Having had a sleep between asking for a definition of douchebag and coming back again - I will say, Alistair isn't a douchebag as far as the definition goes. And most women don't go for douchebags. Not from my experience any way.

Hey, you are stereotyping!!!

Alright, I think this troll has gotten far too much attention already.

Notice I said "most" :).

I was honestly confused as to the meaning of the word, though. It's very popular these days.

Here, have a sexy Alistair pic! Really, people need NO OTHER explanation for why we all love him so much :).

Face it guys. All these ladies can't be wrong. Alistair IS hot. So just get over yourself and take notes instead of complaining. Just sayin...

And guys (with KoP at the helm) can't be wrong, so girls should face it. Morrigan is hot. So they should get over themselves and take notes instead of complaining.

But that would create a paradox, because girls  would have to hate Alistair and Alistair like men, just like Morrigan does....hmmm.

I say my will supercedes in this eventuality Posted Image

Yeah but it's not niceness that morrigan hates about Alistair.   If you want Morrigan to fall for you and not just have a quick fumble, your warden has to care for Morrigan and respect her like Alistair cares for and respects the female warden.

So yeah, males still have to take notes Posted Image  Even Morrigan wants a nice guy deep down.

Here's my take on women and Alistair, men and Morrigan, and what people want in a romance:

"People are not simple. They cannot be summarized for quick reference in the manner of 'The elves are a pointed eared lively people who excel at poverty."

Sten

Hence all my popcorn comments.

Once the Alicorn shows up, I figure a thread is done. There's nothing no where left to go but pixel porn. We probably shouldn't have tried so hard to keep it from devolving into Alistair vs Loghain. There's devolved, then there's devolved.

Heh, I think the Alicorn has been in the Alistair Gush thread even more than in the Zevran Thread and it's hardly over. Charsen is a genius I tell you!

Edit: Now I'm wondering if posting Alicorn inspired art will make the situation better or worse!

Yes, that thread has certainly changed in tone. I'll leave it at that.

I think it's because Alistair's a little boy in the body of a man. No experience, no backbone, no character. He can be willingly shaped and/or manipulated into whatever the female partner wants him to be. Unlike with Zevran, it's not a relationship on equal footing... the poor lad's mothered all the way.

I think I felt sorry for him mostly..due to the fact that he was never to ever think about being King,  that Arl Eamon housed him with the hounds...and that they sent him off to the Chantry.     The guy didn't start out in life right.

I liked his sense of humour,  mostly. :)   Can't say I was "in love" with him,  just that he touched a heart string or two.

 well i don't understand  obsession with Morrigan , i mean really ,such a b*****

Oh, that's easier to explain than you'd think.

It's not the looks so much, or even the voice (though both of those things do help, giving her an exotic flavor that many men like a lot). From what I've gathered, the reason many male players fall hard for Morrigan is because she has that hard, hard shell. She pushes the player away and wants nothing to do with love, but when that shell starts to crack he starts to think that maybe he can reach her. Maybe he can save her, bring out that vulnerable side she only rarely shows and which she would never even admit to.

There are certain fantasies that romances cater to, and Morrigan has hers just as Alistair does. It's never going to appeal to everyone, but it certainly doesn't happen by accident.

As a friend,  Morrigan is also a challenge that way too.   It is rewarding near the end, to finally gain her admittance to being your friend.    Sometimes when I am playing along early in the game, and she does her disapproval thing...I kind of mutter to myself....Oh Morrigan!  Shut up.  hehehe   Then I'll go put her in camp so I don't lose any more approval from her til I need her a bit later in the game. :D

She can be kind of obnoxious at times yes,  try your patience..yes. :)   Still like her character though.   But then again I like Sten too. :)   Challenging companions are more fun to figure out. :)

It is always intriguing to discover that all discussion's on the forum about Alistair's appeal sooner or later becomes a group of teenage boys giving helpful advice to adult ladies about what women really finds attractive in men...Posted Image

I'm in my mid-ish 30's

You know - you just punched yourself in the balls by admitting you are in your mid-30s and still have no clue about women.  If you were in your teens or early 20s you'd have an excuse.

Oh please, women don't understand women. Punched myself in the balls? You can't even see to understand me.

Yes, aren't they?? I think it might have to do with having more appreciation for something you've worked hard for rather than what's just handed to you.

Developing a relationship/trust with Sten and Morrigan is among the most rewarding aspects of the game, IMO. Posted Image

edit: oh yeah, and regarding the post/convo directly above me... I don't know why anyone would even bother trying to understand women as a collective, they vary too differently from one to the other, even in their various idiosyncrasies one could term 'craziness'. Posted Image

Agreed about Sten! Mannnn... "You're a female. You can't be a warrior." "You say you're a Warden, but I remain unimpressed."

I didn't think I'd get anywhere with him until I discovered his love of paintings :P

Agreed. I really enjoy the conversations with Sten, and trying to figure out how to gain his allegience, and find the friendship with Morrigan genuinely touching. She goes from a completely self-oriented world view to caring about someone other than herself for the first time in her life

heehee!! yeah I was pretty wary of him at first, but after a few conversations...yeah hmm let's turn this into a thread about female obsessions with Sten, shall we? x3

edit: oh yeah and you quote my post that I tried to fix to come across as less offensive (in case I offended said demographic...heh). pre-emptive defense: I'm really not trying to be mean or anything, just my personal experience hearing about all my female friends and co-workers' relationships, and sometimes it's just like: no wonder men think we're nuts. ^^;

But back to Sten Alistair. That's who this thread is about, right? He's an amazing character. But after Sten started calling me kadan, he's just not... doing it for me. >_>
I may have even transferred my Steve Valentine VA crush to Mark Hildreth. Posted Image

Alright - I'll bite.  You've successfully trolled me.

I'm lookin right at you chewin on my popcorn.  My vision is fine.  I see you perfectly.  Please, go on.  Continue to oversimplify human beings with all your wisdom and experience.  Explain to me what it is I don't understand.

First you said all women go for douche bags.  That's false.  Some women go for douchebags sometimes, and often this is a phase of naivity that passes with maturity.  Not always, but often.

Then you defended your superior intellect by stating you are not a teenager, but in your 30s.  Uh huh.  So what you inadvertantly said was you are in your 30s but you still think like a teenager in that you pigeon hole women into one category - douchebag chasers.

I understand you perfectly.  You are the guy who pined for a woman (or two, or three, no probably a dozen) who was never going to date you to begin with.  Then when she dated someone else, you got jealous, labeled him a douche bag, and decided all women go for douchebags.

To more simply explain it:  in your mind everyone else is wrong / misguided and you are right.

You're not hard to figure out.  Guys like you are a dime a dozen.  There's one of you in every workplace, every classroom, and on every message board regardless of the topic.

But see, I won't go so far as to say every guy is like you, because we're not.  And because not everything needs to fit inside a neat little box for me.  There are different people with different personalities and different situations and my mind can handle that, son.
