i think it was the same case for me(the dead warden, that is, not the Wrong transfer thing).

i'm sure she Said "Was", but then again i haven't played the game in Months.

So I have a quick question/poll/inquiry for the Leliana thread: I'm working (with various others) on a project here on the BSN called 'Minstrels of Thedas', and our object is to create original musical compositions based on characters/events/lore etc in Dragon Age: Origins.  As Leliana is a bard, I've always thought it sad that there wasn't more fan-based music created for her, and we'd like to rectify that situation.
So I have a question for you, since you are all ardent supporters of our favorite Orlesian bard: in the song that we are currently working on for Leliana, the lyrics refer to the Warden in a gender-specific manner (i.e., him/her) as the Love Interest.  What are your opinions regarding what gender the Warden (as lover to Leliana) should be referred to in recording this piece?
Note that this isn't to create 'canon' or anything, I just would like your opinions & comments regarding this issue.  In the long run as time provides, it would be neat to have both versions available, but for the initial release I'd like to concentrate on a single gender/version.

Any input on this would be welcome.  Thank you all!

Well, for starters, i'm not exactly into ballads.

just not my thing.

but i do like a few, from both Men and Women, and they always refer to the opposite gender, or don't refer to any gender at all.

i get that probably none of those people are like Leli(that is to say, doesn't care about the gender), but(and believe me when i say that i am NO Musician) i think it should simply be the one that fits the most into the song.

a Word can really hurt a song, depends on the rhythm, and if the song says "he", but "She" fits the most, then "She" should be there(or vice versa).

of course i don't know the lyrics, so i'm completely blinded.

It really shouldn't worry you too much, it's not like this is going to be an official canon for the writers or something, just something you thought would be nice, so don't feel too much preasure, and if you can, you can make another one with the other gender(like you yourself said)

just my two cents, i try not to be bias(i'm a dude)

EDIT: What is the gender for the one with Zevran? cause if you don't want to put that much thought, just be fair and put Leliana with the gender he wasn't with.

As for Zevran's song, it uses 'you', not 'he/she' so the issue doesn't come up.

I guess I'm thinking about it a lot because i've had both male and female Wardens romance Leliana, and I like both.   I want a tiebreaker!

This thread generally favours F/F romance, though I've only romanced Leliana as a male. So I favour a male option in ballads.

Also, I could change the lyrics from third person to direct address. The words don't carry a rhyme, so it's nothing to swap in "you" for "s/he." It would change the song from a soliloquy to a dialogue (or at least, muddle the issue; she could be speaking to an absent 'you' but it wouldn't be clear from the words). I kind of dig it as a bit of self-reflection, but it may not be worth imposing a gender on the Warden.

I think it is about sexual roles. With women, Leliana becomes more active in romance. Basically she acts like a man. But with men, she expects the first step from the men and only when she loses her patience she declares her love. We can't decide which gender she prefers.

yes i believe that is the case.

Notice how, as a male, if you don't wait to complete her Quest, you actually have to Compliment her to Romance you?("You know, a beautiful charming woman like yourself" and "Those initiates can’t have been more lovely than you"
EDIT: Oh, and the classic "What about your Fruit? is it forbidden?". For some reason that doesn't work for females)

Unlike in the Female Romance, where SHE takes the First Step(you can't romance her until she doesn't).

Doesn't Really matter, one of the Writers(i read this A LONG ass time ago, so don't ask for links, i don't remember) confirmed that Leli(along with all the available romances for the respectable gender) is AUTOMATICALLY interested in The Warden, but Nothing will happen until The Warden shows interest.
