In Orlais, bards travel throughout the courts of the land, trading entertainment for the hospitality of the aristocracy while simultaneously plying a more sinister trade: Often, they are secretly spies or assassins.  Leliana, however, speaks little of her history as a bard, having left her life in Orlais behind long ago.  She came to the village of Lothering seeking refuge in the Chantry, where she has assumed a life of quiet contemplation and prayer to the Maker, asking Him to forgive a life of deeds that her fellow sisters can only guess at.  But although it is the last path that Leliana would ever choose for herself, she believes that the time will soon come to take up that old life once again.  A higher calling awaits her, and with it a road to true redemption.  The Maker has told her this, and she believes...

Things to Note:

The Leliana Appreciation thread is for appreciating Leliana, and also serves as a place for lively debate over Leliana's story line and plot points in Dragon Age: Origins.  In gereal, discussion about DA2 is discouraged and should be kept to the DA2 subforum.

Also, when quoting a post with a picture, try to remember to delete the image from your post. Too many repeats slow down the thread and are a strain on the BW servers.

As you can see, we appreciate Leli in all her forms...  however one chooses to mod her she still has the same personality....  all are welcomed here!Posted Image

I've played Leliana with every PC I've built in the game so far.  I find her charming, sweet, naive and worldly at the same time, deadly with daggers and arrows, pious and bawdy, witty,   She's great in a party, even if I am a rogue as I usually spec her for Ranged and some melee when needed.  I think there is more to her than we see.

Unfortunately I don't have many screen shots of her but, I will soon.  Meanwhile if you are visiting.. please share.
How do you play her?  What do you like most?  We can be open-minded and even discuss what we dislike.. but, it is appreciation and I imagine Leliana can laugh at herself as wellPosted Image

PS..  thanks to the Leli fans for helpind develop this 1st page and it's signature..  you know who you arePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

I really like Leliana too and I think she is an awesome character. I know that a lot of people think that her naive girlish sides are annoying, but in my mind, that is really just her mental armor, like Zevran's flirting and joking to hide the pain behind it.

She is also one of the few really selfless characters. She always wants the person she loves to be happy, even if that means that she herself is out of the picture.

Like with Alistair it's a little hard for me to choose between hardening her or not. I think that hardening Leliana in some ways are better for her, but at the same time I know I want to say the things to her that makes her unhardened.

It's a tough choice really. I think that staying in the chantry is not healthy for her, she is just hiding herself there. But neither is convincing her to go back to being a seductress/spy for hire really healthy in the long run either I think. Both can really damage her soul.

She is a great character!

I have a hard time doing anything but making a female warden just to have a lesbian romance with Leliana.

I've never seen anything in the game that suggests she wants to go back to her old life as a Bard in Orlais, it seemed pretty clear to me that she just wanted to go see the world and have adventures as they come.

She's a great character.

A loyal friend who is always there to offer advice and lighten the mood.

After Morrigan she is my second favorite love interest.

In one of the conversations she accepts that there is bad in this world and good... and life cannot be lived with rose colored glasses, you need to see things clearly and make choices with the heart.

I also love the conversation where she compares life's scars to the complexity of a painting.

She is naive and girlish sometimes, but not when it matters. She is not totally unlike Zevran in that respect. Both have a flighty exterior, but once you gain their trust, they can always be depended upon and have a hidden depth that some people miss, because they only see the first impression.

I don't visit here much, was here to see if anyone disliked Darkspawn Chronicles as much as I did, but noticed this thread and decided to post.

Leliana has got to be one of my favorite NPCs in any Bioware game. It's rare to find a character that holds onto their faith as a large part of their life, and as someone who does the same I felt a connection with her that just isn't there with any other.

She's sweet and outgoing. She's kind and thoughtful. Deadly with two blades or a bow. She's a pretty young woman; though she could do with seeing a healer about her spintone. It could be liver problems. >.>

Is it just me or is it impossible NOT to romance her? I either start her romance by flirting with her or let her ninja me. :D

In my last playthrough I tried to stay away from her but then I clicked on her at some point and she started singing... BAM...

The few times I didn't romance her was playthroughs specifically devoted to other romances.

I like Leliana (but then I like all the companions).  I think she's pretty and sweet (I'm a sucker for redheads) and its not her physical appearance, I mean its the personality they have written for her.  She can be a little bland but thats part of her charm I think.  She is more interesting if you harden her (IMO).
Its rare to find a character with faith that remains the cornerstone of her personality.  She isn't just playing another role she really has faith in what she believes and I always admired people who could do that, not just pay lip service but truly believe in it.
Not vanilla Leli but i have been using this version for a while now and she's become Leliana for me. (and its one of the few facial mods my daughter and I both agree on).

I like Lel a lot. She'll never replace Imoen in my heart (Imoen! Call me!), but she's a beautifully well written companion. She's much more complex than she appears on the surface; she has been down a dark path, and she's seeking redemption. At the same time, there's a part of her that misses her time in darkness. Her faith is more complex than it seems as well. She wants to be a person of faith, she reaches for it, she tries to live by it, but she has doubts. She's trying to convince herself of what she wants to be, and of what she wants to believe. Lel now is trying so hard to be what she thinks of as a good person. Just a wonderful character.

Giggles, this has nothing to do with this thread, but every time I see your signature I recall the banter between Morrigan and Leliana...in which it is made abundantly clear that actually, *everybody* hears Morrigan screaming from your tent.

Um, also, Leliana is nice. I actually like the fact that she reformed her life and is so dedicated to her new choices. It's a refreshing change from the many tormented-fallen-soul characters out there.

I like Leli too. (I'm one of those rare people that like all 4 of the romances...but my fave is Zev) as for hardening her it all depends on the character I'm playing. as a person in rl that has a faith I believe in it probably goes in to how I play the game. Most of my dalish elves have a deep resentment for the Chantry itself, but come to like Leli as a person and would hate it if someone was trying to stop them for believing in her gods. so they don't usually harden her using the line I like best "evil people don't worry about not being good." I don't usually harden her at all actually, but sometimes my characters have minds of their own. lol

Leliana so far has been a staple in my parties for her lockpicking, and it's nice that she specializes in archery, which keeps her out of melee range.

I also like her personality. I once tried to have a character romance Morrigan, but the more I got to know Leliana, I had my character make the switch. I just like how Leliana enjoys being on the adventure and doesn't want it to stop. Morrigan is all about power, and my characters usually get disapproval hits often, unless she is left at camp.

After the archdemon was slain, my templar worked to rebuild the wardens while Alistair was busy being king, and Leliana was there by his side. I also wouldn't have minded having them disappear into the sunset together on horseback or something.

They do in Awakening it went like: and the irresponsible Warden commander went and found his GF leliana and than ran away giggling into the sunset!" not complaining but seriously not what I had in mind. In short this is all I have to say about Awakening to Bioware:

I always have Leliana. Even though my PC is a rogue, I focus on DPS so I need another rogue to pick my locks in the beginning (later on my PC has a high enough cunning to pick most on his.her own). From a combat standpoint, she's a little weak at first but once you start getting those archery talents and stealth (and marjoline's bow), she starts to be pretty useful. I use her a mage sniper where I send her in alone in stealth and she KO's a mage with AoS.

As for a character, I do find her charming and adorable. Her giggles when you select her are cute. I do have some issues with her seductress assassin past but whatever, she's trying to change I guess. And her party dialog with some (like with Morrigan) she is too preachy. But overall she's a keeper.

I didn't like it either. Awakening forces your character into a path he/she didn't choose.

In DAO my PC and Leliana decided to stay in Denerim. Why would they start adventuring again? tsk tsk
