That or I was making a light remark (albeit with a hint of truth) not meant to be taken as gospel.

And guys (with KoP at the helm) can't be wrong, so girls should face it. Morrigan is hot. So they should get over themselves and take notes instead of complaining.

But that would create a paradox, because girls  would have to hate Alistair and Alistair like men, just like Morrigan does....hmmm.

I believe that you have just proved with flawless logic, that even if every woman was tranformed into a man's dream and every man was transformed into a woman's dream, men and women would still fail to understand each other. Well done KoP!

Man,.... All you Alistair haters... Go to hell... lol

Seriously.. If you find any sort of sarcastic, yet charming humor to fit the term "douchebag", then I promise, PROMISE, you all that you would LOVE me with TLC (tough love with a chair-made-of-nails) if you ever got the chance to know me in real life, cause I am more like Alistair than any other, so I can relate to him big time, like none other.

People like Alistair know many times that they might not always be the most charming person, at least not to those who are intolerable to people who talk a little much, but I find him to be a cool guy and would love to have more people like him in the world, they make good friends and can help cheer you up.

With all due respect, it's one thing to say you don't like him, but for you guys to just "cut his balls off for being a little talkative and humorous" REALLY need to get help. Consider the type of life he's lived; practically spat at his entire life for who he is potentially (the next king of Ferelden).

Anyway, I can tell that there are gonna be a bunch of people who will shoot me down, I am sure for this, but quite frankly I could care just as much as I would care about Loghain. I stuck up for two people at once, so this was necessary.

First you said all women go for douche bags. That's false. Some women go for douchebags sometimes, and often this is a phase of naivity that passes with maturity. Not always, but often.

That is true enough, however I have found that many people today ( BOTH men and women ) never reach that maturity until they marry or they are given a real responsibility in life. ( at work for example ).

But I somehow doubt Alistair is liked by so many women because he is a douche bag ( how you define one can vary, but he is on my eyes ) because he masks it very well.

Even more often this sort of sweeping generalization is a result of sour grapes Posted Image

douchebag = a man who is better at communicating with women than me...?

That or "but i'm a Nice Guy! So if she chooses him over me, then he must be a douchebag. Stupid woman, they all are like that."

Considering that Josef Fritzl got a lot of love-letters when he went to prison, I don't think that it can be dismissed just like that.

There is a very, very small minority of women who does things like that, although some people want use that as somehow indicative of all women, which is just as false as saying all men are child-molesters or whatever else stupid generalization you can think of.

Ah, a lot was the first proposition. I would say a few.

But I define douchebag partly as: Man who communicates with my (yay for ownership) woman better than me over the course of a few months without telling me.

He was both mote charismatic and attractive than me, but still.

Why the hostility? And being good at communicating sometimes has to do with being a douchebag, lex Fossmo and cult leaders in general.

The hostility was perhaps bad manners, but was due to the fact that what you said, could in that context be interpreted as it had something to say about women in general, as opposed just the deranged tiny minority who write love letters to murderers. I resent that.

Alistair a douchebag? Yeah, I suppose you could say that, when one considers just what a douche is used for, and the hoardes of female fans who probably dream of various ways to utilize Alistair in that capacity...

So, a douche being something that gets introduced to female genitalia quite often is something that many males say they aspire to. So, in calling Alistair a douchebag is actually a compliment and a statement of jealousy.

I don't know, this seems to be a not atypical reaction to any character the fangirls squee after. Like Carth and Kaidan got a ton of male hate iirc. ^^

(commence Raphael Sbarge VA love) <3

Calling it outright jealousy might be a bit extreme, I think it is something more subverted and subconscious than that--although it amounts to the same thing. (ie why are these girls going crazy for this guy I don't get it --> I can't stand all the attention he is getting ---> I can't stand him)

Maybe it's as easy as, with Alistair, a lot of his traits that are charming when romancing him do become annoying when not.

Never thought of it that way, let alone from a lady (based on your avatar)
Hah this is probably the nicest compliment slash insult whatever anyone has ever said about him.

I certainly don't expect Ali to worship my PC's. But real love is stronger than biggotry and it is stronger than society's expectations. It is stronger than hate. It is stronger than vengeance. It is stronger than duty. And this does not mean those things may not be important and you can't have those things too but the crux is love is stronger. And Alistairs love is NOT.

This is all a two-way street, however.  If your PC truly loves him, then she would have to love that he wants to do good not only by her but by other people.  And that he's not callously irresponsible.

But it is true that the romance is written such that the PC is not always Alistair's be-all end-all.  My take is that, regardless of whether they stay together or not, he will love the PC his whole life.  If he does not have substantial duty to fall back on- the kingship, basically- then he is devastated by losing her.

My PC's never wanted Ali to worship them. They did expect he would love them more than he hated Loghain.

I don't want to get into an Alistair-Loghain thing again, but as I said, this expectation ought to be a two-way street.

Yeah, I never understood why people who condemn him for walking out of the relationship can't see things from his point of view.  It's especially easy to emphathize with him if you play a HN.  Loghain is (in his mind) directly responsible for killing Duncan and Cailan.  Not to mention he planned for Eamon's assasination as well.  He basically attacked all of the family Alistair has left... and you expect him to just go along with recruiting him into the Grey Wardens?  You're asking an awful lot of him (too much obviously).

Even if it were just to sacrifice him later on (which you can't know at the time), I think the last thing Alistair would want is for Loghain to die as the hero of Fereldan.  Would that be a petty/emotional response?  Absolutely, but given the circumstances it is completely understandable.

And keep in mind that at this point in the story, neither Alistair nor you know WHY there is such a dire need for Grey Wardens.  Alistair doesn't know that it must be a Grey Warden who kills the AD, he only knows what everyone else knows -- the legend.  I honestly believe that -- had Alistair known WHY Riordan wanted another Grey Warden -- he would have yielded to the necessity of the moment.  That's Riordan's fault for not passing on vital information the moment he first talked to you. He should have known better.  How dare he expect Alistair to accept the man he hates most in the entire world as a brother in arms? And how dare we?  It's important to remember that WE betray Alistair first....WE let Loghain live.

The problem is that you have to be as beautiful as Morrigan is to get away with all that ****iness....some of us just weren't born with that equipment and have to rely on other strategies. Posted Image
