely admit I'm a bit strange.

The fact they have to dog on fans of a character simply because they don't like them, proves what kind of people they are. I've seen children more mature then that. Or they're just trolling for the lulz, in which case either ignore them or do what we did in the old Zev thread and give them baked goods.

There is one thing I don't like that has come out of all this, the inconsistencies of the templars. I could make a wall of text right now about that but Ill spare you.

I'm glad Miri admits to liking the story they gave so I'm not alone. I'm really, really looking forward to the game now. Well, I was before. But I am even more after reading that. It doesn't hurt knowing that Helper wrote him, since she did I think ALL the Orzammar plots- origins and treaty, which I thought were some of the most complex, enthralling parts of Origins.
I'm thinking we will see some awesome fic with him, too... Drama and grey morality give endless potential as far as that goes. (but then it's no secret that I'm no fan of HN/Ali fics and the whole princess thing, so it could just be my joy that Anders seems almost designed NOT to fit into some sort of 'I got you a rose' sugary romance speaking here).

The blood drinking flesh eating thing doesn't bug me, really. I mean, that IS vengeance right there. Uncontrollable blind rage, reveling in the destruction caused. If anything, I see it as heartbreaking more than gross since we all know Anders would loathe himself for it. His respect for life was always a major part of his character.

@Lupus absolutely. I keep thinking about that bit in Awakenings when he's horrified objectively about how many people Velanna has killed. He's the only one who seems genuinely sorry, not just for the people who were killed, but for VELANNA as well.

Sorry, late to the party, but this describes my general take on it as well.  However, I'm also blown away by how dark this may be going with Anders. Here I was, lamenting to myself that no one really looked very romantically interesting to my FemHawke - and then Anders is confirmed and Gaider wrote the Fenris romance. Dammit!  There's at least 2 playthroughs...

I'm still setting up a couple of later imports, but I'm wrapping Awakenings with my canon warden after doing everything I can to keep everyone in one piece. (Long story short, I restarted Awakenings after finding out about the Sigrun bug. That *really* annoyed me, since she's one of my favorite companions in the DA:O/DA:A series.
