I think my whole thing with kids and violent video games actually stems from when I was a kid. I'd play violent video games myself, sometimes over the internet where some people... aren't so nice Posted Image I got desensitised to violence. Only realised it recently though, when I was playing through Orzammar just before the Broodmother and wondered why I wasn't just a little disturbed at the fact my charrie was covered in blood, walking across a floor that had flesh-like growths reaching up from who-knows-where, and she'd slaughtered possibly hundreds of humaniod creatures to get there...

But, you know, its their lives. I don't want to interfere and say what's wrong or right. I dunno if playing violent games actually makes a difference, or anything like that. I'm not a psychologist, this is just my own self. And everyone's different. Posted Image  Which is awesome because otherwise life would be utterly dull and we wouldn't have any well-written and interesting characters because everyone would be the same.

So, uh... yeah. Posted Image

I think there's a very real difference between game violence and film violence. Game violence doesn't bother me much, film bothers me a HELL of a lot. And there's also a difference between battle violence and violence for pleasure - the Saw movies for example are violence-as-porn and I absolutely detest them. I also have difficulty watching the news sometimes for the same reason. It's real violence.

I think from a very young age kids can distinguish between the real and the imaginary - people who are affected by game violence are probably already on the slippery slope to psycho-ness in any case.

BUT Anders is not a violent man! He's a lover!

I remember somewhere on our russian forum a woman told us how she saw her kid playing GTA and told him he wasn't supposed to do it because of his age. And the boy said: "Relax, mom, it's just a game!" And she realized it was ok because her son knew the difference.

Back to DAO: I didn't see there anything inappropriate for children. Gore looks more funny than scary, love scenes without mods look awkward not sexy. The only danger is when people are taking too close to hearts what's happening in that game. I've seen people discussing their choices madly, offending each other and stuff. Obviously they didn't realize it was just a game  (yeah, says the crazy fan-girl who doesn't sleep at nights because she hears the Archdemon's call to draw Anders' fan-arts :P)

Oh, and a picture of jealous Anders :P:

Yes, there are a few Loghain/Alistair threads that make me doubt the sanity of some players :).

Its time for one of my off the wall theories that gets shot down in flames soon after I post it ;-)

I just finished the Stone Prisoner DLC and while talking to Matthias I had a sudden thought (yes it hurt).

If we accept that Anders isn't just some random mage who happens to be handy in Awakenings and that he has some lore connection to the DA world what if he's Wilhelm's son?

Wilhelm is in the Stolen Throne isn't he?  How long before the game is that set?  He'd have to have time after the end of the occupation to set up in Honleath and have Matthias (is Matthais mentioned in the book?).  Then he'd have to start his experiments on Shale and with the demons.

Shale thinks she was in the square for 30 years.  How accurate is that do we know?

Then there's the small matter of 'son' in the singular in the letter from First Enchanter Arlen.

But...if Wilhelm and his wife were hiding Anders from the Circle that would make sense wouldn't it.

I'm sure there's huge holes in my latest flight of fancy - feel free to tear it to bits.

(It is of course entirely possible that I'm basing this whole theory on the resemblance between Matthias and Anders and the tiny little detail that they have the same VO ;-) )

(You like how I argue against my own theory?)  I know I shouldn't posit theories without knowing much about the lore but this one got me all excited.

I searched the forums and couldn't find it having been asked before so I though it worth putting out there.  I can only cause myself great pain and humliation after all!

Ok, so how long does it take to read this entire thread, from page 1 to 47? almost 5 hours o.O

I know, cos I've just done it. Started at around 4am, and now it's .. 08:44. That's like, 10 pages an hour, 6m to read each page. There are some long posts here ;)

Having said that, I loved all of it - such a great thread and the art work by Galagraphia is just .. awesome! wow .. just .. wow. Gorgeous... (sorry, that covers all the pics, so maybe a little too much gush for one post but spread out over 47 pages isn't so much).

I was going to post the answer to the horse noise question (page 34/35ish) (knew it as soon as the first person asked what it was, being a 'horsey type lass' myself) but someone finally got there :) Nickers, or could also be 'whickers'. It's the nicest noise in the world, too :)

Sorry, I've no Anders pic to upload. The one I found on Deviant Art, and thought I'd post has been up a few times, now (the one by SmaiLika07). But please, keep the thread going :) It's great fun :)

Newbie Anders fan ;)

WOOT welcome Tindl.

