I'm working on a small project where I add an area to the world map.

Here I'm going to put a few characters and have some fun dialog options but I thought I would post this and see if anyone can offer any advice or help in this.

I followed the tutorial found here: http://www.theengine...cation-tutorial

But I'm finding that the area does not always show up on the world map.

What I'm adding in is sort of similar to a DLC where a new area is added with characters, etc in that area and you can travel to it via the world map.

I'll be poking around the forums to see if there are an posts along these lines.

Feel free to just drop me the link to the thread if there is one you know about. ^_^

Thanks!

When you say it "does not always show up," what do you mean? Does it ever come back after disappearing? Have you been able to use it successfully at least once?

If it seems to disappear after export, I suggest you check your .map file to ensure that it's still pointing at the world map. That seems to be the most common cause of disappearance, at least for me. A second hint is to start your path from a spot that is active (i.e. not Lothering) during the major campaign.  I had all kinds of map problems until I changed my path start from Lothering to Brecilian Outskirts.

FWIW, I used the second tutorial you mention and found it very helpful.

Billhoyt, thanks for the reply and seeking clarification. My brain was hazy yesterday but I can be more specific now.

What I had originally done was create an area that can be traveled to from the world map. I used an existing level (the one that is used for the random encounters and such) as the place. I basically reused that map file but its not tied to the ones already in the game with the items and quests and such.

What I mean about it not showing up on the world map is this:

When I first made it and exported it, it showed up just fine and I could travel to it. The starting waypoint worked and I could leave it and go back to the world map just fine.

The second time I tried to travel to the place it didn't show up on the world map so I exited the map menu and loaded it again (when the world map shows up when you walk your character to an exit waypoint). This time the map came up and only my area was on the map.

Reloading the map again brought back the regular map without my area and then reloading the map again had just my area and no other places. (This was all in game without doing anything to the files as of yet, I was testing it to see if it was consistent.)

At this point I redid adding my area to the world map according to the second tutorial and I am going to test it this afternoon (I'm downloading the new dlc right now so I'll have to wait to see if this second method of world map linking worked.)

I'll keep my progress posted here as I go along.
