I am just about to start Awakenings. I was going to import my character and he is well equiped. I know you can only import the equipment you are carrying and stuff you left in your chest doesn;t come with you. My question is is it worth the trouble to go back to my last origins save and collect up as much of my partys equiment as I can? Is there enough good stuff in Awakenings to adequitely equip my new party members? I really don;t feel like going through that so if there is enough good stuff i'm not going to bother.

Thanks Posted Image

You might want to go get your stuff from the chest, especially if you're using the Blood Dragon Armor or the Warden Commander Armor and Starfang; those items do not transfer to Awakening without "cheating" (only possible on PC). There are better armors and weapons available at some point, but having decent stuff at the beginning makes the first 20 or so minutes go more smoothly.

Keep mementoes to be placed in the next chest; you do your own moving here. Any equipment not needed or not able to be transferred, you can sell using the Epilogue Save at the end of DAO, as gold can be helpful early in Awakenings.

And using that Epilogue save, you can strip your companions of their gear for some easy gold, too.

I just did that today, took everyone's gear off and I'm currently at the Warden's Keep chest trying to decide if any gear is worth importing or if I should just liquidate everything.

I'm keeping my PC's gear (archer), and also some random really good archery pieces to throw on Nathaniel, but other than that I'm not seeing much that I really want to bring over.

I've only played about 30 minutes into Awakenings, but from what it looks like the new NPC's will come equipped with as good if not better gear than most of the non-DLC stuff I currently have in the stash.

Any opinions on Origins Gear that is good enough to save for Awakenings?

How does the importing equiptment work in awakenings? Do I need to have them on my person when I finish DAO?

Your equipped items as well as your inventory will carry over. Most DLC items will not carry over.

You don't need to actually permanently sell your stuff. I actually take a few minutes (because that's all it takes), load up my epilogue save, and strip everyone in camp of everything. Sell all DLC items that aren't from Return to Ostagar (RtO stuff does transfer), then decide if the rest is worth taking. I generally just take all of it, simply so I can have options when deciding how to outfit each character.

Once you've got everything set to transfer, simply create a new save. That way, you have one save in which everyone has everything still equipped, and another where they're all standing around camp in their small-clothes.

As for what to take, you'll quickly get a Warrior, a Mage, and a Rogue. Have an idea of how you want to build them, and take equipment to meet that goal. Just make sure to take at least 24 Gold, so you can pick up 4 Manual of Focus'.

That's what I ended up doing, just stripping everyone, saving, then having a Fire Sale. I ended up with like 500 gold or something ridiculous. I was just curious if there were any of the standard equipment (mainly weapons or armor) that stood up for long enough in Awakenings to be worth porting over.

Some of them do, actually. The Felon's Coat and the Chasind Great Maul do last a while. Some of the equipment can be replaced immediately if you have the money; the Staff of the Magister Lord can be replaced by the Spellfury if you have an extra 170-some gold, for example. Others will last you a great while. I actually just sold the DLC stuff, then took everything else. Whatever didn't get equipped got sold in Awakenings.

Ok, probably a stupid question but what is an epiloge save. I'm not sure if I have a save after the archdemon battle. Does it automatically make a save. Can;t check myself right now cuse i lent my disk (playing on 360) to a friend.

Also, Can you import your character more that once? If I import him to a awakenings without collecting all my gear and decide I want it can I start a new awakening game and import him again after collecting all my stuff?

An Epilogue Save is one made after the credits role. You only have access to the Party Camp and any DLC locations. The game saves automatically after the credits roll.

And yes, you can import a character into Awakenings more than once. I've imported my Two-Handed Burster a couple of times, and will do so at least one more time.

What happens to character specific items (Marjolaine's recurve, morrigan's clothes). does it disappear?

That, I don't know. I never bothered to take any character-specific gear in.

No,  if they're in your inventory they'll transfer, and you can sell them in Awakening.

You'll generally find much better equipment in Awakening than you could bring, with a few exceptions: my last transferred character, an archer, went through the entire game using the Felon's Coat and Far Song from Origins. Maric's blade from RTO also got a lot of use from my warrior in Awakening (also Duncan's Dagger). The Dead Thaig Shanker from Shale's personal quest also transfers, and holds up very well.

If it's a top-notch item in Origins (something that you bought for > 50 gold, or something else like Key to the City that *someone* in your party is always wearing if it's not your Warden) then you should bring it over. Otherwise, bring over items that you prefer or that match your playstyle, and sell the rest. Any rings etc. that give 5% or even 10% bonuses...probably sell those, and similar rules for armor and weapons (bring only those items that are really well above average even for unique magical items).

The Felon's Coat I can understand, but you're still using the Far Song? I'd take the Misery or the Heartwood Bow over the Far Song any day of the week. And as for the Dead Thaig Shanker, I suppose it would be good when paired with the Voice of Velvet.

One other thing to keep in mind is to equip whatever weapons and armor (and armor bonuses) you know won't transfer such as Warden Commander Armor or Blood Dragon Plate. If you're wearing it, then those stats and bonuses become permanent to your character when you transfer. Sort of a "sorry" for them not transferring over

LOL    I don't think it's something they intended, much less "built" in.  It's a BUG.
