Sia: I made it five years. Long enough that they might not have run in the same circles at the tower, and by the time the warden was old enough to be of interest or find him interesting he would have been dividing time between escapes and solitary. But not enough of a gap when they're 24 and 29 (maggie and anders' ages at the beginning of my fic) for age difference to be an issue.
Strangely, that's the gap I was aiming for, making Moira 23-24 in Awakening. So, in one-shot time... if she and Jowan are 12, he's... 17 or 18.
Should give him enough time to convince them he's a good enough boy to be Harrowed.
When did we decide he hit the Tower, age wise?

According to the ficlet posted on the 15th, he was taken by the templars when he was 12ish.

So... why was a chronic escapee Harrowed and not Tranquiled?
My personal interpretation was that a) he hadn't done anything actually dangerous - in Awakening Rylock seemed really, really keen on convicting him of murder so he'd swing;

My guess is that it was a combination of his abilities (good healers seem to be coveted) and the fact that he never hurt anyone on his forays into Ferelden (templars included). I've seen where people say that the Chantry leaps at the opportunity to make a mage Tranquil, but I've not see anything in the lore to support that. As far as I know, we only get the perspective of Jowan (who was definitely dabbling in blood magic) and that Tranquil whose journal is excerpted in the Codex, and he asked to be made Tranquil because magic frightened him. It's entirely possible that the Rite of Tranquility really is a last resort and, unless they could prove that Anders was using blood magic, they were willing to use more mainstream punishments for him.

I think Anders' 1st escape happened when he was just an apprentice. I think Finn confirmed that. Maybe Anders went home to see his family, but then he was captured. I think Irving decided that he wasn't dangerous and could be forgiven for the first time.

It's ok, everything will be ok, I've just posted a big anti-spoiler warning in the top.
I think the speculations in DAII threads have reached the point when even I can't stand them, they've became just boring. There're things I want to discover myself. There're things I love to speculate about, but don't really want to be confirmed. Answers kill the fun sometimes

I'm being a good girl and avoiding almost every spoiler... unless we get particularly pretty pictures. I do love a pretty picture. I figure I just have a little more than a week and I want to be surprised so it'll all be...

@Miri, I can't think of any clever way of saying "Delayed gratification is better" so I'll just say it like that. Join those of us who don't want to know! Join us sister. Join us in the shadows where we stand innocent. Join us in the safety which is ignorance. And should you fail, know that your knowledge will not be wanted. And that one day, we will join you.

@dpMeggers, *nod* It is one magnificent mandible. Also, I'm currently researching hoodoo magics to make time go by faster.

I'm terrified I may need to wait an extra day because of bilingualism. In Canada all video games (well everything really) needs to come with a French instruction manual as well as an English one (Two official languages: twice the grammar learning fun!). With some titles, this means the game is released a day later because it takes extra time to stuff all the extra manuals in the boxes. Now BioWare is based in Edmonton so they are probably prepared for this but still. Anticipation makes me nervous. And easily bored.
