How do I check my current version of Mass Effect to see if I need these patches?

I just bought Mass Effect for the PC off Steam. I wanted to check my current version to see if I needed to download the patches found here. Steam is supposed to auto-update my game but I wanted to double check.

Also, when I registered ME it took me to the EA site instead of social.bioware where I registered Mass Effect 2. Why are ME 1 and ME 2 on different sites? How do I check user entitlements for ME 1 then?

Thanks in advance.

The version can be found in the configuration utility under 'game'.

ME1 goodies are on a different site because social.bioware.com was created after Mass Effect's release.

Steam neglects to put in an icon for the config utility, so you will need to drill down to \\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect\\Binaries and run MassEffectConfig.exe

If you got it off Steam, and especially if you just bought it off Steam, I think you can be confident you have 1.02

This site was only launched starting with Dragon Age, and Bioware didn't give it any backward compatibility with their old systems. So, you have to use the old forums, which were the only ones in town when ME1 was released. Kepha's sticky has the links and instructions if you're not sure how to go about getting your BDTS key.
