They have a contingency plan.

Plan A: Automaticaly activate Citadel. FAILED
Plan B: Manualy activate Citadel. Rachni. FAILED
Plan C: Manualy activate Citadel again. Geth. FAILED
Plan D: Build new Reaper. Repeat Plan C. FAILED
Plan E: Wormhole? In Progress

I want my Shepard to be able to say "I AM THE VANGUARD OF YOUR SELF-ESTEEM CRISIS."

How soon you all forget.  TIM is a Reaper!

He's going to open the door and let them in.

Maybe the aging sun orbiting Haestrom isn't actually a sun, maybe it's a black hole the reapers invented for use as a plan b.

Freaky.....

Here is my bit of speculation.

The reapers have been doing this for a long time now. Until recently their usual plan has worked. Leave one guy behind to start up the cycle every 50k years.

This time, though, the organics (with a bit of last second help from the protheans) have mucked up the plan.

This explains why only Sovereign (or Nassana) was hanging out to start this latest cycle.

It seems they are taking the slow road to the galaxy as a secondary plan. I do not doubt that Haelstrom fits in somehow.

Might as well throw in a bit of speculation on the human reaver. Perhaps part of the cycle is to assimulate whatever the most dominate organic race is each cycle into their structure. This time its apparently humans since shepard kicked one of their metallic behinds.

my view, is that due to their specialation into Mass Effect tech and relays, that normal flight is possible, but, due to it takeing 2-3 years as others have supplied, is either too costly, and ineffective for their use, when they can use the citadel, however, we foiled that plan in ME2, in the second, they tried to make one or more human reaper, but failed, due to our efforts, however, as harbringer says at the end: You have failed, we will find another way, they will try FTL, at an high cost in energy, that if repeted, will starve the reapers out.

so yes, they will come, but we bought time, time we sorely need.

honestly i reckon there already on there way as soon as Soverign was defeated by sheperd. Which was 2 years ago so they could be there at anytime really. As they are machines then time has no meaning to them and can wait forever.

The fact that they're machines doesn't change the fact that they've got an enormous distance to travel. The end scene in ME2 shows you just how far away they are.

They will also likely combine their mass effect fields to generate a massive gateway for the rest of the trip.

How is this 'likely'? Have you seen a single example at any point in the entirety of the franchise of this even making sense, let alone it being possible?
