Why would anyone want to ignore the latest book?

1) "A Feast for Crows" is a part of the ongoing story.
2) "A Feast for Crows" furthers the story.
3) "A Feast for Crows" is just as well-written as the previous books.

I feel he got bogged down by writing chapters about new viewpoint characters that are unimportant and don't further the story. In the whole book Brienne accomplished nothing but wandering aroundPosted Image and I also don't see why we need whole chapters about incidents happening on the Iron islands.

I know Martin is busy and everything but it's been 5 years since the Feast AND he had at least half of the next book finished 5 years ago when he decided to split it and publish Feast. There were only 2 or 3 year gaps between previous books. I'm starting to wonder if we're ever gonna see the next one Posted Image

shut up troll.

the latter link is an interview with Laidlaw...

The moral of that story is "think before you flame."  Thanks for posting those interview links.  Very interesting stuff I hadn't read before.

I never read the books, I've never been a fantasy reader (although the hubby is an avid fantasy reader, goes through a book a week, I swear!). But all the talk on here inspired me to give them a shot. I bought Game of Thrones yesterday, and really like it so far! Granted, I only had time for 30 pages....lol. But the prologue got me instantly. Hopefully I'll enjoy the rest of it and the other books as well.

Mel, that's really not that surprising ;) aSoIaF is more like historical fiction set in a fantasy world, rather than strict fantasy. Glad you're enjoying so far!

I really enjoyed The Wheel of Time series, and appreciated Dragon Age drawing ideas from it (I stopped at The Fires of Heaven, though. If you don't have the time and mental fortitude to make it through Jordan's books- just put them down until you can fully concentrate.)

I'm really interested in this series, though. I saw the preview for "The Game of Thrones" on HBO last night before True Blood came on. I may have to go pick up the first book today and read through it. I'm an avid fantasy reader so anything that's in that genre is immediately picked up for entertainment.

to be honest, i spent the better part of 15 minutes trying to dig up those links... a close friend told me about a game of thrones (and passed me his copy) since he knew i love dragon age.

i thought i heard it in one of the developer interviews and had to look through the bonus disc to find it..

anyway being right feels good :) and makes all the time digging worth it, hhehee.

Already read them Posted Image  They were technically the first "fantasy" novels I've ever read.

I started to read A Game of Thrones and, at the time, I wasn't in the mood for relentlessly grim, which is how I found them. I have them all at home, though, and I might give AGoT another go later this summer.

AGoT is still okay... at least a few parts were still light... i'm finishing up clash of kings and that is terribly grim...

They are grim, but Martin is such a damn fine storyteller.  Most writers put a twist into the end of the book.  He puts in many of them.  I continually ask myself how I didn't see that coming.

One of the things I'm amazed at is the fact that he can make such interesting bit players.  You actually care about the little people, not just the main characters.  Like I'm following Gregor Clegane right now (don't tell me how it ends!) and I'm wondering how I can simultaneously hate him and be rooting for him.
