Why?

They are the most "mascarado" players  in the world. And with Uruguayans, they used to be the dirtiest too... spitting on your face, kicking you when you have no ball near you... without getting caught of course, just try and make you lose it and hit them but you get caught doing it.

Gladly, lots of tv cameras and this super slo-mo changed it through the years but they are still vicious if they have the chance.

Some people hate on the English team for no reason as well. Or on random ones. I was in Thailand during one match in 06 and the locals wanted Sweden to lose because they were "whiter" than the other team @.@



I personally like how Argentina plays. They play. I don't like the teams that sit on the back and wait for the others to make a mistake so they get a lucky goal based on how fast you run. But this trend is increasing and that kills a lot of good players. Brazil for example loses a lot of shine when the rival has 11 people on their half.

As for Argentina, I would say Germany look better, but Australia may have made them look VERY good, so its a hard one to call until we see them again, but agree Argentina look good, they are my bet to win it.

Regardless, it is the truth! Why did European Champions refused to come so South America in the '60s and '70s to play the club world title, a number of times? They never refused to come to Brazil but of course Brazil had way less continental titles then, specially considering what used to happen in the matches of Lebertadores Cup at that time.

When TV started playing a part in keeping the game fair, Brazil started to win Libertadores Cup many times over.

Most teams play better when a team 'plays' against them. Its just easier to play when they are attacking and giving you space. Its no big secret. Great teams have to be as good at grinding teams down as they are at playing free flowing attacking football.

Rage that's 30 years ago... Not really observable now by any means. They are a team just as any other, and as mariab said everyone cheats. It's a fact. Us players had UK players by their wrists, Argentineans and nigerians had each other in bear hugs, we even saw red cards in the first game. I don't think there is a clear foul player amongst the teams.
