What has happened to game forums these days, being a little older than some at 42 i remember the old forums when you could have a laugh and people helped each other,if an idiot turned up he found himself unwanted because the majority didnt want those kind of people around, but ive noticed over the last few years a SHARP decline in nice people infact it seems to have gone full circle to the point that the good friendley people are out numbered buy big mouthed nasty A£%holes throwing there virtual forum might around.

If you look at virtually any post you will see swathes of people calling the poster everything and anything, and shoving there opinions down the throats of anyone who dares to disagree.Ive been looking for days now to find a post where people are laughing and joking so i could join in some witty banter, but alas i havent found one that hasnt been plagued by forum bullies, the odd thing is i never meet these big tuff loud mouths in RL why ??,do all these 6"5 muscleheads that roam the net suddenley shrink into meek and feable wimps when they walk away from the keyboard,it would seem so.

So im sending out a call to all the old school friendley people who want to be boring and play nice ,have a laugh and yes say something helpfull and friendly, and to those others just for a little while how about being the real YOU the nice little boy/girl that mummy loves, the decent hard working dad/wife that his wife/husband would say, would do anything for anyone lets have a few days off our big tuff virtual selves and keep it real so to speak :).

I have started a group that people in here maybe interested in,its invite only so please ask to join and ill try to accept you ASAP thanks :)

Rather normal progression for a hyped up game. The malcontents will wander away in a few weeks and we can go back to enjoying the forums.

because 80% of the gaming community is between the ages of 15 to 25. And we all know how 15 to 20 year olds act.

I have played all those games and admit in general LOTR IS one of the better forums.

Hey, Madpaddy, I'm 42 as well, and I have to agree with you 110%.

I haven't been able to play DA:O yet, so I've been torturing myself by cruising these forums for the past two weeks and with precious few exceptions, I'd say that in general the quality of how posters treat each other has really gone down hill.

A NOTE TO YOU YOUNGSTERS Image IPB:
Replying to a post that insults someone with your own insults in no way makes you any better than that person - in fact, I'd argue less so, because YOU have the choice to not react in such a manner.

My 2¢...

That is the populace you attract with "This is the new ****" Trailers. House made problem. Just saying.

I'm just hoping that the extreme negativity fades out soon, hopefully they'll go elsewhere or something.

This place was very nice before Launch.

It's the usual progression for a released game.

People see the commercials, form preconceived notions about what it's going to be like, buy the game, and are then upset because the game doesn't match their expectations.

It doesn't matter that the game has always been advertised as Single-Player, it doesn't matter that nowhere did BioWare mention Warden's Keep being part of the original game, nor does it matter the same people who decry DA:O for having a poor combat system are also the same people who won't take the time to learn it (or are so used to another - like WoW's - that it creates the same effect).

They get frustrated because the game is somehow not vacuum-formed to their desires. They get angry because their demands are not met immediately (disregarding the fact that most of the time the demands are ludicrous in the first place). Then, when they are met with nothing but the truth or bile, they get upset because somehow people are "misunderstanding" their desire.

In a month, after the short-sighted complainers have finished one play-through and move onto the next annual offering of the latest graphics packaged into the latest game, the forums will quiet down.

A little while after that, the old community will resurface - having spent the time playing the game several times to gain the fullest effect, discussing user-created mods and adventures, and eagerly awaiting BioWare's next release.

It's the same every time. The frustrated ones burn hot and leave quick, usually too disappointed to realize it's their own ignorance (most of the time) that stops them from enjoying the game, and the ones who love the game are too busy playing it to really care about the forums.

You've got a point, Teron. I was quite suprised EA marketing chose a theme song such as that.

Hi

Wow 42!

I wish I was 42 again. I'm 71.

I too remember when forums were like a family.

The original Tomb Raider forums were great.

Everyone told jokes posted pictures of their dogs, and were cordial to each other.

I used to write and post Tomb Raider crossword puzzles which the other posters would do and discuss.

One of the members from Texas started a long distance relationship with a young woman in Sweden and they ended up getting married.

I had friends in Australia and Britain.

It just isn't the same any more. When ever you post someone jumps on what ever you said with some kind of negative comment. And no one has a sense of humor!

I am playing Aion, right now and it isn't anything like the old days.

Mike

I blame World of Warcraft with all the negativity about a game like this.

Nah, it's easy.

People see the commercials and buy the game without doing any research.

Then they get cheesed off because whatever revolutionary game is being advertised (which they won't spend the time to learn the systems adequately) is different from games X,Y,Z (which they wish developers would just stop cloning already).

Then they feel the need to post about it here, because attention is equivalent to love and they want to feel validated in their anger.

If you want to see truly awful forums, look no further than World of Warcraft. Those people are beyond immature, beyond awful. They can't even spell or complete full sentences. Unreal.

Eh, it's just young dudes who want to flash how awesome and "pro" they are by bragging about "facerolling" the game on Nightmare. Forum communities need to take responsibility for themselves. Create more fun topics, and post in them. Ignore flamebait and braggarts. It's not that hard.

It seems like the Groups discussions are more interesting and you'll see some more useful and serious discussion......I wonder if they created a forum for "gripes and lovers" if they couldn't slice off about half the activity.
