All right, all right, I'll put something more substantial in here...

Putting Leliana's smexiness (reluctantly) aside, I'm curious of how others in this thread first perceived Leli in the game.  She was the first character I romanced all the way to tent time (lucky Kallian!), and I was astonished that I actually enjoyed talking about shoes with someone.  (this is *not* me!)  I have since come to love all the characters, but I have a widdle soft spot for Leliana because she took my DA cherry. 

So, did you all glom onto Leliana right away, or did it take a while?  I talked to someone who had played the game 3 times before they knew you could romance Leliana as a woman.  I was like, 'what, you never talked to her or something?" <_<

HanErlik--go back to about page 317 to 319 to see kind of why this thread never took off like the others despite Leliana being one of the most popular characters from both games. There will still be some that disagree with what happened back almost a year ago, but the numbers do not lie.

tklivory--My first game was a mage that romanced Morrigan, but during that game I discovered how rich Leliana's character is. She's been my mainstay ever since.

My first romance (as MWarden) was Leliana. He was a nice-guy Cousland, totally not into Morrigan disapproving of helping people, so that kinda reduced his choices. I like that she's a bit of deconstruction of the standard BioWare perky-thief stereotype with her darker past and assassinating people and stuff.

I've since played a FWarden who use Leliana for sex then dumped her for Zevran (post-foursome)...that was very difficult, RP'ing that character. I naturally gravitate to the Leli romance, it feels the most natural to me (as a player, not as my characters) of the four. My Mahariel elf for example (avatar) has grown up as someone who respects strength and independence and resents the elves for mostly losing theirs and hence has a stronger connection with Morrigan.

RE: p317:-319...hey that was me hanging out here before DA2 that sparked that. Haha. Yeah the lesbians can't have Leliana for themselves, mwahaha.

It took a while. I largely anticipated her being preachy, annoying and generally objecting whenever my character wanted to run a sword through anyone or do anything fun.

Luckily, Wynne fills that spot instead.

Well this is rather pointless but...

The Fenris thread was started by Chris Priestly about 3 or 4 months before DA2 was released. The first several hundred pages are filled with rampant speculation about what he would be like and what his role in the game would be. Gaider participated in it quite a bit so obviously that attracted a lot of attention even from people who weren't that interested in the character.

So combining the headstart, rampant speculation of new stuff, and the thread being open at the time of the game's release, is it really any wonder why that thread is MUCH longer than a character thread that was started approximately 8 months after the game in which that character was in was released?

If a Leliana thread had been opened at the time of DAO's release it would've been much larger. 

As an example, the Zevran thread right now is barely over 200 pages long. It was started at around the same time this thread was created. Compare that to the original Zevran thread started right around the time of the game's release (which wasn't even intended to be a Zevran thread actually), which reached around 1400 pages, most of them during the first few months. As time pases and interest wanes, so does the rate of posting. It really isn't rocket science. 

As for that other conspiracy theory mentioned earlier...

No one called it a conspiracy theory...just a vibe that thread gave off (back then). I dunno about now, I've only come back to the boards a few days ago.

I think it also comes down to the fact that females make up the majority of Fenris' fanbase. Not saying that Leli doesn't have female fans, but in comparison to the Fenris thread, it's a sausage fest in here.

What difference does that make? Females tend to generate a lot more fanfics than males and they contribute their work to the thread. Their compatriots read their stories, they comment, and so the page count rises.

Sadly I think thats the case for most people who never like Leliana, they get put off by her actions when she first joins and never bother to talk to her after.

there isn't much to think, but i believe there are 3 or 4 reasons as to why this thread never really took off like the others:
1)A good chunk of the male leli fans play with females anyway(mostly for the lesbo scenes:devil:)
2)most(Not all, most) males are absolute **** with fanfictions and fanarts, or don't like to do it.
3)Many fans(both male and females) either didn't came here, or didn't stay(if you to the earlier pages, you'll see many other posters but almost none stayed.)
4) most fanfiction that is done with her(at least that i've seen) is just another generic "OMFG ur so Hawt let's ****!!!" thing , so it doesn't matter if they post it here.

I'll admit when I read that bolded part, I wanted to go smack someone in the face.  That is so... so... antithetical to her character it just... oooooooh...

it's nice to see the Thread is still alive... and well. 
not a whole lot of walls of posts and quotes and reposts.... 

and love the "Making Cookies with Sten"  - priceless!!

with DA2 and more new games out... I have to say Leli is still one of my all-time faves
I do hope they bring her in again...

but, I do still play DA:O -- tinkering around with new characters and mods.. but RL has snuck in pretty heavily so don't get to play as much...

Oh and it was never thought that this would be a huge thread...   it's for fans of Leliana, those who appreciate and love her ...  and let's face it...  some don't... 
what is nice is that those that are here are Leli fans and not Leli bashers...
