Are you forgetting Ander's quick tryst banter with Oghern Sarah?

I rather assumed he wasn't serious and my question was.

I'd say its because they're lightweight and easy to move in. They can also hide/have pockets that make it easier to access certain things during battle.

And mages are badass. If you are beyond the Chanty's control, why not rock the I'm A Mage sign? Free intimidation.

I generally found those bickerings in Awakening are ten times more interesting than in Origins.

I generally found the companions in Awakening more interesting than those in Origins. Not that I don't like all the companions, because I do, they all are nice and very well written. It's just that in my opinion Anders & Co. are far more awesome than Alistair & Co.

I ador all my Awakening companions! While in Origin.....I only love a few and feel okay about the rest.

Why do mages wear robes anyway instead of regular clothes? Aside from advertising the fact that they're a mage is there really any point?

I think in "Stolen Throne" there were a few words about that. That it was exactly the sign: "WARNING: this guy is a mage! Don't you even try to ****** him off and send your kids to fetch a dozen of templars just in case". Well, um, David Gaider somehow managed to make is shorter, like this: "If men scrambled to get out of his way, it was because of the bright robes marking him as a ranking Enchanter of the Circle of Magi".

Have I mentioned that I love the simple mages robes? I wish they had them in Dragon Age, I actually miss them from Oblivion.

They are just easier to draw. I've changed a graphic style a bit for my Cullen comic, because while I was making Anders-comic the most part of my time was eaten by his tevinter robes. And the second reason was that I was reading a book about real templars and was taken by its illustrations. Besides simple robes do not need to wear smallclothes beneath them, that was suitable to Anders' banter with Oghren and I could imagine his robes-adventures back in the Tower. :)

I love that medieval style Templar armour.  I'm sure there's a reason why fantasy games seem to like to use that big shoulder pad look.

Would be nice to see something a little more 'authentically' medieval.  Oh well have to settle for your comic Gala ;-)

I wonder why they wear robes too.  In DA I can understand it in the tower - its like a uniform.  But after that - seems odd.

From a game perspective - its probably just tradition that if you have the mage class you must code them various forms of crappy looking robes to wear.  I will say that the DA ones are among the best I've seen however.

On the robes, my theory is that they were common at the time the circle was established for everyone, not just mages. Since the circle is so isolated fashion changes slower. Like how nuns and monks in some cloistered orders even today still wear clothing reminicent of hundreds of years ago.

As for staying with them once out it's probably both comfort and familarity, as well as how much easier it is to find suitably enchanted robes that match their skills.

Oh. My. God. The art in this thread is killing me.

Though he looks a bit more young than we know him, in my opinion. Is it possible that the cat in questions is Mr. Wiggums?

No he's not, or our beloved Ser Mage would wear something different. :P

It was one of my earlier work. I haven't master the essence of Anders quite nicely yet. So he looked a bit young on that one. I am a lot better now.^_^

This one is ... words cannot express how hot it is. Sweetfoxy captures the sex appeal really, really well. Of course, it could be because her pictures usually give us a yummy glimpse of Anders flesh... but still.

I can spend hours on her dA gallery, just drooling over her pencil sketches of our favourite Ser Mage.

Back to robes question, this robe reminds me of military jackets. And Anders is like a captain in it. Want to give him a service cap  and salute, he looks so official in it. And it suits him

I call those Executive Mage robes. I like Barbarian Mage, but Executive Mage has its appeal.

Mmm. There was a modern clothing challenge on dev art a while back. I'd looove to see Anders in a suit.
