Kaidan usually has the point, especially since he's the character I created, and each fight usually begins with a crushing prison on any mages in sight or fireball on an unaware group off in the distance. If any enemies close in, then he'll freeze them with cone of cold, usually followed by flame blast.
All attribute points spent on magic, main skill is coercion, favorite spells are fireball, cone of cold and crushing prison, while group heal certainly gets it's use. Mostly travels with Alistair, Sten and Leliana.
My other character, a templar/champion tank named Arthur pretty much focused on coercion+combat training, weapon+shield tree along with the warrior, templar and champion talent trees. Basically he was the protector; would fight enemies head on with Sten close by and Leliana fought with her bow while Wynne was the healer. At level 23 he had base 38 str, 75 dex.
It was fun playing with the templar build, rushing into battle and fighting on the front lines, while having all the enemies focused on my warrior and not taking much damage due to his high defense along with whatever massive armor he was wearing. Even with just 38 strength, he had most of the kills and usually was the one doing the finishing blow against bosses. Shining moment was probably the Ser Cauthrien battle with her archers. Was able to completely ignore Ser Cauthrien with his high defense, while the party took out the archers one by one. I like the epic battles.

JD- Human Noble: Dual wielding warrior that just wrecked sh**. Got 36 DEX for all the DW talents and put the rest into STR. Even went as far as getting 100% spell resist. Whirlwind and DW sweep could nearly kill a mob and after that popping on dual striking and momentum finished them off with a few swipes.
Xerxes- Human Mage: After a few tries finally got a good mage. Put mostly magic as the primary attribute but a little in willpower and constitution also even though in the end it wasn't needed. Basically gave him fire and ice lines, stonefist, blood mage spells, and mass paralysis and crushing prison lines. Took spirit healer as the second spec. just for +2 magic and group heal. Ended up being a good damage and crowd controlling combo with secondary healing coming in handy.
Sammael- Dalish Elf: Rogue archer that actually turned out really well and now shreds Awakening. Used enough STR to get the armor I wanted, enough CUN to get the stealth level I wanted, and the rest went into DEX. Specs were ranger and duelist. Used the repeater gloves from RTO which allowed me to keep aim as a sustained up and still get rapid aim bonus. In Awakening keeping those equipped and putting accuracy and aim on at the same time gives you rapid aim and makes every attack a critical hit.

I made him an Arcane Warrior, who doesn't take nonsense from anyone. Most of his talents went into sustainable spells to buff him and the rest of the party during battles.
He also got a few big time spells like Inferno and Mana Clash to cast preemptively and take out a bunch of enemies.
As for weapon, I made him two-handed. It might be slower than 2 weapons or sword and shield, but the chances of hitting are a lot higher, and when he swings there's some magic behind it.

Assassin, Bard and Legion Scout eventually. will aim for 34 str for my own mod, a high cunning and "maxed" dex with some willpower as well. I've had her at 34, 50, 75, and 20 before, if curious.
top and bottom dual wield trees, melee archer and arrow of slaying line, most of the "good" rogue moves, most spec points (In Origins). Awk will get the first 2 or 3 DW moves, hopefully the archer ones, Legion Scout, and the new rogue moves.

I put some in str and some in will since you have a ton of active abilities you can constantly use.
Downside is weapon sustained abilities are a annoyance and not very useful when you constantly switch weapons.

I am trying Berserker on a Warden for the first time; usually take Templar early for the visit to the Circle. But after meeting the Ash warriors, as well as hearing more of their reputations (eg;"... and we got right out of their way), perhaps the Rage might be a good way for this Red Sonja type to express herself early in the build.
And I find the need for a pinch of Willpower after all. I cannot imagine running 2H on min adds.

how does that triple spec work out, is it good / tolerable?
Did you mean me? If so, it's great. Legion Scout damage immunity is pure gravy.

He is mostly invested into Magic, with a couple of points into Willpower, Consitution and Dexterity.
In Awakening, it's more the same, except he's also a Battlemage and has Hand of Winter, Draining Aura and Stoic.

At the end of DA:A I had put in enough Cun for full Coersion, enough Dex for top dualwield talents, and the rest into Str.
For armor he ran with the Sentinel set: http://dragonage.wik...tinel_Armor_Set equipped with a Amplification Rune, Endurance Rune, and a Paragon Immunity Rune.
For weapon he used Vigilance ( http://dragonage.wik...ance_(Longsword) ) and Dumat's Spine ( http://dragonage.wik...i/Dumat's_Spine ) both equipped with an Elemental Rune, Intensifying Rune, and a Momentum Rune.
Can't remember rings and necklace, but as a belt he still used Andruil's Blessing, since I didn't find anything outgearing that.
All in all he worked out very well, so well that I annoyingly decided to start all ovr just because I missed a couple of talent and attribute books in DA:O

Basically full range crowd control, some rather lethal damage over time, and actually not too shabby w/ dps. I'm actually doing TONS of micro managing during combat, Backhand Gauntlets never come off, but she's equipped w/ the Tevinter Mage Robes, Reinforced Magus Cowl, Fade Striders, and the Final Reason when casting crowd control and debuffs, then I put on the Cameo Cowl, Archon Robes, and Deygan's Boots after casting any blood magic spells to recover hp. To maximize spellpower, I have her wear the Dreamsever, the Bloodring, the Lifedrinker, and the Belt of the Magister Lords. During level ups, I pour the majority of attribute points into magic.

Dual Wield Warrior with Momentum, Haste and Precise Striking is the fastest killing machine ever! You have power, speed and accuracy at 36 dex. Pump strength to get good armor and damage. Add in the Ring of Ages and Jugg Armour for 40%+ resistance to all and you have a serious machine! Throw in Champion and Templar to boot!

Adair is a Melee Rogue currently sitting at level 22 with a Duelist/Assassin waiting to be imported into DO:A. Dual Daggers and the best gear in the game including Felon's Coat, Rose's Thorn, and Thorn of the Dead Gods (tier 6) with 20 str, 32 dex (as I dont need dual weapon mastery), and 60-something cunning. I just send Alistair in to gather up the melee mobs and stun and solo the mobs that dont line up to Alistair, and then go back to the tank and it's like a buffet table of backs to stab lol
there you go
