Well now I'm looking at the conversation in the toolset, and she doesn't even say that it's her view on the elves. She barely describes the position of elves in Orlais. She doesn't say that she finds elves pleasing to look at, or that they deserve such position, or anything like that. It's sad that the only possible PC's reactions are the butthurt ones.

My thoughts exactly.

Did you see this part?
PC: You may not be cruel but you still see us differently.
Leliana: I...I did not realize that. It is so strange, how long-held beliefs just seem natural and...right. Like there is no other way to feel. (VO: Apologetic and awkward)

These two lines convince me that she feels at least some of it if only because that's the societal beliefs of Orlais.

Well you know how it is: if you love a character enough you will find a way for your character to be on good terms with them/date them even if that confuses those who are not as much of a fan.

I honestly don't know what you want people to say other than "You are 100% right about everything Sarah." People have said how they feel about, they've done so in a rational way and you respond with "Your all too blind to see the truth I'm dishing out." The Dalish one is harsher it does make people uncomfortable and it can be reasonable that it would turn a character off to her romantically. All they've added is that they think it is also reasonable for a character to decide a person can change bigoted views and offer forgiveness to a person. If you believe that a person doesn't deserve a second chance then don't give it out, some people have said that they believe a person like Leliana offered forgiveness and a relationship can be formed if it is so desired. That doesn't sound like blind unrational devotion.

That wasn't what I meant and I'm not looking for other people to never romance Leliana with an elf. What I want is people to stop telling me that my decision to not romance her as an elf based on that conversation is unreasonable.

What you quoted, in particular, wasn't just applying to Leliana/elf fans and in some cases applies to me. It's just an observation about the nature of fans in general and not just DA ones. Take Snarry from the HP fandom, for instance. Most people will not understand those that want to pair Harry and Snape up because Snape is projecting his feelings for James onto Harry. The fact that the people who write these stories like the pairing means that no matter how much non-Snarry fans don't understand or find it disturbing they will find a way to make it work because that's what they are interested in.

If you are interested in romancing Leliana no matter which origin you are playing then you aren't going to let something like the elf conversation which may give lesser fans of the character pause stop you.

Edit: And the only reason I even brought this up after the one post I had where someone was asking 'human mage or dalish elf and why' was because you called my decision extreme.

It was me, I admit it.

Edit: And I said above I was talking more about your interpretation of what she says than how you reacted to it.

Looking back, you're right. It was nerdage. I just don't like being told that I had the 'wrong' reaction to that conversation and honestly don't care if everyone here wants to create 100 shem-hating Dalish that fall for Leliana the moment you see her and learn how to not be racist together.

Well if this whole thing was just miscommunication where you were reading into my use of the word 'racist' connotations I wasn't intending and I took your assertion that that was extreme as telling me that I wasn't supposed to care what she said about elves then it's time for:

Leliana: Thank you for giving me something to think about. It's strange how these long held beliefs seem so natural.

PC: 1. Get lost human overlord!

2. I shall wipe out your entire race with my knife ears!

3. You human are all racist!

One of the reasons I never played a Dalish past the origin is because I found it hard to justify being so nice to humans, which I can't help doing. And on the plus side, it's helped expand the thread, we have plenty of catching up to do.

And many people (especially at the Alithread) feel that Alistair being just as polite to them as he is to anyone can pave the way for a complete reevaluation of those shem-hating beliefs. But again:

Man with the EA conference over the hope has officially died . . .

Edit: Also no worries Sarah things didn't get out of hand, a good discussion and it came to an reasonable conclusion. Much better than how things on the internet usually turn out.

Shame, I'm still waiting to know what the "announcement" on www.corinnekempa.com was all about, was that ever officially squashed?

No, but nobody has any idea what she was talking about. It can't be Darkspawn chronicles since that didn't have any new VO work by her, you see Leliana and then kill her. The last cutscene before you execute Alistair, both her and Morrigan are already dead so they don't say anything.

True, but she wasn't allowed to leak information in the first place. Now, Bioware was probably alerted by the leak and now she won't reveal anything else... :(

Wouldn't hurt to try. I won't tell bioware ^_^

So steam is having an EA week. Hopefully they'll put awakening up on sale. I am most eager to play it.

Yeah, maybe my life isn't all that exciting but if I voiced a character in a game I'd be quite excited to give it a go, unless she just doesn't have a good enough computer...

I'm still raging over the fact that I paid more for Awakening than I did for DAO... the first time I completed it I felt like a massive tool.
