One small quibble, Joker's a badass?

Well he's a badass pilot, and the guy who reported that he couldn't even walk without crutches at the beginning of the game is seen at the end of the game mowing down waves of collectors with an assault rifle (with several ribs that were allegedly broken less than a day earlier)....so I'd call that pretty badass.

To all squadmates but Garrus -> Daddy Issues.

Joker would probably fit one of the various breeds of snarker a hell of a lot better than bad ass. He even repeatedly points out that he's not even fit to fight.

Legion, Zaeed, Kasumi, Mordin, and Jack all have issues that are not daddy related.

Samara and Thane both have "kiddy" issues.

Grunt's issues could kind of be blamed on the lack of a daddy, but it's kind of a stretch.

You have a point about the cut scene near the end, and he's definitely a kick-ass pilot but I agree with the above poster that he's more snark than badass. He spends most of the game trading barbs with the AI -- and not always coming out on top. Plus, when he has to get up and move around the ship, he looks a lot more like a helpless person with a handicap than a badass.

Still love the list though. Thanks again.

Was more of a joke (half joke) really. I wouldn't count Zaeed and Kasumi since they're barely even characters but hey. Jack's got pseudo-daddy issues, her caretakers instead of actual parents since they didn't raise her.

I get what you're saying. Most characters have many tropes I could use, but if you want a comprehensive list of every trope that applies to the characters of Mass Effect....there's already a page for that on TVtropes.

This was just me having a bit of fun.

You seem to have missed the entire purpose behind separating the character into two.

Eh, "derailment" vs legit character development is arguable.

Also, this or this for Garrus.

I really liked Tali when she was Tali'Zorah nar Rayya. There's still elements of the snark there, but it's quickly overshadowed by demonstrations of her cuteness.

Since I don't romance Tali, more snark, less cute.

There is nothing legit about a character suddenly acting completely different in the sequel and nothing in the narrative brings it up or even seems to notice that it happened.

A few alternatives:

Liara T'soni (also notable quote: "blue seems to be a more prominent color nowadays")

It may have been unintentional, but here's one for....

Kaidan Alenko

I'll agree Kaidan is Estrogen Brigade Bait, though Thane and Garrus also qualify.

Some more:

Jacob Taylor

Miranda Lawson

Tali and Garrus

I dunno. Tali's transition from "young, spunky, tech girl" on her pilgrimage to "Combat Engineer Leader" for the Quarians seemed pretty clear to me.
1) Freedom's Progress - When you first meet Tali she's supposed to be in charge of a Quarian rescue team. There are leadership issues but she tries.
2) Haestrom - She's in charge of the expedition!
3) Trial - She's a heroine to her people, enough so that they try to politically manipulate her and thats enough to possibly affect whether the Quarians go to war or not. She even has the foresight to know what the effect of revealing her father's experiments would do to the fleet. If you talk to her after giving Rael's evidence she exposes how the fleet is falling apart.

Ignoring the romance options I get the impression that Tali's simply grown up. She's trying to be a leader, although we do get some hint that some of it is being forced on her.

Pay attention to the cut scenes and dialog. Things actually happen during those parts of the game.

EDIT: Probably a better trope for Tali in ME2

Without bothering to argue with you about what I actually think on the subject, I will offer you one key reason why I have no intention of changing the listed trope to that:

It completely ruins the joke.

Has anybody noticed the single unbreakable rule of Lemonwizard threads yet? Anybody who can figure it out wins the prize that my next topic will irritate the fanbase of the character of your choice!

....But you can't choose Liara, because the idea of flamebaiting Liara fans scares me.
