Help making a "go fetch" quest

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the toolset so making even a basic "go fetch this and bring it back" quest is confusing for me -- was wondering if anyone could help me understand how to make a simple plot whereby your character is told to (1) get an item <x>, (2) make it so when you find that special item<x>, the plot flag is updated to indicate that you found it so you can bring it back to the NPC. 

So far, I know how to make the 3 plot flags through the wiki tutorial, but can't figure out the two above.  Many thanks for any help!

Several of these projects by Sunjammer are to help builders by giving you a builder to builder load - you get areas, scripts, items, everything you need. They have helped me immensely. The Fedex one (Deep Roads Courier) fits your expressed need fairly well.

Hey Sonmeister. Actually that Fedex script by SunJammer is fairly complicated. It involves receiving an item from 1 NPC, having the item go directly into your inventory, bringing it to someone else, then going back to the 1st NPC to get the reward. I just want the hero to find the plot item elsewhere (like in a barrel or something), then having the condition be that the reward is only given if the hero has the quest item in his/her inventory. Got any suggestions? Thanks!

Take the time to go to this site http://www.silentcid.com/main/ and watch all of his videos on using the toolset if you haven't already. I'd suggest just trying to copy his instructions as you go.

You should essentially learn what you're asking in the progression of learning the toolset.



What you want is actually more what Sunjammer's Joe Versus the Brecilian is except you are gathering 3 items that you are asked to go find. It also teaches you how to use defined plot flags along with main flags so you can gather some items and update your plot as you go. You're best bet is to examine the scripts against the plots in each scenario and try to break them down. If you check out all of my posts you'll see my progression as I've asked about scripts and you can learn quite a bit just from that. My first posts were about learning scripts to do exactly what you are wanting and has progressed to much more.

Thanks Sonmeister. I got the quest to work on my own since I last posted, with the minor inconvenience of the '!' mark above the NPC never going away for some reason hehe. Lots to learn. I will check out that url and wade in the pool first instead of diving in as I have. Again, many thanks!

SetPlotGiver(oNPC, FALSE);
