I think you guys are judging this too harshly based on the word anime. Anime does not only mean dragonball z.There are many different kinds of anime styles, like the Chronicles of Riddick anime.
However, what bothers me more (and I wonder why no one has commented on it), is that this move prety much represents the complete commercialization of EA/Bioware. This is just another money grab along with the DLC's, and merchandising like ladies t-shirts.
They could have made a nice Sacred Ashes style movie for the fans, but it had to be commerciali$ed to appeal to the widest swath of people like everything else.
You summed it up perfectly.
So many people seem to think anime stands for girlish guys with huge swords and spikey hair. They can't ALL be Final Fantasy characters. Those just tend to look alike. Anime can look like anything. It's only barred by imagination.
Didn't EA make an anime before out of "Dante's Inferno"?

You know, Funimation doesn't have a good history with anime titles with the word "Dragon" in them.
Why does Bioware need Funimation anyway? All Funimation does is take shows from Japan and distribute them (and sometimes extremely poorly) to English audiences. The only thing they've ever created on their own was "Cyboars" and that didn't really turn out that great. Remember that show? Yeah, didn't think so.
Funimation are hacks at making their own shows- Bioware has no need for them. It'd be one thing if Bioware wanted some company to help them license an anime but Funimation is a company dedicated to licensing stuff other people create, not to creating it themselves. It'd be like a Chinese company distributing a Harry Potter cartoon in China then making it big and becoming rich off it and acted like they invented the wheel or something. Bioware, unlike Funimation, actually -creates- original content and stories on their own, they don't just pay foreigners to let them get a share of the take by putting it in English. Bioware should just cut the middle man out (Funimation) and do this on their own. Just go to whoever made Record of Lodoss War anime and say, "here, it's all yours", give em some cash, and that Dragon Age anime will be 10X better than anything Funimation could come up with on their own.

Nor am I a troll. I'd just like to see the Dragon Age anime be handled the best way possible. I mean, just look at the live-action Dragon Ball movie- Fox based it heavily on the English version of Funi's dubbing. So original movies based on Funi's work isn't quite that impressive.
Funimation doesn't really "create" anything, they're no Disney or Pixar. They just pay other people to let them sell their product in America.
Bioware has no need of Funimation to translate their product into English. Nor do they need to cut Funimation in on their product- they don't need Funimation to hold their hand while they ask some Japanese studio to make an original anime for them. It'd be like me hiring some fat kid to buy me a cake at the bakery when I could just as easily buy it myself, after which I then sell the cake for cash. Funi has no studio and makes nothing, all they can do at best is pay off some Japanese studio to make an anime for them- something Bioware can do just as easily.
Furthermore, Funimation's never really even done original shows before so Bioware's taking a plunge with someone untested there. Cause, you know, "from the creators of Cyboars" just isn't very confidence-inspiring. Hell, you can't even find a split second of Cyboars on Youtube that's how bad it bombed! They should tell Funi to keep their money and finance the anime themselves rather then letting Funi sweet-talk them into taking a piece of their pie. The Dragon Age anime will do just fine w/ or w/out Funi, letting Funi get in on it is just silly really.
"not even going to bother pointing out what's wrong in virtualy every word you typed"
Aye, you needn't bother because there's nothing wrong in what I typed. T'would be far easier to make an angry sarcastic comment and treat my remarks dismissively without bothering to respond to a word I say rather then trying to raise a productive counter-argument to make your case. This lets you completely avoid addressing any issues I raise while simultaenously granting me a negative status and using that as an excuse to wholely ignore/attack/dismiss anything I say while giving absolutely no reasons for doing so besides the simple initial excuse.
So then, who's the troll hmmm?
I know your tactics- make some snide insulting remarks about another person without bothering to respond to their arguments or responding in as much brevity or insult as possible, it's like a Bill O'Reilly insulting the other person and yelling at them basically.
You can respond to or not respond to my arguments if you wish, but don't make personal attacks on me for my views when I have insulted no users here.

I'm also concerned with the plot this anime will have. It better not be a retelling of the game. My guess is that it could be a tie-in between DAO and DA2 given the 2011 release.

The anime style doesn't usually go well with a European Middle Ages kind of setting. Something about the armor just doesn't look quite right.
But hey, I do hope they surprise me! And I do hope Bioware gets a bunch of money out of this, so they can make more and more of these awesome games!

On the other hand I doubt Bioware could do it on their own, they don't really have any experience with this sort of thing. But why can't they just work with some good company in Japan? They are the ones who knows how to make anime, and it is not like Funimation are the only ones who can talk to them, Bioware can do that. Then again, I suppose it is easier to publish the film in NA with the help of Funimation, but still.

mentioned it will be released in 2011.
I'm not opposed for the anime movie, so long as they keep it mostly serious (except for the humorous parts) and not have everyone's reaction being magnified x10 as is typical in most anime's.
Could you imagine Duncan or Sten with huge sweat beads? lolz.
I hope they keep it at the far PG-rated spectrum or R rather than gearing it towards the teens and children for sales. That would be very disappointing if they did that.Half of the content would have to be cut or changed. No thanks.

As purplesunset suggested, a CGI along the lines of Sacred Ashes would fit the bill and do the DA series justice. If those clips of yours are supposed to represent the best anime has to offer, it's clear that nothing other than CGI will be up to par.
