I, like many PS3 users, was shocked to find that I was
unable to listen to the DA:O soundtrack provided with the Collector's Edition
of the game. The soundtrack is included on the Bonus Disc, but the disc
instructs you to play the soundtrack via your PC. Well, the disc is a Bluray disc,
and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a PS3 for Bluray, not a PC (nevermind
that the PS3 won't read the audio on the Bluray...). I wasn't able to find out
anything about this by searching online, so I went to EA's live chat, and
here's what I found out:
Rick: Hi, my name is Rick. How may I help you?
Me: I have a question about Dragon Age: Origins
Rick: Please go ahead.
Me: I purchased the PS3 Collector's Edition of Dragon Age:
Origins, and I have a problem with the bonus disc. It tells that the soundtrack
is available on the bonus disc, but when I access it through my PS3, it tells
me to put the disc into my computer to access/download the soundtrack. However,
the disc is a Bluray disc, and because I (like most people) don't have a Bluray
drive in my computer, I can't access the disc or the soundtrack. I'm wondering
what is being done about this, especially considering I spent an extra $15 on
this Collector's Edition, only to find problems like this.
Rick: We are aware of this problem happening with the
customer.
Rick: I apologize for the inconvenience. But the bonus tract
is only available in Blueray disk.
Me: So there's nothing that EA/Bioware is doing to
compensate their customers who they have ripped off with this?
Rick: I'm escalating your issue to our senior support for
further investigation.
Me: I'd like to speak to your supervisor please. This is
unacceptable.
Rick: Please wait
Rick: Hello **** this is Shawn, how may I assist you?
Me: Well, let me copy and paste what I wrote before:
Me: "I purchased the PS3 Collector's Edition of Dragon
Age: Origins, and I have a problem with the bonus disc. It tells that the
soundtrack is available on the bonus disc, but when I access it through my PS3,
it tells me to put the disc into my computer to access/download the soundtrack.
However, the disc is a Bluray disc, and because I (like most people) don't have
a Bluray drive in my computer, I can't access the disc or the soundtrack. I'm
wondering what is being done about this, especially considering I spent an
extra $15 on this Collector's Edition, only to find problems like this."
Rick: I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Me: I'm completely dumbfounded that there isn't some kind of
solution to this problem. Whether that be sending out a replacement DVD for the
PC-only features, or simply sending a download code for the soundtrack
separately.
Me: But to spend extra money on something and not find it
working, that's just unacceptable.
Rick: Please be aware that the bonus CD is only available in
the Blue Ray technology.
Me: So the PC version of the Collector's Edition comes with
a Bluray disc?
Rick: No the Bonus CD is only available with PS 3 version
only.
Me: Furthermore, the PS3 is a Bluray player, and it can't
even play the soundtrack. So you're telling me that I need to go out and buy a
Bluray player for my computer just to listen to this soundtrack?
Rick: As a goodwill for the company here is the EA Store $20
off Coupon - mdvziir49.
Rick: I'm sorry, but I can't help you further in this issue.
Me: I appreciate the goodwill; unfortunately, all I'm asking
for is the content I've already paid for. I don't feel like I should spend more
money on your store as a solution for a problem with your content, that I have
already spent my money on.
Rick: Is there anything further I may assist you with today?
Me: I would like you to assist me with the problem I have
already asked about.
Me: A download link to the soundtrack would be sufficient,
even though it wouldn't be on a disc.
Me: Anything but "go out and buy a bluray player for
your computer."
Rick: Please wait
Me: Because the soundtrack may be good, but it's not $200
good.
Rick: I'm sorry but there is no way to download the Sound
track.
Me: Well then, I expect you to ship me a CD/DVD-Rom version
of the disc that shipped with the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins, so that I
can access that content on my computer.
Rick: I'm sorry but the CD/DVD is not available for the
soundtrack.
Me: Well, clearly you are unwilling to assist me with this
matter. I'm appalled by this terrible customer service.
Me: I hope you realize how awful it is to charge your
customer $15 extra dollars for a product that will not work, and then wash your
hands of the matter.
Rick: I'm sorry that I'm not able to completely satisfy you.
But I can't do further in this issue.
Me: Clearly you can't "do further." I will be sure
to post this transcript online so that others will not be tricked into giving
you more money. Good day.
I'm posting this so that no one else has to sit through this
God-awful "customer service" program, and also so that anyone
thinking about getting the PS3 Collector's Edition for the soundtrack can think
again. I'm saddened that I spent an extra $15 and didn't receive what I paid
for. EA/Bioware should be ashamed of themselves.
P.S.: Feel free to use that $20 EA Store coupon - I
certainly am not going to use it.
