I figured he was just the safe option for teenage girls, he's awkward, he's a virgin, he says dashing things and gives you roses. (That said my mum played the game and became completely enamoured by him).
Meh Alistair can call again in 10 years when he's licked a few more lampposts…

I like Alistair and have romanced him. To me his biggest problem is one that time will overcome. He's written as being young, inexperienced and very very sheltered.
From what the dialogue hints he's been told from an early age he's not worth anything and certainly that he's not fit to lead.
I'm not sure about the accent thing - although - I love the way the VA says "darkspawn". Not sure why, I'm probably just odd.

His voice as well. I could just listen to him talk all day. His English accent is just yummy which is a big deal for me as I'm English myself so I've never found our accents very squee! worthy as to me it's just normal.
I know right? Or accents are about as romantic as Sten! Clearly nobody that thinks this has been to Birmingham. . .

Alistair has a British accent? Bloody hellfire I'd never noticed that before, just sounded like a normal voice to me
haha - I have the same problem with Morrigan's VA - she sounds normal to me if a bit posh (I'm Australian).

For a very brief period I suspected that Alistair was voiced by Robert Webb. Then I found out he's actually some guy off of Crossing Jordan and my interest waned.
Thanks for the great link. I'm a big Mitchell & Webb look fan, meself. That link is a classic.
My hubby thinks Alistair has a fake accent. He just does not understand.

The irony is that Alistair is pretty much like most nerds in that he's a sarcastic wimp, yet he's got all the fangirls and the real nerds just have their hands. It must be the accent?
Hey, women MARRY nerds. I did. Nerds are uber sexy once you get past... oh, about 20. They were in my case any way.
It's not just the accent - it's the whole package. I didn't even know you could romance characters in DA until I read it online - so I decided to romance Alistair and WHAM - was totally lost. He's flirty without being crude, kind and considerate, firm about what he believes in and very, very loyal.
Also... kind of HOT!

You take a sarcastic wimp who is a hopeless romantic and put him in a 6'2ish body with about 4% body fat, a english accent, and can kick someones butt on Planet Thunderdome and I bet they'd have a fangirl or three as well.

Alistair is funny in that self-deprecating British way, where we all go on about how awful everything is (particularly Britain), but really love it all deep down. He comes across as lacking in self-confidence, a bit whimsical, highly idealistic and optimistic despite not having the easiest life, and with genuinely good heart. There's something appealing about him. He reminds me of the kid who got bullied a lot in school and decided that it wasn't going to get him down and he was going to show them all by making something of his life, only he hasn't quite got there yet, and needs a bit of assistance, a bit of guidance - and playing as a female character, the fact he's willing to look up to a woman as a leader and as an inspiration is both refreshing and appealing. Despite being your senior, he recognises that you are fitter to lead than he is. I know its a game mechanic, but his humility there is nice. He knows where he's weak and doesn't try and foister his weaknesses onto other people. If you harden him in his personal quest, then he begins overcoming those weaknesses. That is also appealing. In a way, DA:O is as much Alistair's coming-of-age story as anything else, at least when played in a certain way.
While Alistair is a genuinely good guy, it must also be stated that Zevran is also a genuinely nice guy, but far less obviously at first. Zevran is the good boy pretending to be the bad boy, which is not to say he doesn't have 'bad boy' qualities. He most assuredly does. The Zevran romance also has the slightly more-adult feel of starting off as fun and developing into something a lot more. I also have to admit that, if both were female, I'd go for Zevran way ahead of Alistair.

Eudaemonium I couldn't agree with you more. I think I'm only interested in Zevran in a lustful way. Alistair is the 'settle down with' sort of guy who'd you'd take home to meet mum and dad.
Heh, well Zevran is an easy guy to lust after. See, the problem with taking Zev home to meet your parents is that no matter how happy you were you'd spend the next 20 years trying to convince them he was actually a nice guy. The fact he jokingly hit on your dad probably didn't help matters.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. He'd be in bed with one of them when my back was turned!

Oh, that's easier to explain than you'd think.Loria232 wrote...
well i don't understand obsession with Morrigan , i mean really ,such a b*****
It's not the looks so much, or even the voice (though both of those things do help, giving her an exotic flavor that many men like a lot). From what I've gathered, the reason many male players fall hard for Morrigan is because she has that hard, hard shell. She pushes the player away and wants nothing to do with love, but when that shell starts to crack he starts to think that maybe he can reach her. Maybe he can save her, bring out that vulnerable side she only rarely shows and which she would never even admit to.
There are certain fantasies that romances cater to, and Morrigan has hers just as Alistair does. It's never going to appeal to everyone, but it certainly doesn't happen by accident.

So true...
I definitely fit into that category of players who fell hard for her.
The big question ofc is whether we'll ever get the chance to find her again. Or maybe this whole romance between Morrigan and Warden ended with the battle of Denerim.
Those of us who played through Awakening and saw the epilogue slide for Morrigan.. we pray for the former to be true.
