I have played that Orgin a ton of times and I never realized you had the option to fight Trian. May have to try. But I am not that much of a mascohist, so no nightmare solo for me.
Toughest fight in the game – Trian!

Yah the deepstalkers are nasty, especially with the risk of being overpowered. It's definitely possible to lure them, but once you lure one you should start running, because if you fight it just around the corner from the others they tend to cotton on and join the fight.

If soteria is reading this thread - I'd love to see a no-potion, no-exploit vid of the Trian fight!

That will not work - You have to bait Soteria more. Tell him he can not do it, that he is wrong no matter what. Keep at it. I find that Soteria will respond more once you call him (or her? sorry do not know) out. Say your point is right no matter what.
Ahh, well should not have a couple of beers and post here. No hard feelings - right? Even though I do think Trian is really hard - never do it with out potions or a mage.......

Damn, I didn't know the DN could fight Trian either. I always tell Behlen to wait, and see what Trian does. If I ever make another DN, I will have to try fighting Trian!

Rofl! No, I wasn't reading this thread; I stopped after about the first five posts when I realized I had never actually done that fight. Only did dwarf noble once, and I was a more "noble" noble than that. I might take that challenge, but no promises that it will be any time soon. I'm taking a vacation soon, and I also just started a no-pause, no-tank run as part of an effort to do a "setting up tactics" vid. Fight videos are easy to do, but the concept ones (like the spell combos one) are a lot harder to do.

I made a DW dwarf commoner warrior and it was the easiest play through I had ever had. Managed to complete the game without the main character dying and even killed Cauthrien before the Landsmeet.

Aight, I did it. I just went with 2h warrior, though; would you prefer I do it with a rogue before uploading the video? It won't be very interesting... four level 1 characters killing a bunch of level 1 enemies doesn't make for fights with a lot of depth in tactics.

Great! Well, my character was a dw rogue so that would be most comparable but I don't expect a 2h warrior is any stronger. Not much choice in tactics, indeed, which is why it seemed hopeless on nightmare. Extreme kiting feels too exploit-ish and a bit of tactical postioning didn't help. Just standing my ground came the closest but Sun Tzu would not be impressed...
Hoarding the four health poultices could be enough to tip the scales.
@Relshar - Yes, a dw rogue is awesome eventually, especially once you have master stealth. But at level 2, not so much.

Try this link. If that doesn't work for you or you want to see it with a rogue, I can do that, but it'll be take a couple weeks as I'll be away. The "strategy" such as it is was just to set tactics for my party so they're working in pairs. My 2h warrior plus Gorim killed the guards while the two soon-to-be-traitors took Trian down. I didn't analyze the fight in great detail, but I suspect the key to success was using the pillars to reduce the effectiveness of the enemy archers.

Cool, thanks. Pommel strike was handy but my rogue had dirty fighting. Two on Trian and two on archers seems the key - that matches with Elhanan's win with a S&S warrior (which I think is a somewhat stronger character at that level). Tricky to use the pillars to hide from archers while attacking another enemy - it seems like a random benefit if the foe happens to stand in the right place to be able to do that. I had all four of my guys attack the same enemy but in retrospect we got in each other's way so I lost time positioning. A seemingly little difference but crucial.
As an added bonus, the vid was prefaced by a Veet commerical, so now I know how to make my skin rose petal smooth.

Haha... didn't feel like editing and using youtube for such a short video. Yeah, I'm a big proponent of splitting damage in an all-melee group. The advantages of dropping individual enemies is outweighed, in my mind, by the disadvantages of the inevitable cluster and shuffling. As for using the pillars, I only speculate. Trian was running around a lot, as you observed in your fight, which probably had a side effect of forcing enemy archers to reposition more often as well, reducing incoming damage. At that level, there are a large number of small factors that make the difference, and sometimes it's just luck.
