At first, I choose a mage, because I thought it would be the most fun
and also would feel most like a leader.
I want to be the one
directing everyone else, and making everyone else a better fighter.
The
general.

Then I discovered that nobles could end the game as
king, but that mages could not. This has changed my perspective....

So.
What is it like to play as a warrior? Do you feel like a king on the
front lines, the standard to which all others follow?
What do you
spend your time doing in combat?
Also, how do others treat you in
dialogue?

There are several possible conclusions to the story you choose to play, but only you know what is needed to make them fun. If you desire to be King, this can be done with a Human Male Warrior or Rogue. See here for intel:

Personally, I like Warriors, but they are not as much fun for me to play as Rogues or Mages. The latter classes require more personal attention, while a Warrior has less options in game/combat. Rogues have Skills and some Talents that allow for more involvement in the tale. Mages also have many spells, and various combos that make for a spicy tactical stew. Warriors tend towards selecting a few of the same Talents, and mostly can run on auto.

As a human noble you basically lose your name and title. You are recognized and mentioned sometimes but basically there is not too much difference.

Combat is straight on, you have more time controlling your companions.

G_M: bleh :P

warriors are much more point and click, "baljdsqglkh I smash you!!" then mages and rogues. you can usually charge in and just smash without worrying about "tactics" so much. there's the occasional fight where you do have to actually think a bit, haha. they're a bit too simple for me to constantly play, but YMMV. also, kinda confused as to why you thought you could be king on a mage...made sense to me right off the bat *shrug*

My personal opinion is that the main character should be a strong figure in full armor, charging into battle and meeting the bulk of the enemies head-on. It also comes in handy when you have dialogues that end in combat, as you're right there next the enemy and the squishy mages are in the back. Mages are slightly more fun to play and have a lot more options, but I use the respec mod to make Wynne and Morrigan however I want, so it's just as effective as building your own.

I recall my 2hander experiment was pretty joyous in mid-high levels as my templar/champion crowd control along with 2 handed sweep kept the battlefield on lockdown. It felt pretty glorious! All strength, control battlefield tempo with redundant AoE's.

My dual wield warrior is fly by his pants, no effective control at all but very hard to hit due to dex&daggers & massive armor &defense.

Rogues are deadlier and funnier to play with and they can actually hold on their own with high dex and dodge, but there' s something rather satisfying in having the Warden bash, smash or slash foes in submission without needing a tank to protect him/her.

You would actually change to warrior just to be king?

Well, other than that. You would still be the Hero of Ferelden.

I think one other fun thing with warrior, specifically the dual wielder using dex & daggers. You'll only use 6-8 of the dual wielding talents skipping the middle line. You can take some archery talents instead so go for arrow of slaying or scattershot if you want, that could be really neat.

I've found warrior to be somewhat dull, mostly because of the incredibly slow attack speed and rate of attack. I usually go rogue. I've finished the game with a dual wielding warrior but can't get into it with sword/shield and 2h.

2h aesthetics can be kinda frustrating, I recommend 2 naked mages with haste to spice things up.

I agree that Warrior gets kinda dull. The only thing that makes it kinda worthwhile is a well placed whirlwind.....the numbers you see flying are impressive. That, and when an Ogre grabs you and pounds the ever-loving crap out of you, you will actually survive lol.
