Matthew Fox is listed on IMDBpro as being "rumored" to play commander shepard in the movie.

It annoys me that they've decided to pick an actor based on looks, considering players have the option to change Shepard's appearance. Also disappointing that Shepard is still canonically male, considering that female Shepard is a more interesting and better-written character in my opinion.
There the same character, it only matters how you role play your Shepard.

I'd be okay with that.

They're the same character...how can female Shepard have better writing?

Mostly boils down to the romances. I think her interactions with those characters feel a bit more sincere and are more gradually developed.Shotokanguy wrote...

Of course, not related to writing, but I also just think the voice acting provided by Jennifer Hale is much more convincing. Having a stock-serious male Shepard doesn't feel right to me.

Under in development...take this for what it is worth, I dont know how much I trust imdb (I go there alot but mostly when a movie is further along in development) , and dont know who can edit it.
and there ya go.
Also I am sure the script isnt even written yet....so that is pure speculation on actors imo, give me a source that isnt imdb, and I will believe it.
Also (again) Although I dont like the idea of it being a shepards story movie, he isnt a bad choice.

IMDB is mainly edited by fans not the actual actors or the studios. Seeing as there is no screenplay/script even written for the Mass Effect movie yet, there is no possible chance for them to even be casting roles. The IMDB update is no different than some knucklehead posting B.S. on Wikipedia that just hasnt been corrected yet.

Aye
The fact a script hasnt been written is reason enough to know it was posted by someone for kicks...or to make a point.

The only point it makes it the person that did it has no clue how to cast a successful movie. You dont put someone that'll be 46 years old at the time of filming(at its earliest) into the role of a 29 year old that you plan on making a possible franchise/trilogy out of.

Until a script is finalized then they will start casting actors, right now don't listen to the IMDB rumors because it is too soon.

Matthew Fox looks damn good for 46. He could play Shepard and I doubt anyone would complain about him not looking 29.

A) I'm complaining so there goes that theory, plus there are a couple other people in the same frame of mine in the official movie discussion thread on the forums here.
C) I dont think he's that good an actor.

Not true. They have already found the actor. Some Dutch guy that looks just like Shepard.
You´re probably talking about the guy Shepard was modelled after. But that´s a model, not an actor, and I doubt they´ll choose him.
Anyways, a Female Shepard would be much better for the movie.
