It all sounds so easier than it actually is... 

Hmmm... If you would create a whip in 3Ds max or something and would implent it into a cutscene (I don't know if the model would have to be in the game itself as a item) that plays when you are "doing it" with Leliana (and create the perfect cutscenes)... Yeah, sounds pretty much possible. But a little complicated, I guess.

Well, this thread still pales when compared to the Alistair thread in terms of naughtiness and threading "dangerous territories".

In fact, I think it's until I came here that things started getting out of control... I'll try to be good from now on. :innocent:

I just can't play Origins unless it's with her. I like to imagine in my Dalish playthrough that she has pointy ears.

All my PCs are very deeply roleplayed, or based off a real/fictional person. I really like seeing how the world is different based off of each new PC that goes into it.



Like my most current Warden who is a bloodmage, but not in the evil sense, more in the vein of the Xmen sense. She was a natural blood mage, and terrified about it, since she is also a Devout Chantry person.

Actually, the only thing that's the same across playthroughs is her looks. Her personality is different in each "incarnation" and I always end up making different decisions depending on her origin.



It's a weird quirk of mine where I need to see her face in the game, otherwise I'll feel totally disconnected and awkward.



Oh, the other constant in those games is the Leli romance, but I try to give it a different spin in terms of what lead to her falling for Leli each time.

So speculation, why do you guys think Leliana fell in love with Marjolaine in the first place?

Vulnerability and Innocence.



My take is that she had never loved anyone before. Perhaps she hadn't even had any close friends. Marjolaine made her feel special since Leli was a useful asset for her. Leli was young and stupid, the "game" was fun, and this attractive, powerful woman was having a go at her. She couldn't help but fall for her.

I think one of Leliana's greatest strengths (and weaknesses) as a character is that when presented with something she instinctually looks for the good and the beauty within it. While we might look at Marjolaine and focus on her capacity for egocentricity and callousness, Leliana focuses on her intelligence, wisdom, beauty, love of music, attentiveness, etc. I imagine she also found it exhilarating to be with someone more experienced and dangerous who could show her the world.



Marjolaine definitely took advantage of her vulnerability and innocence, for sure, but I like to think that Marjolaine loved Leliana too (well as much as possible for someone like her) and actually did think that she was special (cause let's face it, she really is). However, ultimately, Marjolaine lived in a reality where her own survival had to come before everything else, like Morrigan in some ways. Leliana by nature isn't like that, which is a big reason why being a bard is not good for her.

If we go by the ending of "Leliana's Song", it may indeed be possible that Marjolaine loved Leliana. She does say at one point that it caused her no joy to betray her, and does with a rather sad face.

Whether she's being honest or no, I don't know. I suppose it's possible that Marjolaine at least did care for her in a way.

Still, I'm a bit incapable of seeing anything good in Marjolaine.

What you say about Leli focusing on the positives of Marjolaine (her talents, intelligence, love for music, etc.), that's very true. The woman was indeed remarkable in her own twisted way and Leli allowed this to cloud her judgement of who she was dealing with.

I think it makes the story and the betrayal much more tragic if one assumes that she did truly care for Leliana. The way Leliana talks about their good times together, and the nostalgia she expresses for that makes me think that there was a real connection between the two of them. After everything that transpired and with the benefit of hindsight, I have a hard time believing she'd still feel that way if the relationship was totally one-sided. EDIT: At least by the end of their time together, Leliana had become a master of the game herself. So when reflecting back on their relationship during the time of Origins, I'd think she'd be able to make a better judgment about it.

Still doesn't change the fact that Marjolaine is deeply flawed, paranoid and obsessive though. She and Howe will always be the characters I love to hate in the game.
