Uhhh, sorry to be off topic but...

KoP! That's not TIM! WTF is wrong with you??? I don't even--

Ahem. [Insert argument]

That's TIM's twin brother, David Xanatos!

Plus, I now have a goatee and a similar hairstyle, so I figured I should have a more appropriate avatar Posted Image

That new avatar just reinforces my idea that you are an evil mastermind. And makes me question my inclusion in the KoP fanclub. Hmmmm... -revises theories-

[insert Alistair/Loghain argument]

Technically, David Xanatos becomes a pseudo good guy in the Gargoyles series.

Plus, he is just as badass as TIM.

So this is your role model....hmm. I regret never having watched Gargoyles before after seeing this.

Imagine a Universe with The Illusive Man and Xanatos....now that would be intriguing.

The question is: would they be on the same side? If so, they would inevitable conquer the universe. If not...they may very well destroy it...

They would certainly join forces against the Reapers. Neither of them is a fool.

"Laughs" Need Shepard? Xanatos is a badass fighter as it is. He would deal with the Collectors well enough. That is assuming the two of them don't take control of the entire Galaxy.

Well they'd still probably bring him back from the dead just because they can - and possibly also for the lulz - so they'd need to do SOMETHING with him.

Gargoyles was awesome as it is. Xanatos just makes it ten times more awesome.
I like Goliath (the main protagonist), but I always lol when Xanatos owns him, both physically and verbally, aka every time they meet.

In some ways, David Xanatos is more impressive than TIM, only because of 2 tvtropes being named after him. The Xanatos Gambit and the Xanatos Roulette.
But maybe TIM will reveal more of his awesomeness.

Haha I didn't actually know about those. I think Xanatos broke a record of how many tropes are named after him, correct?

I'm not sure. Other Xanatos mentions are Xanatos Planned This Index and Hoist By His Own Petard is also called Xanatos Backfire.

Everyone knows that the Xanatos Gambit is one of the flagship posts in Tvtrope. And when some fools suggested a change of name, a huge consensus was in favor of keeping the Xanatos Gambit name because it's that damn iconic. That's how utterly badass Xanatos is.

Are you a troper, KoP? I thought Lady Aeducan was the only other troper on here.

Apparently so. Hmmm, is Xanatos so awesome that I would mention him, not even knowing what they show was? Hmmm....

And I would never call you a bad person for being able to to stick to your guns, even if it made someone you care about angry.  God knows I am incredibly stubborn and have done that enough times in my life.  But for me there is a difference between angering someone and hurting them.

I see the particular confrontation with Alistair as being extremely hurtful to him and he reacts by being both betrayed and angry.  Maybe we don't see his reaction in quite the same ways, and thus is affects our decisions and rationales.  I understand and accept that.  I can rp that way, too, but for me personally, it's not my default way of thinking.

Did I explain better?  Tricky thing about the internet is that it can be so much harder to articulate a point a view and misunderstandings happen.

Edit:  Typos, bleh.

I perfectly understand your way of thinking, and I was influenced by that too, but there are limits for me.

At the risk of repeating myself, my canon ending is my Cousland married to Anora, but that carried little emotional charge for me. I roleplayed my Cousland to believe that to be the best outcome, but it held little emotional win. I was really giving up on a nice game romance for a job relationship, in the interest of the country.

Even with the marriage arrangment, I was very near to cave into Alistair and kill Loghain, but I tried to argue it with him. It's then when he lost me. When he demands the crown to be able to kill Loghain, even if he knew I wanted to give it to Anora and he hadn't objected before.

As much as I cared for him, and didn't wish to hurt him, there is simply no way I would gamble with the future of the whole Kingdom, just to let him have his vengeance. It really made me see myself standing on the edge of a moral abyss, to even consider it.

This is not claiming Alistair can't be great King too. It's just saying that if I roleplay a character who thinks Anora is the best person on the throne, then I can't let personal issues rule the whole Kingdom that way. What kind of person would that make me?

