With regards to this debate that seems to have sprung from out of the blue regarding the merits and faults of ME 2 compared to ME 1:
I understand the plight of ME 1 players. Hell, as one of them, I symphasise with what has occured regarding the narrative. There are inconsistancies, particularly, as has been outlined, the role and changes that have occured with Ash/Kaiden and Liara over the course of the narrative. But still, despite all of that, I think that as a game unto its own, ME 2 is ok - not brilliant or ground-breaking, but still its a fairly good game.
I think that now Bioware has managed to improve on much of the gameplay elements, they should be able to return to the narrative and, God willing, be able to tie this up to the satisfaction of players from ME 1 and ME 2. I know there are some signs that this speculativly may not be the case, but I think it would be a really big mistake if ME 3 throws most of the the preceeding plot more or less out of the window (worse case scenario).
Unfortunately, until we have further infomaion later this year or early next, we cannot be entirely certain.
My apologies if I have stepped on anyones toes with the above.^
