So How Much And Why Do YOU Love Alistair?

Posted Image

So I have to know: What is it with Alistair and the enormous outpouring of love, lust, slash, and general goo-goo eyes from the females (and some males, as well) of the world? I pose this question because I just don’t understand it — is it the pretty boy good looks? Is it the quasi-tortured and sad whiny-boy who can kick ass but “just needs a good woman to love him” thing? Is it… that he’s a virgin? Will have a threesome? What? What is it that causes girls and women alike to melt over this fictional man and express their undying love and… other things to the world at large?

I think it's because Alistair's a little boy in the body of a man. No experience, no backbone, no character. He can be willingly shaped and/or manipulated into whatever the female partner wants him to be. Unlike with Zevran, it's not a relationship on equal footing... the poor lad's mothered all the way.

He's a Woobie. But not an overly-obvious one.

So I guess he's a Stealth Woobie.

What's a woobie?

Anyway, I can certainly see the appeal. Corded muscle all over his body, a handsome face, and a goofy good natured personality.

However, he's still something of an imbecile. I don't think the trade off is worth it, personally.

He is handsome, cute, sexy, and funny. If I was a girl I would be all over him. I like his eyes, he really takes care of his sexy face.

"A woobie (named for a child's security blanket) is that character you
want to give a big hug, wrap in a blanket and feed soup to when he or
she suffers so very beautifully.
" TVTropes

Alistair is even mentioned on that page. I romanced him on my first playthrough, it's a matter of opinion of course, but he generally comes off as a nice guy to most. I romance him on the basis that if I were my Warden, how could I not fall for the relatively good looking guy fighting at my side and making wisecracks while he's at it? Not to mention the British Fereldan accent and the spoiler that can possibly happen at the end. A man in power is appealing to some.

I think everyone here has got it right.

It's all of those things. We like him because he's handsome and because he's goofy. He appears to be the sensitive type (though perhaps a little too sensitive at times, which could prove massively annoying in the long run) yet he is also capable of being firm (I don't mean it like that) and taking control himself. Standing up for what he believes in.

I think women just want to mother him a bit. Take care of him and show him how to do things. Like you've said, we can mold him to suit us and satisfy our every whim. We like it when he says "as you command" or "as you wish" because we know we're getting our way (though we don't always want it our way)  Because he's a virgin, we can teach him to do things how we like them - he won't be selfish or greedy. He'll get what he's bloody given, and I suppose we're more willing to give him more if he's not asking for it or expecting it. And then even if he is, we won't mind doing it anyway because he gives us gifts and makes us feel good about ourselves. We know he's watching our bum as we walk and we catch him watching us at the campfire. It's like movie romance and it makes us giddy like school girls.

Er... I only just thought about this by the way...  Posted Image

Oh yeah, I forgot the fact that he'll become King, which is obviously a bit of a bonus. He starts to throw his weight around near the end and we like him getting riled up. Shows us he can be a bit rawr... if you know what I mean. Plus, he does have a super sexy voice.

My god. I worry about myself sometimes.

Most importantly is his loyalty to you. Zev is also loyal after he falls for you 100% but he still flirts. But with Alistair the relationship is more inportant than the sex from the very beginning.

Basically he's what most women want in a guy.

He's a handsome do-gooder who is funny and yet stupid at the same time.

Womenfolk like good looking nice guys who make them laugh, yet are easily bossed around.

Absolutely right. Though we want you to snap out of being a wet-blanket, get fired up and defend our honour with a good swordfight should the need arise. Then drag us by the hand back to the tent. Ideally.

Got that fellas?

His voice as well. I could just listen to him talk all day. His English accent is just yummy which is a big deal for me as I'm English myself so I've never found our accents very squee! worthy as to me it's just normal. But Alistairs is definitely Squee! worthy. I am now in love with Steve Valentine as a voice actor =D

And here I thought Alistair had a lot of the traits women want in a good guy; while Zevran had most of the traits they wanted in a bad boy.

Negative. I prefer leading the females, making the decisions, and using my superior strength and intellect to put them in their places when the need arises.  You know, the way it was meant to be.  ;)

(Sigh) Yeah, but we like that too. We want to be pushed around and do the pushing whenever it suits us.

EDIT: by 'we', I mean 'me'... and possibly a few other women. And by 'pushed' I don't mean it in a slightly crazy, borderline domestic abuse sort of way.  I felt I should clarify that!
