Its quite obvious that the majority of the people in this thread have only see anime like dragon ball z and naratu, there is amazingly well animated anime out there that is aimed at older audiences without the giant eyes and over the top hairstyles, this has the potential to be a very good movie.
I have to admit, I have never been fond anime, but I also admit, I haven't been exposed to anything other than the giant eyes and over the top hairstyles. Could name some artists or films I should see?

Akira, of course, is the first thing that comes to mind. Old, yes, but definitely not the "b-movie dialogue, spikey yellow hair and big eyes" kind of anime film. Bascially, just avoid most modern stuff. Anime today is... well... ****. It's all fan service and crappy, overdone storylines. Go back ten or twenty years, and you'll find some real gems.

DB/DBZ isn't really Modern...it came out around the same time as Akira...but I digress.
I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell, Jin Roh, along side Akira.

True, DB and DBZ aren't modern, but I wasn't really referring to those. Still, they aren't exactly intellectual masterpieces...
Off the top of my head, I can only think two recent anime shows that are worth watching: Darker than Black and Code Geass. Unfortunately, the second seasons of both lack the creative genius of the first seasons of both. A less modern, but not archaic, anime that's pretty damn decent would be Cowboy Bebop.
There's plenty of anime out there that is worth watching. Unfortunately, there is also a very large amount that isn't worth it. At all. Such is life...

- Ghost in the Shell (GitS movie, GitS: Innocence movie, Stand Alone Complex series, SAC: 2nd Gig, and the SAC movie, Solid State Society...great music, too)
- Jin-roh
- Blood The Last Vampire (didn't really like Blood+, tho')
- Now and Then, Here and There (I found this depressing, actually lol)
- Last Exile (steampunk-ish anime w/ an epic feel. great designs/art/animation, IMHO)
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes (epic space opera, but lots of talking/discussions, esp. on the merits/problems of governments/politics)
- Akira (cyberpunk-ish? great animation/art for it's time. awesome soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi)
- Wings of Honneamise (I still don't know how to categorize this one lol, great art/animation tho')
- Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky (Shiro no Laputa), Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away
- Gundam 8th MS Team
- Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Pailsen Files (the story's actually a bit draggy, but the action sequences, esp. in the first episode, are quite good. Think Normandy invasion w/ 15' tall mecha w/ paper thin armor in relation to the weapons used lol)
- other stuff I've forgotten (Grave of the Fireflies is supposed to be really depressing, but I've yet to see it in it's entirety)
re: steamboy
yup, it was pretty, but I don't think I enjoyed the story so much.
re: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
I watched the first series plus the movie, and wasn't too keen on FMA Bro. FMA Bro is supposed to be closer to the manga, right? (only read a little of that...the only manga I really keep an eye out for are those by Masamune Shirow)
FMA is, I think, another example of anime that initially appeared to be relatively light hearted, turning out to be rather 'dark'.

In terms of animation, I thought DS:D was great, yeah. In terms of contributing to the DS storyline, it was pretty poor and didn't mesh at all well. Not like the comics they released over Xbox Live, anyway.Jamie9 wrote...
I thought Dead Space: Downfall was a pretty good animation based on a game, it did well so they are making a second: Dead Space: Aftermath. I'm not sure Dragon Age: Origins could be fit into one film however, three would be preferable, but I think two could cover it. One film is going to miss out a LOT.

Huh...
I think it could be pretty well done if it is made Ghost in the Shell style.

I'm pretty sure this film won't be adapting the storyling of DA: Origins, but instead tell a series of self-contained side-stories to the events of the game, much like Halo - Legends did.
It'd be cool if at least one or two of the segments focused on or included some of the companions from Origins, like maybe a segment on Morrigan's past growing up with Flemeth in the Korcari Wilds, or of Leliana's life in Orlais before the game. Otherwise, it'll probably tell stories of characters created for the anime itself, with possible tangenital ties to the fan-favorite characters from the game, just for the sake of recognizing them. There'll probably be Dragon Age 2 characters used as well, since this will come out about 6 months after that game.
If the marketing department gets their way, there might even be a story about Hawke's rise to power.

In the animated film will we be able to see the heroes' progress halted by missing NPCs or other game-breaking bugs? Or perhaps they will hold and swing their swords backwards, have no boots or transition into areas completely naked? I'd pay money to see that.
Thats only about the 4,352nd time that same joke has been made in a slightly different way...in this thread alone.
Keep it coming!!
