Basically gripers just want black skinned people in the game for nonsensical reasons.  The Tolkien style high fantasy we have now all comes down from Celtic, Viking, and Teutonic mythos...none of which include Africa anywhere in them. Well, the Vikings may have pillaged parts of Africa at one time but i've never seen any mention of dark skinned people in their mythos...with the exception of Svartalfar(dark elves, the opposite of light elves...which probably just refers to good and evil).

More valid than anything i've seen anyone spout on here so far. You want dark skinned people in the game for no good reason or logical argumentative that i've seen so far.

This is still going? Yes they're are dark skinned people in the game, lots in fact, yes some are African features (Qunari, just with pointy ears) yes you can make regular African features Wardens for humans, elves or dwaves if you have any kind of compitance with charecter creating and yes the title of this topic is still wrong

Great, I knew with a thread like this, it would only be a matter of time before racist comments appeared. 

Incidentally, in the medieval world, blacks were not enslaved; African slavery only began in the 16th century with the Portuguese in West Africa. 

BTW, I know "games" are not "literature" and there's still a conceptual divide here, but what we're talking about is not a non-issue. 

There is a definite lack of color in speculative fiction, both sci-fi and fantasy. (And BTW in real life I'm white.)

I notice in Ferelden men and women seem to have equal social status, and both appear capable of serving as knights of high military rank (Ser Cauthrien). Plus women run the Chantry. 

That seems very very unlike the world of medieval England. BTW, in some role playing games, if you play a female character there are ability penalties (-1 STR) because women, on average, have lower average upper body strength than men. That differentiation has disappeared in most RPGs due to ... well, you could call it political incorrectness. But basically the demands of female gamers, who want to play female characters and not be penalized in any way for it. 

Were those demands "nonsensical"? 

My point? It's not just white people who play fantasy games either.

Yes they were nonsensical. Because I never seen a game in which women characters were just penalized (i.e. -1 STR), rather at the same time they were awarded (i.e. +1 CHA or +1 DEX). 
It is nonsensical when people pull sexist or racist card when someone just made a fully correct statement based on actual statistics or just plain science. Women are biologically made weaker and can never achieve the musculature or plain strenght levels of man, its biogically impossible.

Bioware already mentioned somewhere that black people live on another continent. In case there is no communication between Ferelden and them, it is lose-breaking to have them there.



For those who say: they make the lore, they should put black people here I say: go to Forgotten Realms, the beautiful land where everyone's wishes come true, no matter the costs. I myself am tired of getting to see that lore has less priority then modern idealisms.



The same goes for the opposite: if the story happened in the above mentioned continent, I would not want to see white people there either.



On England and Ferelden: Ferelden may be based on medieval Europe, but they are NOT medieval Europe. It is Ferelden and there is no reason to discuss Europe here X(

I was mildly annoyed that there were no darker-skinned people in the game. Still, I guess the lore makes sense. My main question is why Bioware would have specific lore surrounding the absence on black people, though. Where's the point in that?

Statistics are compilations of numbers, percentages, facts, pseudo-facts, or just plain rhetoric that can be skewed to say anything you wish them to say - very popular among the political crowd or any group who is uninterested in any form of meaningful discussion and only wants to show their own partisan position.

It's not about what I think it's about what statistics says. There are whole districts in USA, England, France etc. populated only by black people and 100% - it means every single person - of age above 10 (sic!) residents have a record of minor to major crimes. This are the districts that are marked on turists maps as - do not under any circumstance go there! 
As for American education system USA is in top ten countries with highest illiterated percentage of citizens, and is deeply below 40 place when it comes to quality of education and around the same place in budget money spent on education. 
So if you want to argue about something first do your homework.
