The number of unpleasant people on the forums is starting to put me off even playing the game itself.
Me, too. It's sad, too, because I get all excited about the game and then come here and just see people slamming each other, outdoing each other with whatever, and very little game play. I expect that on /b/, but not on a game board. It's dragging down my fun with the game when I come here and see how everyone's treating it.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the game's fans being any better than the ones they call trolls. Plenty of stuff being tossed around by everyone. I hope things calm down without becoming just a mutual admiration society, though. No point in that, either.

Eh, it's just young dudes who want to flash how awesome and "pro" they are by bragging about "facerolling" the game on Nightmare. Forum communities need to take responsibility for themselves. Create more fun topics, and post in them. Ignore flamebait and braggarts. It's not that hard.
I will admit around the fifth time I got accused of cheating, because I wasn't wiping on every fight, I started taking perverse pleasure in rubbing it in their faces. There's no reasoning with some of these people.

It's whatever to me. There are only a few forums on the internet which are completely nice.

It's entertaining really. I'm surprised at the amount of people that feed the trolls, they're just as hilariously bad.

I am happy to see how civilized the people in this thread are. Makes me glad and restores my hope in Mankind. It is good to see that there are people around who still know what a BBS was. And with my 33 years I can feel like a youngone around here. Thanks for that! ;-)

trust me this isnt as bad as WoW's forums. EQ2 and LOTR has great forums.
I agree, LOTRO has a great community, however I find the Codemasters (LOTRO EU) to be better.
I also played PoxNora for a few years and the forums got progressively worse up to the point that now it's just a slander fest. Very disappointing.
Hopefully these forums will get better with time.

hypothetically...when you reach 42...your general persona changes ?.
Nah, you just lose some of the venom of youth. Having a family to support, a deadline to meet, and bills to pay saps too much energy to even want to rant on a forum, at least in my opinion. Took me years to learn, but a positive attitude is a healthy attitude.
I thought it was just maturity and gaining the wisdom to put things in perspective...

I'm 19 and I agree completely with you. This is one of the few threads I visit reguarly because the rest of the general selection is flooded with personal holy-wars against Bioware, ranting and trolling. I am not going to some other parts of the forums, since I am vaiting patiently for my game(ordered from UK, live in Norway) so I can't tell wether is bettor or worse in those sectors.
Seems like I am the youngster here, though
Well, my youngest son has six years on you...

Forty three? Why you young whippersnapper...
Turned 61 in Oct and I fully agree with the OP about the negative nastiness taking taking over the forums.
I am also hopeful that others who have suggested that things will calm down after the first few months are correct altho I doubt it will ever be as freindly and helpful as it was in the days of the old BG forums. The nastiness certainly hung on in the NWN2 forums for a very long time and much still hangs on there today - perhaps becuase it has been allowed.
We see the same thing in other sections of RL today - whether that be the workplace, the highways, or especially in the political arena where the theme of the day appears to be just how much vitriol laced rhetoric can be spewed rather than any attempt to find common ground with our fellow man and move forward.
For those of you with less years under belt - know this - it was not always so.

So I still have the record of being yonges? Why, thank you kind sir!
And to the nice people in this thread: Do this game resemble the "grey" characters and events in George R. R. Martin's books(A Song of Ice and Fire)? Please if you have read those books and played the game, don't reveal any spoilers, as I'm still awaiting patiently for my game.
Going to watch "The Elephant Man" now, so I'll be back in 2 hours. See you then

I agree that all game forums seem to get like this just after release.. the sheer amount of venom and bile that some people seem to feel when a game doesn't work how they want or, God forbid, they find a bug.. I've never understood it, if I find out I've spent £30 on something I don't like I just move on, spending hours of my life ranting about it just doesn't appeal for some reason.
The best game forum I know is the Egosoft one for their X games; people there seem to be able to simply acknowledge and work around problems, rather than turning it into a personal holy war.
