Besides to me Leliana isn't stating it as a fact but rather a hypothesis.

my first time on this thread and have to say I enjoyed Leliana. especially her voice and I hope she has a big role in DA#3

thanks. right now am playing DAO to death while ME3 ec dlc is being worked on. For me it seems like Leliana has the most dialogue in the game, if not its pretty close

I'd be surprised if they actually did anything major with her romance in DA3. I kind of saw it  as "over" after the first game. The Warden seemed to have left her (or she left him) after Origins and has gone missing.  Since the Warden was technically "written off" and Leliana's larger role in the next game, it would be nothing more than a quick mentioning. The only ways I could imagine them getting back together is if they...

1: Make the Warden playable again ( Never going to happen)
2.  Give an epilogue at the end (Bioware hated doing them in Origins & Awakening and just retconned them anyway)
3: Released a DLC like Witch Hunt (possible, but not likely.)

Really just can't picture Bioware doing anything big with her romance unless they did one of those three.
I wouldn't even be shocked if they waved it off completely and made her romanceable again.

Sucks that it may have been just a fling, though.  But they haven't even given us info on what she's going to do in the next game so....*shrugs*

I don't know about that.. They still seemed to be together as of Awakening (there's the letter if you don't trust the epilogue) even though they were in different nations on their own business, if there was any implication they separated it went well over my head.

ME3 surprised me with what's apparently feasible with companions and old decisions. No matter how you play the first two, there's at least one companion you won't see at all in the third game; that's a lot of "optional" content. Now I'm not expecting anything like entirely optional companions as a result of a former romance, but it makes a decent sized dialogue or two look very reasonable depending on how long she's around and how many other former romances turn up, certainly puts the token reference in DA2 to shame (I know she wasn't around long enough to warrant any more but still).

I know writers feed on despair but "the warden disappeared and their love moved on, gg" would be such an unsatisfying to wrap it up I can't believe they'd do it, I'm certain they can do better. Plus, given what Mike Laidlaw said at PAX about decisions mattering even from previous games, well romances are probably (to me at least) the 2nd most important choices after the big main story choices, so I'd be doubly disappointed if they sidelined them for returning characters.

I haven't completely written off the thought of a happy ending with the Warden and her. I just can't picture them doing it. David Gaider has already shown a habit of completely writing off past choices and preforming 180's on characters like Merrill and Anders. With her backstory being rewritten and her infamous death retcons from Origins, I fear she's going to be next on his radar. The Warden's "disappearance" and the massive time gap between Awakening ( 8 1/2 years) & DA3 would make it extremely easy for him to just handwave it.

Or, putting a more positive spin on it, after Merrill and Anders got their rewrites, they went on to play massive roles in the next game.. Well, Leliana's already had her handwave, and I shouldn't think her no longer being dead is a problem for anyone here anyway, so things can only go well, right?

Yes, that's true. A few days ago I started Awakening, and she send you a letter saying that she will tell me about it when we're back together.... lol... back together, the Warden and Leliana.

It's a codex entry you unlock as soon as you start Awakening.