As to the Anders/Willhelm theory - I was very much thinking the same thing until I found out how old Anders would have to be in order to be his son. I really don't think Anders is over thirty in Awakenings (although he could be thirty). I do think he's older than the PC, and he MUST have coincided with the mage PC at the Tower for a little while because he says he remembers you, and I doubt he'd remember any apprentices who were more than four or five years younger than him. So...

Still, it is hilarious that in the Shale DLC Anders does both Felix AND Matthais. It's like they grabbed Greg Ellis and said, "can you do this voice... oh b*gger we forgot to cast this one as well!"

One of my past times when I play is to try to spot Greg Ellis VO's.  Not in a creepy way (I hope) but I love this voice.  Felix is one of my favourites.  I also like Levi Dryden (who I think is him too?).  I do all the dialogue options every time.

Hmm, perhaps I need a hobby?

Ok, you like Anders even more than I do. :)

Completely random, but I really do hope we'll see him again, in whichever form the BW gods would like. I just feel like repeating that from time to time in every forum I'm registered, in the hopes that someone out there is watching, lol.

Also, I had no idea Ellis did Felix and Matthais, too. You girls are good.

I read somewhere in DA2 forums that it was very difficult to find actors with british accents in US. I think they were lucky that actors like Steve Valentine and Greg Ellis lived there. So they just hired Greg because he can voice a lot of people and make them sound different. Like Cullen and Anders and that Ash warrior who tells the dwarven legend. Though Taoran sounded like Anders and I always felt bad about killing him, but he was an ass.

What makes me giggle is that a mage apprentice in Magi origin who sets himself on fire is also voiced by Greg Ellis and when he asks how bad do his eyebrows look that sounds totally like something Anders would've said in such situation.  Of course Anders would never burned himself like that, but still it's funny. =]

Ah, is that why they have Claudia Black as well? I wondered why she was getting so much game work considering. She moved to the US when she was doing Stargate.

I'm looking forward to the next Pirates movie, actually. I keep meaning to get the first one out again so I can see the Greg Ellis bits but I never get around to it.

He wrote in his facebook that he has a bigger role there. I was kind of disappointed by the 2nd pirates and skipped the 3rd to the moment with Greg  to make screenshots for gifs. But if he will be in the 4th and with a big role, I will have to force myself to watch the 3rd movie to understand what's happened there.

To be honest, I wouldn't bother. It was a bit of fun, but not a patch on the first one. The second one certainly pulled the whole franchise down. And I don't think the story in the third movie is going to affect the story in the fourth one much - if at all!

Miri, I see. Thanks for confirmation that the movie doesn't worth my attention (But Greg Ellis was funny there anyway)

Now I'm gonna up the thread with fantastic sweetfoxy7's art:

I love this.

I was excited when I thought of Wilhem as Anders' father, but the age doesn't work for me. And then I thought "Wow, if we were to ever encounter Shale again, with Anders' sense of humor and the fact that he might look like Wilhelm, his head would be so crushed. Even if she was in Dwarf form."

Ugh, I hate the idea of Anders being Wilhelm's son. I hate Wilhelm because he was ugly slimy scavenger who liked to show off his power and enslaved poor Shale. And I don't want Anders to have anything to do with that guy. It's just impossible to me!

Hey there Tindl! Yeah, it does take ages to read this thread. I may have to read it all over again to keep me up tonight - I need something to stop me sleeping, this will help! Posted Image

I actually have a character who's nearly finished Lothering, so once I've done that I'll go and play Stone Prisoner DLC, see if I can verify anything for you. We'll have to see if there's any way it could be possible.

Also, can we make a list of all the DA characters Greg Ellis has voiced? I knew about Cullen and Anders, but not about any of the others. Posted Image Seems he's done a lot. *Of course I could just wander over to IMDB...* And which charrie is he in POTC? I've seen the first two but I don't remember seeing him in them... maybe that's because I watched them years before I even knew who he was... XD

And yes, more Anders stuff please Bioware! Posted Image
