although Neverwinter Nights is the only BioWare game where the protagonist isn't innately special.

Well, the DA character is only special because of things that happen to him. You don't start special, except in the sense that you're promising. I consider it equivalent to SoU/ HotU in that regard, since you also become special over the course of that adventure -- strictly speaking, in the course of the "bridge module."

Going to antiva or orlais would be very good places to start.

They really should expand the origins for humans.

Would like to change countries and such.

Since magi have been the #1 annoyance in this game in term of battles, it might be good to make them the villain.

Would like to be able to at least save the face of your DAO character if you cant import him in storywise.Maybe get a couple of bonus books for doing it.

I partly agree. With DA it's a bit muddled. There are some origins where you are kind of special. Namely, Human Noble, Magi, and Dwarven Noble. Then there are others where you are not. That's why I skipped DA. It's a bit of both. I get what you mean though.

I don't see how they could continue with the same character and make it even remotely plausible. Option number one would be to continue where you left off, but the fact is that by the time I finished Awakenings my character was pretty close to a god. Tacking another 20+ levels onto that for DA2? That would be ridiculous. The only alternative would be to have it be the same character, but use some sort of semi-lame plot device to have him start over on level 1. Which would be silly.

I'd much rather start out with a new character in (and this is what I think will happen) a different part of the world, meeting different NPCs and having different adventures. Occasionally there would be stories of the famous Grey Warden of Ferelden who stopped the Blight and possibly died heroically. Hell, I'll bet good money we get to see Morrigan as a non-recruitable NPC.

Depends solely on what they want to do with the story.

I think having origins such as chevalier orlesian commoner and noble would be nice for a story in orlais.

Have Orlais nobles trying to retake ferelden and starting a new war.

Good writers could fill in the blanks then around the end you can meet your character that you exported and fight him with your new character.*because i assume if there is a war your legendary character will go try to win the war...maybe...if your character is following morrigan another reason to go to orlais.Details il leave to the people who write for bioware.

I support this idea.

Importing an old character to the next game is always welcomed, though it can cause huge continuity issues, or doesn't live up to the expectations.

Yea, I want to play as my character in DA2. I want to be able to resolve the problems I made or see what happens due to my decesions

Though, knowing BioWare, they'd probably come up with a way to find a "taint cure" and magically remove all consequence from the game's story, because fanboys get too ****y when people die.

Yep.  And BW already has the framework for a possible "cure" (if they decide to go in that direction) with Avernus' research at Warden's Keep (that is, if you decided to spare him).

No, I'd rather DA2 be a different main character with a different story focus in a different part of the world.

Also, I'm not sure the game's mechanics have anywhere to really go. By the end of the game, you've pretty much hit the peak of power progression.

Maybe a bit of both?
Import your Dragon Age character to 2 and play with them at the beginning (or middle or end, whatever) doing something that's obviously important but you just can't figure out what, cutscene ensues and then it switches to a different person? Seems abrupt but I think that could work done right.

Or maybe you just import your character, bringing alone the choices you made into 2, while playing as someone else but occasionally see cutscenes of your own Warden from the first game doing important stoof with old teammates (ex. Alistair, Zevran or Leliana most likely imo.) but have no idea what they are doing.
Whatever happens in Dragon Age 2 is a good a guess anyone can take, they really left it open for many things. :D

We are not going to play a Warden in Dragon Age 2, the devs have already said that the next game will be far removed from blights, darkspawn, the taint, and even Ferelden. There is no point in continuing with the Warden, we may get another expansion in Febuary with the Warden but that is going to be it I think.

They did this for Dreamfall: The Longest Journey as a means of introducing a new character....worked pretty well...

I hope we get to play a new PC with no import. The warden's story is finished and I'd like a fresh start with other characters.

They can tell many different stories and clinging to the same char would only hurt that imo. Besides DA isn't meant to be a trilogy with the same character like ME.

I prefer a new game in Thedas, not another Awakening-style pseudosequel with lousy import.

Just because the next game will be removed from Ferelden, darkspawn etc does not mean that the Warden will not be the PC, there is life and adventure beyond the Blight.

IMO the Wardens story has not been concluded very satisfactorily and I would like some closure on it.  I'm happy for that to be delivered by expansion or DA2  I will be dissappointed if the Wardens story is left as it is.

I also have no interest in another blight, and little for Orlais (too close to ferelden) - I'd prefer Somewhere further North, Antiva or the Islands where the Qunari live.

If there is no Blight, then there is no point in playing as the GW. Grey Wardens fight Darkspawn. Sure, you went around battling Loghain, and helping the mages, but at the end of the day, you were doing all of that to build an army to fight the Darkspawn.

Whats the excuse for the Grey Wardens to fight Qunari? Because they feel like it?

Who says you have to play a Grey Warden?

To be honest I think it WILL come down to another Blight and you playing a GW. But personally I would prefer it if you could just play as someone else.

Of course. But both me and Giggles were arguing against importing and in favor of new characters and a new protagonist.

I like the idea of being able to choose your origins. I really enjoyed the starting quests, espcially the human noble and city elf origins. Perhaps for DA2 the possibility of having new origins and maybe your original character from DA could be a possible origin?

I love my DA:O characters and all, but I think it's time to move on. I want a new character (who isn't a Warden) with new origins to explore.

Well, DA:O was the battle of the 5th of 7 Blights, so there is room for 2 more of those.

But I also like the ideas of going to other continents in Ferelden. Orlais would be interesting, as would a sojourn to Par Vollen and Seheron and the Qunari peoples.

***spoiler***

And of course we still don't know what became of Morrigan and her 'spawn'