I accepted the heart break and let my friend go.

I truly do think if you rp a genuine, deep relationship with Alistair, that it is damn near impossible to justify siding with Loghain against him.  If others can offer very good reasons why a character in love with or best friends with Alistair would do that, I would love to hear them.  I know the terribleness we had to go through in the Alistair gush thread to create a valid rp story for a PC in love with Alistair to execute him, and I doubt very much many people play a character like that.

My current PC (Female elf mage) recruited Loghain in spite of being in Love with Alistair.

She did so because she still admires - or even adores - the Hero of River Dane, though she disagrees with what Loghain did afterwards, and she thinks he deserves a chance to do things right.

However, she thinks that Loghain did what he thought best. Considering that she helped Jowan because she thought it was the right thing to do, and stood by this decision even after it turned out he was really a bloodmage, she can´t really blame Loghain for doing wrong things if he acts as he judges best according to his conscience and limited knowledge.

She also made Alistair marry Anora because from what little an elven mage understands of politics she got the impression that this is the best thing for Ferelden.

She hoped Alistair would understand her reasons (and, forgive me a little metagaming, from what I read on the forums he eventually does) and wouldn´t feel betrayed by her, for that was really not her intention.

When he broke up with her she was sad, and she can´t understand him, but she accepts it, and she thinks that not only did Alistair not really know her but she, too, is disappointed by Alistair. She had expected his love to be stronger and, being a very non-conventional girl, she can´t understand why a king can´t have an affair with her.

In the end, however, she will just move on and not stay in Denerim as chancellor (what she had planned). Instead, she will travel with her other lovers Zevran or Leliana (yes, she doesn´t value monogamy:wub:)

I do have a human noble who will spare Loghain despite being in love with Alistair. Their relationship is anything but puppies and rainbows for she already sided with the Templars and killed Isolde. He will probably ask himself why he is even attracted to a stubborn, pragmatic woman like her. ;-) She won't plan on making him king because she thinks Anora will do fine. She's the GW type who gives up name and title and doesn't think Alistair can be king and a Warden. Hardened Alistair will not be happy about her plans ... especially when she considers Riordan's suggestion a moment too long. Alistair will try to grab the throne, she will object and choose Anora, save his life and let him go. And she will be furious at him for trying to grab the throne and for leaving and at herself for not being able to foresee this. She should have, she knew him. Everything will go well without him and she will still wonder why she didn't simply off Loghain. It's not like she is the merciful kind or appreciated him, he simply seemed useful and he was, but he never seemed to genuinely regret what he had done.

I also roleplayed my other human noble like this. She and Alistair had a big fight about the Landsmeet, about if a GW can be king and what to do with Loghain and Anora. She let Alistair fight, he ignored the rules of the duel, she made him king anyway ... and made herself queen to his genuine surprise. Both will accept the outcome but she will always wonder if killing Loghain was the right thing to do.

It's also my way to ensure that my Warden is no Mary Sues. I love to side against them (and ignore that she is adressed only, I pretend they ackowledge that there are two Wardens who are supported by their party).
They go to the tower and rescue everyone? You were lucky, it was a high risk. Nothing to celebrate.
They use blood magic? What kind of person are you? Isolde may have caused a lot of trouble but who are you to sacrifice her?

My Mage spared Loghain because he was not about to murder someone in cold blood, just to appease someone.

My Noble spared Loghain because he believed in redemption, and giving people the chance to redeem themselves, aka Sten, Leliana, Zevran, Shale, Oghern.

My City Elf killed him for what he did to her family, while my Dwarf Commenor killed him, just to be safe, aka Leske you tratorius nug!

While my Dwarf Noble spared him because it was practical, and gaining allies was what he needed, and besides Loghain gained his respect for lasting as long in that fight.\\

Every charachter has their own personality and decides in that situation, although Alistair telling them he wants the throne to kill Loghain (douchey) or saying me or him drove them all a little dingy.
