Sia: I made it five years. Long enough that they might not have run in the same circles at the tower, and by the time the warden was old enough to be of interest or find him interesting he would have been dividing time between escapes and solitary. But not enough of a gap when they're 24 and 29 (maggie and anders' ages at the beginning of my fic) for age difference to be an issue.

Strangely, that's the gap I was aiming for, making Moira 23-24 in Awakening.  So, in one-shot time... if she and Jowan are 12, he's... 17 or 18.

Should give him enough time to convince them he's a good enough boy to be Harrowed.

When did we decide he hit the Tower, age wise?

According to the ficlet posted on the 15th, he was taken by the templars when he was 12ish.

So... why was a chronic escapee Harrowed and not Tranquiled? I

My personal interpretation was that a) he hadn't done anything actually dangerous - in Awakening Rylock seemed really, really keen on convicting him of murder so he'd swing; B) a good healer is probably a very valuable resource since healers are useful in peace as well as war - after all, people are always falling ill or getting injured even if there aren't any battles going on. He's a spirit healer. I imagine they didn't want to let him go.

My guess is that it was a combination of his abilities (good healers seem to be coveted) and the fact that he never hurt anyone on his forays into Ferelden (templars included). I've seen where people say that the Chantry leaps at the opportunity to make a mage Tranquil, but I've not see anything in the lore to support that. As far as I know, we only get the perspective of Jowan (who was definitely dabbling in blood magic) and that Tranquil whose journal is excerpted in the Codex, and he asked to be made Tranquil because magic frightened him. It's entirely possible that the Rite of Tranquility really is a last resort and, unless they could prove that Anders was using blood magic, they were willing to use more mainstream punishments for him.

I completely re-wrote my warden's past and made her bffs with Anders. So, when I learnt from the story that he was 12 when they took him to the Tower, I was: "YAAAAAY, they can totally be bffs now!!!" My witch was 10, Jowan and Anders were 12, boys were in one healing class with Finn, while the future hero of Ferelden was playing chess with Irving.

I think Anders' 1st escape happened when he was just an apprentice. I think Finn confirmed that. Maybe Anders went home to see his family, but then he was captured. I think Irving decided that he wasn't dangerous and could be forgiven for the first time.

Yup, Finn definitely confirmed he was still an apprentice when he made his first escape attempt. Watch it here.

I <3 Finn so much. He's so me.

@Tank, I don't think it's a huge spoiler, but just in case: we decided to try to avoid big DAII spoilers in this thread, because it scares some people away. Maybe you could change pictures into links? Someone may be uncomfortable with them.

Of course, I have no objection myself. I've enabled console in my demo and read the spoiler thread. )))

Ok, the DA2 Anders thread is RAMPANT with spoilers. Can I hide here and speculate and talk about Anders without knowing anything? Pretty please?

And I need you guys to help me be strong and not look at that sodding video. I'm getting the game in a week and a bit. I DON'T NEED TO SEE IT. I REALLY, REALLY DON'T!!

It's ok, everything will be ok, I've just posted a big anti-spoiler warning in the top.
I think the speculations in DAII threads have reached the point when even I can't stand them, they've became just boring. There're things I want to discover myself. There're things I love to speculate about, but don't really want to be confirmed. Answers kill the fun sometimes :)

There was a video? -shrug-
I'm being a good girl and avoiding almost every spoiler... unless we get particularly pretty pictures. I do love a pretty picture. I figure I just have a little more than a week and I want to be surprised so it'll all be...

Video? News to me. A good thing really because I don't want to see it. I'm hanging out here to avoid spoilers. Well the story-related kind anyway. Where Anders lives, as far as I'm concerned, is just a bit of neat information.

@Miri, I can't think of any clever way of saying "Delayed gratification is better" so I'll just say it like that. Join those of us who don't want to know! Join us sister. Join us in the shadows where we stand innocent. Join us in the safety which is ignorance. And should you fail, know that your knowledge will not be wanted. And that one day, we will join you.

@Miri, *blink, blink* My heart hurts. *hugs Macbook*

@dpMeggers, *nod* It is one magnificent mandible. Also, I'm currently researching hoodoo magics to make time go by faster.

@dpMeggers I have to wait until Thursday next week. *wibble* I'm taking refuge in housework. This house is going to be the cleanest it's ever been.

I haven't found anything hard and fast in the magical vein of things yet. I'm thinking naps is the way to go. Nap often my friends, nap away the hours. ;D

Actually, I've just been working on drawerings... that will steal hours from your life, hours.

I would looove to nap. I've reached that stage in sleep deprivation of dreaming EXTREMELY VIVIDLY, which is great when the dreams involve Anders but not so hot when they involve time-traveling fish trying to stop humanity from destroying themselves using a complicated combination of old ferries and gangplanks.

This is completely what I dreamt about last night.

I've been taking cold medicine, so my dreams have been that whacked out. I had a dream that my hair was poisonous... but only to redheaded people... because my hair is sort of red (dream logic wth??)... and it would turn their hair green and make them horribly ill before they became gnomes. Pointy hatted, white bearded, belted tunic gnomes.

I think we all just need to go find a nice quiet room with one of those white noise machines and get in a good solid sleep.

@Miri, that dream sounds like a mum thing. My mother once had a dream where she broke my English teacher's refrigerator door trying to save us from a pack of lions.

I'm terrified I may need to wait an extra day because of bilingualism. In Canada all video games (well everything really) needs to come with a French instruction manual as well as an English one (Two official languages: twice the grammar learning fun!). With some titles, this means the game is released a day later because it takes extra time to stuff all the extra manuals in the boxes. Now BioWare is based in Edmonton so they are probably prepared for this but still. Anticipation makes me nervous. And easily bored.
