 Hello

Played ME 1 on 360 for a very short while 12 months ago and have now purchased both ME 1 and 2 for the PC.

I would like to know if ME 1 supports EAX, or if it requires Alchemy to do so?

I assume as it uses OpenAL that Alchemy will not be needed for 5.1 sound ?

I have not installed it yet (I have that  planned for later this week as I have a week off and intend to play the ME 1 on the weekend), and was hoping to benefit from the wisdom of others before dealing with the oft nightmare that is Creative Alchemy. So is there anyone with a creative card that has EAX and 5.1 sound working under alchemy and VISTA/Windows 7 ?

If so what Alchemy settings were used ?

Also is there any problems with Windows 7 and Mass Effect 1 ?

Finally is there anyone who specifically has a Creative USB X-Fi 5.1 sound card and has it working with EAX and 5.1 Sound, in Mass Effect 1 ?

Thanks to those who take the time to read, and hopefully reply.

You should not need ALchemy, since the game uses the Unreal engine 3, which uses OpenAL. ALchemy is just an OpenAL Wrapper to translate EAX to OpenAL.

Thankyou,

I knew it was a wrapper for OpenAL used to interpret DIrect3D calls that were no longer handled due to the removal of HAL in Vista/Windows 7.

I was aware that 5.1 sound can only be enacted in Direct3D games using Alchemy (due to HAL removal), but I was unsure about EAX.

Does this mean that EAX will work without Alchemy (as implied by your post) on any OpenAl game ?

Thanks for your reply

Yes i can confirm that - EAX will work without Alchemy, i have W7 x64, X-Fi Prelude 7.1 and ME1 & ME2 and EAX & HW Sound - works fine with my 6.1 sound system via Optical Digital connection with amplituner (S/PDIF).
