I read only the first and half of the second page of this, so sorry if this was already mentioned. For me, personally, I would like to see them somehow continue my Warden's story, letting me import them, but also be given the opportunity to make a completely new character. However, from my experiences, I think it will go to the same way Awakening did. (Sorry for anyone who may consider this a spoiler) How, in Awakening, if you DIDN'T import your character, it completely made a mockery of the storyline and they had a horrible background, not to mention continuence. "Hey, I'm some random Warden here to take over. Wassup, homies? :D" Where as compared to the champion who saved all of Ferelden after defeating the Archdemon? Yeah, I'll take the latter of the two, thanks. I think that, given there is a second one, it will be much of the same way, if not vice-versa. Meaning, if you don't create a new character, things don't make much sense. Just from a spectator's point of view, however. Additionally, I'm just happy with the thought of a "DA2". That's enough to keep me satisfied, as long as they don't butcher it, but I have high hopes for the game, despite the fact them being swayed after Awakening.

lol @ mentioning decisions from the first game.

People sure enjoyed that from Awakenings, didn't they? They loved it so much they were on the boards complaining and whiiining about how it was poorly done/not enough.

Just like Mass Effect 2.

I can just see the whining when the Dark Ritual is finally confirmed as canon. ZOMGBBG WHAT WAS THE POINT OF HAVING CHOICES! ITS EA AT WORK AGAIN!

Sure, just like in Mass Effect. It worked just fine there.

except in ME you died and came back to life and heard your decisions lol
Dragon age is way more story then masseffect so it could work.
would be funny if you ran into morrigan again after your character from DAO died and romance her with your new character.
;):?

(I don't think there are any spoilers but if you're squeamish about such things please avert your gaze)

I think its kind of funny that people throw fits about when your decisions don't make that big a difference when you upload it cause Bioware is like the only game company that even gives you that option. I feel that they revolutionized rpgs and in a few years that is gonna be common practice.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. I would like them to let me upload my character and maybe my reason is different then others (I must admit I didn't read all the posts so I don't know), but I have become super attached to my City Elf. I think she is the coolest pretend person ever and I would love to play as her again. Even if they had to get rid of all her talents or what not, that would be fine, as long as I get to play her.

Bioware is just so great at evoking an emotional response in their games. They have created such dynamic characters and difficult choices that you can actually see your voiceless character take shape and develop a personality of their own. I think that if they spent all that time to do that then they should let it matter and let us carry our character to the next game.

If the infinite amount of decision outcomes are a problem then they should maybe just have reference to it, (we don't have to go back to Orzammar maybe to that other Thaig they said still exists), or a small side quest. I feel that its possible.

As for the Dark Ritual thing.... Morrigan and Flemeth are witches, and I'm sure that they could find a way to get what they want even if the Grey Warden says no. So if they decided for that to be canon, and I wouldn't be suprised if they did, I'd still play the game. But then I did the Dark Ritual so it won't matter for me.

The Dark Ritual (if they have it matter) is one reason I feel they should have the character carry over. There would be this huge reveal with Morrigan and it would mean nothing because you are a different character who doesn't have the emotional investment. For me, I befriend Morrigan so I'm looking forward to calling her out on her back-stabbing.

Finally, I think it would be cool if they let us upload but also had a few new origins (Qunari, Chasind, Apostate, Maybe new versions of the old ones). But we should all keep in mind that the first Dragon Age was called Dragon Age: ORIGINS.... maybe the next one will be called Dragon Age: Upload Your Old Characters :) .

They should give the option to save faces and transfer them.

If they gave it to the PC i would like it for console.

I feel the same.. Bioware have a proven ability to personalise gamers with their PC experience by the complex interactions they offer with the NPCs. You choose the PC's appearance, voice, story backround, your friends, the context of the relationship with those friends, intricate moral decisions which significantly affect the current story as well as the story of the next installment... Not to mention those personal loose ends I mentioned earlier... And as you say... because it has an "emotional investment," there is greater momentum (from a storytelling perspective) being carried over to the sequel. I think this would thereby prove to be an interesting motivation for the gamer (to want the option of character import) to solve the problems that are directly related to his/her PC...

yes-

to me, i think i have so much invested in the character i consider my "main" char, i don't think i would even bother with da2 if you couldn't port your char.

-

the main competition bieng fallout new vegas coming out this fall-

fallout 3 i played for a year, da2 would HAVE to be made to order for me to have any hope of competeing with that.

using an existing char i spent time already on as opposed to creating a whole new warden and background and such is something that would attract me, also the notion of the game not bieng "just anothe rgame in the da2 universe" and its actually a continuation with respect to what i did before in the game goes a LONG way with me.

not only would the char have to be ported i think, but all my past decisions relevant and not "toyed" with.

Ie: who i put on the throne STAYS there and doesn't give some kakamaime excuse that they abdicated.

my DOG is a playable char with the same name, the fates of the party members are not fudged (and were what they were in dao) and the fates of the chars in awekenings are respected and the romance option is respected.

as well as who i made the dwarven king, etc.

basically dao set a high bar here, if da2 doesn't meet it, i'll stick with killing radscorpions in a post nuclear vegas.

they also need to improve the face gen.
