So onboard sound is acceptable now? I always disabled it and

necessary these days?
(Give me a bit of a break, I built my last computer in like '01.
Still a champ to this day though!)

T o be honest, I would prefer a discreet (separate) sound card even on a newer motherboard, since it's less work to be diverted to the CPU that way.

Well, the market has kind of spoken, its hard to find dedicated sound cards.  This article from Tom's hardware explains why, particularly this page.

http://www.tomshardw...ics,2560-2.html

The change is so apparent you'll note SoundBlaster now makes the X-FI MB, which is just a bundle of software drivers only that work with the Integrated 7.1 motherboard sound.  With CPU power and integrated audio, it's almost trivial for any modern PC to product good sound.

Working, playing other things since Awakening was absolutely a disappointment in many ways. I still lurk though.
I've actually spent more time on the PS3 the last month or two than the PC strangely enough.

They used to do that back in the day. I remember when Sacrifice came out I had to go on Shiny's website and look up a list of compatible sound cards. They actually had specific lists of which ones were and weren't supported back then. I also wonder if they still do this. Perhaps Victor or someone can answer.

The reason they don't do that nowadays is because with the new Windows versions and the rise in integrated technology, most "sound cards" are part of the core motherboard and interpreted by the Windows OS.  So it's becoming rarer to have a dedicated sound cards now in general.  I suspect 5-6 years from now the same will be of video cards, if AMD takes off with Fusion and if Intel can ever get a good integrated chip going (or buy nVidia)

Well this is a total load of bull.  Integrated or not, you still need a specific driver for a given chip to run properly.  It's HOW it's delivered is what makes them different.  (PCI/AGP/etc).

Additionally, the windows OS has very little to do with interpretation.   It's the drivers responsibility from the driver's manufacturer to do the interpretation.  All the windows OS does recognize a specific piece of hardware and attach a specific driver to it (in lamens terms).  Windows offload's audio functions to the audio driver...which in itself is manufactured by another company.

Please get your facts straight.

I acknowledge this post is completely off topic.

Well..it kind of relates to the audio question I asked and the discussion that happened after that. :)   I'm waiting to see if they will have a list of affected audio cards, as per something that was said in the OP about audio related ctds.      Hopefully they will give us a list if its on the user side.

Depends on what you want from a sound system.  With 2-channel audio all onboard chips will do just fine.  Some onboard chipsets don't support anything more than 2-channel sound.  In a case such a this you'd have to add a card.

A lot of people appear to not be using logic here; they appear to be getting annoyed instead of finding possible solutions for the problems. I agree BioWare stated their product would do "X" and it does not do "X". I do not believe this was an intended result though. If it was they would not be attempting to rectify this error with the patches. I do not appear to have many bugs with my game apart from the stealing glitch of patch 1.03. Now I agree if they make a mistake by all means tell them. I however do not agree with insulting them for making a mistake. "Ad Hominem: Attacking the person who presents an issue rather than dealing logically with the issue itself". This is a logical fallacy. If you want them to patch the game help them do so. Send them private messages of your system specifications and the exact glitch, where and when it occured for you. When people have upset someone they normally do a better job if the person they have upset is dealing with the issue in a logical outcourse and attempting to aid them rectify the issue. It does not matter that it's their job to fix it. What would you prefer:

A) They fix it all by themselves without aid from the community and take a very long time because of it.

B) The community goes out of it's way to aid them with said issues and they take far less time than situation A.

I would prefer situation B. It is not hard to not insult someone. In fact it is harder to go onto a forum to insult someone than it is to do nothing. I'm not telling you to go out of your way to help them since it is their job to fix these errors but insulting them helps no one but yourself and in the long run it only makes the process take longer which harms even yourself by the end result.

Therefore it is logical to attempt to aid the Developers or to say nothing at all.

:)

Unfortunately for console users we are completely at the mercy of the devs for patches, therefore getting no responses or acknowledgements that they have received the issue reports (either in forums, in EA commiunication or via Bio support) can get rather tiresome

Geez, there sure is a lot of bickering gone on here. I know that when the 1.03 patch came out and I downloaded and installed it I began to have a lot of problems with the game. However, when I apprehensively broke down and purchased "The Awakening," and installed it the 1.03 patch was included on the disk. In fact, it automatically installed it. Much to my surprise many of the problems that I was having prior seemed to disappear. However, as I stated before, the game seems to crash on some occasions still. So, I have learned to save a lot. Well, at least I try to remember to save!?!

