I think I finally understand the offside rule! If that black guy touches the ball, then it's offside, right?...

EDIT: For my own sake I'd just like to say that is not a joke I came up with.

I think they have just added that rule "When the ball comes within 4 feet of him just blow for offside to stop him from embarrassing himself." Its like the rule that allows France to handle the ball if things arent quite going their way.

RB, if it was not a joke, then know that to give a fair stance to the teams and avoid that one player stays on the line of the goal all the time to receive the ball and score, the offside rule states that "at the time of the pass there must be at least two players of the defending team between the most forwarding attacker and the goal".

It does not need to be the goalkeeper +1. If the keeper leave to intercept, for instance and there is only one player of his team between the attacker and the goal and he receives the ball and scores, it is offside, like it did happened in Mexico's match. (if there were 2 defenders and no goalkeeper, it would not be offside)

Being on the same line as the last defender (assuming the keeper is in his place) plays for the attacker. Being 1 inch ahead, it is offside. At the time of the passing, not when he receives the ball.

And there must be an action by this player in offside position towards the ball or interfering with the play or the offside is not called. Like Brazil X Holand in '94 when Romario was offside but the ball went to Bebeto who wasn't and Romario made no attempt to go for the ball.

Well, can't tell where you're from by your profile info so I assumed you're an American with little knowledge of futbol rule's! :innocent:

Don't say bad things about Americans! We have midfielders who are so awesome English keepers drop easy saves just to try to be our friends.

Lol. I'm actually having a laugh seeing US news spin the math as a great victory for the US because they could tie with England. Silly, good teams lose and tie against very inferior teams in footbal all the time. It's just how the game is: there is always a chance for a surprise.

England played better, the goal keeper messed up big time

It's not a bad thing and not that innacurate. Most Americans don't give a FF about soccer, ain't that right? It's good to see the increasing number of people interested on the game though. At least that's the impression it passes. I cheered for the USA.  I imagine that when they eventually win a FIFA's World Cup, celebrations will take over the streets of the country, like it does on any winning country's streets over the world.

I've also heard that Green will change the name to Red on next match. Out of shame of course!

BTW, I'm impressed with Nigeria's and USA's goalkeepers! Julio César will have to work hard to keep the best keeper title!

Poor Green. A field player can do many mistakes, but one great pass or shot, and everything is well. One mistake as a keeper, and you are the idiot. That said, it's quite strange that England hasn't produced a world class keeper in decades.

Valdir Perez was a great goalkeeper, one of the best in Brazil ever. That mistake on our 1982's first match against Russia (you can see in in YT) marked his career forever. And Brazil came back to win the match! That was a "chicken with all the feathers" as we say. =)

This tournament sucks so far. 1-0, 1-1, 0-1... what's this, the Italian competition? It's about time Brazil & Germany come to kick some butts.

I think its to do with the youth system, its the same here. Kids spend years playing competitive matches where they might rarely be tested or rarely touch the ball when they should be developing their skills.

I heard somewhere that in Holland they dont play competitively until they are around 13 they spend the years before that working on their skills and understanding of the game. Not sure just how accurate that is but it was on some report on how to improve the standard of youth training in Scotland I think. Cant even remember what program I saw it on. Theres the possibility I imagined the whole thing.....

Slovenia is first in the team. Perhaps not for long, perhaps they didn't earn it, but hell, it's their first victory in any WC... their second in fact!

Germany vs. Australia tonight and Serbi vs. Ghana now incase your missing it.

Anyone else starting to feel drained watching this? Between the boring defensive games and the vuvuzela's I have been feeling tired after the final game each day like it was a chore to watch them. No one seems to be taking any risks and attacking yet.

Know exactly what you mean Druss, I went to bed early last night, was weary lol....

I think the excitement will really start in the second round of group games....a draw is no good to anyone then....they will need to go out an win...

I think then we shall start seeing some good games.

True. I think there's too much pressure to avoid being sent home after the groups phase.

This is kind of like watching 2 drunks fighting in a puddle. Both of them have given the other chances to deliver the knock out blow, but both of them also seem incapable of taking those chances.
