I'd much rather watch something like the Warden's Fall. There is you CGI folks. Bonus: Using the toolset to create a movie would not involve the fistfuls of cash the CGI naysayers mention.

Dragon Age is a niche game with hardly the resources to make that.

I have seen a lot of anime, from Utena to Blue Water to Those Who Hunt Elves... And I'm not excited about these news.
The anime style doesn't usually go well with a European Middle Ages kind of setting. Something about the armor just doesn't look quite right.
But hey, I do hope they surprise me! And I do hope Bioware gets a bunch of money out of this, so they can make more and more of these awesome games!
I'm guessing you never seen Berserk, its a dark gory middle age anime. The art style they used for that anime is great. The story is great aswell one of my Favorite animes ever. So its is possible to make Dragon Age into an anime and still do it justice.

It's like saying orchestral music can be nothing but orchestral music, or watercolour painting nothing but watercolour painting. While true, it's largely meaningless due to breadth of the medium.Tsuga C wrote...

edit: also, while cgi can be nice when done by people with strong experience and skills, it is notoriously difficult to get it look 'right' as you start to approach realism, due to "uncanny valley" effect. There's reason why you don't see many feature-length cgi movies being released, and even the ones which do get done tend to stylize things in one way or another.

Yes, Berserk has a very similar mood! But it's an exception, more than anything else... It doesn't rule out the possibility of the DA cartoon being done in the same style though, so let's keep our fingers crossed!

Anime can be impressive visually and can coreograp impressive fights. Take this for example:
As for being mature and being big-eyed, spiky heaired stuff..
Check these two things:

I liked those clips. I wil check out some of the anime's listed in this thread.
As for the topic, I hope they keep it gritty like "Samurai Champloo". I must now shamelessly mention the awesomeness that is "Code Geass". It was brilliant.
Since I can't seem to recall the ending or middle of that one, you're probably rightWicked 702 wrote... about EA's Dante's Inferno anime
Yes, unfortunately it was pretty terrible.

Let's take into account that ultimately EA has to sign off on the check to make this. They likely already have a set budget to work with. I don't think they will be able to afford even the good animation houses in Japan. I have a feeling that since it will be direct to video, we'll be looking at along the lines of this quality here:
http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
It's going to entirely depend on what they can afford. EA is known to be cheap on everything except advertising. I'm not going to expect the greatest out of this no matter what "style" of animation they go with.
Edit: redid the first link

Idk why people think Alistair will look like Goku or anything like that. I'm kind of scared about FUNimation though. I think they can achieve something really great if they research a little more about every kind of anime genre and doesn't keep in mind pseudoanime styles like the ones seen in Avatar, Martin Mystery or things like that.
I hope they do something good like what Daft Punk achieved with their Interstella 5555. I've never met anyone complaining about those videos and well, they're made anime style! Even if the style used on the videos isn't my favorite, I wish something good like that would be achieved by EA. Is it much to ask?

Code Geass... overhyped IMHO. But what irks me the most was the drawing style. Sticks wihout noses..it was horrible. I hope to God that they don't use that style for DA.

Just please don't use the same artists that did the comic. Sorry, but I live with a comic artist so I'm a bit biased as to how anatomy should look.

Some animes have great and very detailed art. Like Cowboy Bebop and Last Exile. A joy to watch.
Then - however - we have the art of massproduction animes like Dragon Ball and Pokémon. I really hope Dragon Age doesn't chose this style.
Of course the story is very important, but if the art is unappealing, it will not be interesting.
Anyway: I hope it wil be a spin-off story without the characters from the game. So that we are sure it will not ruin the game. Like the horrible Advent Children almost did to Final Fantasy VII.

I'm digging this whole expanded universe concept (even if the books and comics are impossible to find in Australia, grumble grumble), but I figure an "anime" might be more available. Will check it out at least.
... as long as it's like "Ouran Host Club" but with Grey Wardens.
Seriously, I agree with the Samurai Champloo/Cowboy Bebop aesthetic people are suggesting.
Get Shinichiro Watanabe to direct, and Yoko Kanno to do the music, and we'll be on to a good thing.

I was just watching a reinvented
"Masters of the Universe" series that was on Cartoon Network in 2006 I
believe. It had some anime-ish qualities in the style but not as
over-the-top as that stuff sometimes is. The story was quite a bit
darker and more adult-ish that the original cartoon. Anyway, being near
the end of my 2nd Origins playthrough, as I was watching this it got me
thinking that the style and the writing would work for a Dragon Age
animated series...
That's better than nothing, I guess. I suppose I'll have to adopt a wait-and-see approach. Thanks for the info.TheMadCat wrote...