I guess playing this game is much like real life, you have to roll with the punches. Admittedly I play the game just about every day. Probably because I am single and retired. Still, I enjoy the game despite the problems. The best that we can hope for is that Bioware will release a new patch soon and hopefully everything will be fine. Still, I am looking forward to Dragon Age 2 and hope that it will be twice the game that Origins is.

Let's all just stop the bickering and see what Bioware comes up with, again, hopefully in the near future?!? What say you all?

Would it be hard for Bioware to post something like this:

To our Fans:

We wish to inform you that we are indeed working on a patch that will solve many issues of the game. We also realise that we were timely in delivering information to our fanbase and we apologize for this and the frustration that it has created amongst the community.

We are looking into all the posting that we have had over the months and read everyone of them to create a report that we can use to work with to fix the most pressing issues of the game.

Dragon age is a franchise that we want to see grow even more and be fun to play. We are really dedicated to the franchise and we are sincerely sorry if our business plan did not work out in favor of our fans.

We are addressing the patching concern and will take every measure necessary to avoid a repitition of what has happened lately on the forums.

We plan to satisfy the pc and console(s) players with a patch that will resolve most issues and we will keep patching until we feel and also that the community feels that we have a polished product and that we have delivered on our promise to make Dragon Age a unique game and universe to be in and have fun in.

We appreciate everyone that has contributed in one way or another into making this game better by modding or by posting feedback on the forums.

Every person here is important to us. You are our bread and butter and we thank you for that.

Again our most sincere apologies and very soon you will discover that Dragon Age will be what you want it to be and what we had envisionned for you, our fellow gamers.

Cheers and stay tuned for more exciting news soon....

your complaing does not help.
1. you dont nkow what else they have still running though microsoft and sonys QA.
2. telling you those fixed problems could be lieing to you if microsoft gives them a no and it does not appear in the fixes.
3. anything running though QA is essentially fixed, its entuirely possible that all the fixes are done and are just starting QA.
4. complaining about how long it took wont give you that time back.
5.you are makeing too many assumtions.
6. you are useless to these forums.

Nope couldn't happen.....this quoted post at the top of this thread didn't happen either...its shhhhh...invisible.

Hello all,

We know that you have been wondering about the status of Dragon Age and upcoming fixes that we will be patching into the game in the future, and so we wanted to deliver an update to the community on the topic.

Since the game's launch, we have been tracking and prioritizing the issues that you have encountered and posted about in the forums. We've created a comprehensive list of these issues and have been hard at work fixing those that are the most critical to your game.

But we also wanted to make sure that you knew the status of these bug fixes and what you can expect to see resolved when the game update is finally released. So, starting with this post, we will begin listing those details. We won't reveal the full contents of the update, as many parts are still in testing and may or may not make it in. But with this first post, we wanted to assure you that many of the top issues you may have encountered are a part of the update and will be resolved.

The following items are just a small set of fixes that will be included in the update. We know that these are some of the most discussed issues, so we wanted to make sure you knew that they would resolved.

•    Game saves on Xbox 360 were being corrupted if you sold too many items to the same merchant.  Saves will no longer be corrupted if you do this.
•    Daggers will now properly assign the dexterity-based damage bonus
•    Updated audio drivers to fix a number of audio related crashes.

Keep watching for additional details. We’re packing a lot in this update and have more to reveal!

We can't give you a timeframe just yet. Our goal is to release these fixes in the shortest time possible, but we also want to make sure that this update is high quality and doesn't create any new problems. That process will take time, but we will revisit this topic until then with updates to let you know new items that have been resolved or added to the list.

These fixes are driven by your feedback, and we will keep watching the forums to find issues that we could resolve. What we've listed are not the full patch contents, but things we knew that you were most concerned with and wanted to let you know about.

And with all that said, thank you for your feedback and for helping us identify the parts of the game that needed resolution. Keep watching for more details on the next update and sharing your thoughts!

Actually the vocalization of discontent is not only good for the lolz but useful for the company that receives it and indispensable for companies to continue to best themselves.

Do you like having NG+ in ME2? If people hadn't got mad in the forums and ranted for months about it, it wouldn't have happened

Wait are you saying ME2 has NG+ NOW!???
hmmm is that update for x box?
Reason people complained about that is because they had it in ME 1 and took it out with me 2
Glitches and bugs are tottaly different from that.

The only good thing is that Friday, today, it does seem they are doing something, after 7 months of showing doing nothing with patches, in the Xbox case, of course :)
