I have DATool for Dragon Age and have reskinned items before using this guide:
http://social.biowar...75/index/301264
However, I am trying to reskin a modder's item for personal use and it keeps coming up with these messages:
- Cannot open ITEM NAME HERE.mmh for reading
- Missing MMH file (even though it is the MMH I'm opening and it works perfectly fine in the toolset/game)
Anyone know what causes this to happen?
Many Thanks
Reskinning a custom made item?

not heard of this before, but where is your mmh? maybe try it inside an override folder if its not in one, or outside of one if it is...?
i have previously been able to adjust the other people's mmh files without coming across this problem.

The files are not in the same directory as datool. Kinda silly and misleading error I know.

I'm more than interested by this : you mean it is possible to see your custom items with datools ?
How do you make this happen ?
Do i have to install datools in a particular folder ? I thought datools was looking in the bioware database or something like that.

Yes, you can view your custom item/retextures in DATool. The mmh/phy (and msh files if they are custom too) need to be in the same directory as the DATool.exe, then just use "File -> Open File" to open that mmh. If the mmh is NOT in the directory with DATool.exe, you will get the misleading error described by the OP. The actual dds texture files can be in your normal addin path location and it will still find them, if I recall correctly. Not sure about the MAOs... they may need to go into the DATool.exe path too or not, can't remember. Then just repeat the open file to refresh with updated textures. Makes the initial diffuse texture work so much faster than loading DAO each time, even though DATool doesn't let you control the model rotation.
