Anyways, a Female Shepard would be much better for the movie.

Only if she romances Liara.

I still say I want Kevin Sorbo.

Failing that, Joe Pesci. He'd straighten those Reaper c**ks***ers out with one visit.

I doubt they've picked the cast out yet.

A few questions though. Why wouldn't the film be about Shepard's story? What else are they going to do? They're going to ignore the biggest threat to humanity in a new sci fi IP, and make the film about a Batarian terrorist plot (Die Hard in space)? If so, why make it science fiction at all?

Secondly, if it is about Shepard, let's not base our preference on the voice actors from the game - the screen actor is what will make or break the film. Another thought - if they did cast Shepard as a female, that doesn't automatically make the film better. Tomb Raider did stand out when it was first made, mainly because the lead role was a female. That CERTAINLY didn't mean the same for the films, which were shockingly bad. Casting a female Shepard would draw a lot of comparisons to a certain Miss Ripley too. I'm not convinced that would be a good thing.

Of course. If there is no Liara sex scene I´m not even going to watch the movie.

After all, Liara was the best in Mass Effect....

i really dont think they should use shep in the film, what ever version they use they will ****** off 3/4 of their fans as it wont be their version of shep, they will most like use the male/paragon version if they do use Shep so anyone who made something different wont be happy, like me, my ideal Shep is this:

Red-head female paragon, anything thing else just isnt Shep to me, despite me playing other sheps this will always be my main one

And the movie will in no way affect your game.  The men in black from BioWare or Legendary Pictures arent going to kick in your door and force you to erase any Mass Effect character files that dont adhere to the movie version.  Just view the movie as a one of those other Shepards.  The elistist mentallity of people on these boards baffles me. We should all be excited and hopefull for the movie, obviously with a hint of cautious because of the track record of video game adaption to film. The chance that it does well however would open the Mass Effect Universe to tons of other merchandise and give BioWare a major boost  to improve all future products.  So what if it doesnt look like your *main* Shepard. Its the chance to make Mass Effect more than just a a simple little action/rpg within a small genre minority.

I really hope this isn't true! The movie should be based on another time period of the Mass Effect universe entirely. Like the first contact war, or the uprise of the geth. Including Shepard in any form besides reference would only anger so, so many people, since they all have their own vision of who Shepard is.

...Not that anyone would care. Sigh. I just hope they eventually decide not to make Shepard the main character.

'Rumored to play Shepard'? Since when does that mean anything? Rumors are rumors because they are rumors. Let the producers say it and then I'll believe it.

LIke I keep saying, this is way too far off to worry about now. If it even happens. Look, if Halo, one of the industry's biggest franchises, can't get a movie, no one can. And after the Prince of Persia debacle, I doubt the support for these endeavors has gone up any. Personally, as much as I would love to see a ME movie, I don't think it'll pan out. Or at least it won't pan out until a long ass time from now.

Question: If so many people dislike the idea, is it a good idea to make a movie based on it?

I don't like the idea of including Shepard in the movie. I silently pray to the videogame gods that exist in my closet but only when you're not specifically looking for them that Bioware will not have Shepard as anything besides a cameo being mentioned in a piece of dialogue.

Did a lot of old Star Trek fans like the new Star Trek movie? Yes. Did many of them dislike it? Yes.
Did it affect the old series? No. Did the fact that it doesn't affect your precious old series twist opinions of the new movie? No.
Some fans still disliked it.

But of course, some people need to correct their opinions from dislike to like because a majority decides it's likeable.
The elitist mentality of people on this board baffles me.

News flash cootie, fans ALWAYS dislike certain ideas. If the industry avoided doing something because the fans hate the idea, you would have very little content right now.

If the person behind the movie has the right vision and captures the essence of Mass Effect, then the fans will be happy. For instance, I hear the Prince of Persia movie is actually an OK movie, it's not great but it's not bad, but it's better than what most movies get. It had some elements that captured the essence of the game, and if Mass Effect can be done properly, I wouldn't be surprised if it became as popular as Star Wars or Star Trek.

I'm a bit of a conservative in that sense. Sure, it halters innovations, but they usually end up safe and sound after moar teimz.

Perhaps my post was too cryptic, but my real point was not that everyone should dislike the idea that Shepard might be in the movie and thus "defined". My point was that, like you said, fans will always dislike certain ideas. And that pointing out arrogance without any hint of ones own humility, one makes a poor point.

My point was not aimed at Bioware's possible inclusion of their main character, but at the fact that bashing someone else's opinion (which had solid grounds that said "I think this way because...") in an effort to endorse your own opinion is not a good strategy.

Personally, I do hope Shepard has nothing to do with that script, but if he is I will take it like a man and ignore that version. My own Shepard is the canon Shepard, obviously. In that sense, I am rather relaxed.

In other news, why hasn't this thread been locked yet? Wasn't there a sticky about the movie?

It annoys me that they've decided to pick an actor based on looks, considering players have the option to change Shepard's appearance. Also disappointing that Shepard is still canonically male, considering that female Shepard is a more interesting and better-written character in my opinion.

How? They're exactly the same other than the romances. That's a stupid notion, really. Just because you think Hale has more emotion than Meer? They say the same lines.

I'm almost 100% sure that the reason Halo still doesn't have a movie is because each studio wants to do its own thing with Halo, rather than adhere to what Bungie wants.
But Mass Effect's universe is so much more maleable, and is meant to change a little bit, so some creative and artistic freedoms would be allowed, making this project a little more accessible.

Well to be frank, the shut-in aspbergers syndrome mentality of some of the fans seriously disturbs me.

This has real world implications. Normal people interact with these folks and then come to the conclusion that gaming alters people's ability to objectively discern reality from fantasy.

This is why you see these crusades against things like violence or sex in games. This is why you get those "concerned parents" and crusading ambulence chasing lawyers constantly picketting and boycotting and otherwise making huge annoying pains in the rear of themselves.

In a lot of ways to logical to believe that a small subset of my "fellow gamers" are agitating people who want to more or less shut down my hobby. From my perspective it would be better if they all took a Xanex and then shut the hell up, but I see that as unlikely to happen.

The end result of this, is just a lot of frustration upon the part of game hobbiests who are not insane. Sometimes it comes out ugly on forums (like now), but I equal time works that way doesn't it? If they can come up and complain about how a ME movie will totally suck because it won't be "their sheppard" on the screen, then other people have the right to come up and say, "Please take your meds and go away."

At least that's how I see it.

The revolting teenager-y bandwagon is a bit alarming, making me significantly peeved, somewhat ticked off, thoroughly annoyed and sincerely cross.
(I dare you to come up with something a lot better, otherwise I win and the game won't be as much fun)

Obviously I was wrong in thinking that common courtesy should come naturally, instead of the unconventional sewage that dribbles out from time to time.
Thank you for informing me that that is not always the case.

Although, to stay only slightly on topic (while really I'm not), the idea of a movie based off of the Mass Effect trilogy's storyline is rather dull. Since Mass Effect is such a cinematic experience, we've already seen it happen! It already has the visual aspects that a movie can give you. So that's rather pointless in my opinion.

Now, to hop ON topic, no, Matthew Fox in the role of Shepard has not been officially confirmed at this time.
