I stand by my reasoning that Alistair is a whimp. If he was a real man, he would never have been such a baby in the landsmeet. A grown **** man wouldn't abandon everything he stands for just to get his way. Loghain is more of a man than Alistair could ever be. Alistair has no sense of commitment.

I would rather ask Solid Snake for help with women, lol.

Alistair has no real manly qualities, and his relationship with a male warden is too freaking wierd. He got lucky he didn't get the sword in the landsmeet... I would think chicks would find that bad**** Loghain way more awesome than that wimp Alistair.

Hehe. No real manly qualities? Really? Have you SEEN him without his armour on?

Rawr.

And Loghain... meh. Doesn't do it for me. Dark and brooding never did. There's no crime in trying to see the funny side of things. Loghain looks like he hasn't laughed for forty years.

I am not going to win any friends with this reply but in a nut shell, women have no clue what they want, which is why it is thier perogative to change thier minds at a moments notice. The reason they all like Allistair is because he is something YOU as a flesh and blood male will never be, and that is what ever they want when they want it because as a fictional character he is infinatly more flexible in who he is because it is fantasy.

Perfect example is i work at a hospital so the primary sex of the work force is female. I have been here for almost 20 years and for the first 10 i could not get a date out of here. So i went and looked someplace else found a girl from outside the workplace, and got married. From the moment i slipped that 100 dollar piece of gold on my finger i was like Tom Jones at a Vegas show trying to work and having to duck slingshot panties from across the nurses stations. I would come home from work reach into my lab coat pocket and occasionaly there would be a name and a number on a slip of paper in there, and as i do have a sense of humor about it sometimes the names were not all female.

I am now getting a divorce, and the panties have stopped flying around, gone are the names on paper, so the only conclusion i can draw is that women what what they can not have more than anything else and since Allistair is fantasy there you have it.

If Morrigan's popularity is any indication, I'd say that men are very similar to women in that respect then.

Completely agree with that statement.

The latter - but you must leave Morrigan at camp to get this awesome screenshot of Ali

What does he say, since I always bring Shale to be a tank for the High Dragon at that part.

Something about the 'Ashes being self-replenishing' or something similar. I have yet to get my current PC to the Ashes quest in order to get this screenshot (the pic above is not my own). I have always taken Morrigan in the past so I have not gotten this myself, yet.

I love Wade, but not in that way. The voice helps with Alistair - when he reaches those lower registers, especially when he's trying to get you to kiss him.... *shiver*. Credit to Steve Valentine there - he did an awesome job.

I've been thinking more on this question and I did read the article. For me it's his loyality to me his fellow grey warden and as a HNF who has the opportunity to marry him. Playing the HNF I will never be disloyal to him. I will always choice him over Loghain. Playing as a female character I don't think I could ever be disloyal to him regardless of origin. Now playing as a male character I can see the potential of giving him the boot or being disloyal. Especially playing as dwarf or elf.

I fully understand why he leaves if you allow Loghain to join the wardens. You've been disloyal to the wardens from his view and to him. He won't associate with anyone who is disloyal to their sworn duty. You've aligned yourself with a traitor who betrayed his King, and country by killing his king or allowing the king to be killed and only looked after his own self interest speaking of Loghain here. Loghain even sold Ferelden's into slavery even though they are elves. This isn't right. I don't think it would matter to him weather Cailan was his half-brother or not, he was the king and Loghain's duty was to fight beside and help protect the king in battle, so for Alistair, Loghain failed in his duty to king and country. He is furious if you speak with Anora before the landsmeet and he is very vocal about allowing that type of person to sit the throne, meaning Anora might be like her father and put her own needs before others when push comes to shove. Being a Grey Warden has taught Alistair what duty actually means above all else and you'd think Loghain would have understood this. Alistair seems to have started growing as a person when he joined the Wardens vs being a Templar. I think if another option was available for the throne vs Anora he might have went along, but I seriously doubt this. So for me as a player and a female player it comes down to his loyality and his own convictions. He stands firm. This is a sign of a true man and a man you can depend on when it comes to life and death decisions. His decision to allow Anora to live when he goes to fight the Arch Demons shows he is a duty bound man and will stand for the fight. Zevran might do this for the right amount of coin, lol. He may love you, but if a man doesn't stand for what he believes in then he isn't the type of man you need to be with. Family and duty are above all else. Even Arl Eamon reminds Alistair of this. Personally, I don't like Arl Eamon, he is two-faced.

True enough but as many regulars here know,  my position on Morrigan is well documented. This does not make me the all knowing sage but it does at least lend some creedence to my position.

No, we haven't. We're Wardens, our duty is to defeat Darkspawn and Archdemon using any tools available. Hell, the idea of making Loghain a Warden comes from another Warden, a far more experienced one than either of us at that...

Because some people will constantly bash another character, this case being Alistair whom they feel is "a wimp" or "whiny", regardless of evidence to the contrary.

There is also the problem that you are forced to choose between Alistair and Loghain and between Alistair and Anora as monarch. Such choices tend to polarize people a lot as many want their choice to be "good" and without any regrets. So they prefer to hate one of them, rather than believe that there is no easy choice.

Yummmmmmmmmmm:wub::wub:

But really I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. I just really like the character. Much like Zevran or Morrigan, there are parts of each personality that I'm fond of. Alistair's awkward cuteness, Zevran's openess about his profession and sexuality, even Morrigan's cynical nature. The one thing that got me is when Alistair talks about his obsession with his hair and chesses. It reminded me of my husband (who kinda has the same hairstyle and LOVES cheese) and I just couldn't contain my SQUEE! moment.
It's easy for anyone else to say 'Oh, he's a big wuss' 'He's whiny' and so forth because not everyone is going to like that part of his personality, so that's completly understandable. To be completly honest, there are sometimes when I have a 'WTF Alistair!' moment. It's just a matter of personal opnion.

And Loghain is not necessary to that task. Riordan is an Orlesian, and quite likely unaware of everything that has happened, or the full implications of what he suggests. You have already gained an unexpected ally in Riordan, there's no real reason to add someone that you may not be able to trust, and who (arguable) doesn't deserve more than a traitor's death.

Alistair is bonkers in that scene, he was fine with Daveth who i think was nothing more than a criminal, or about half the origins who commited crimes deserving death. He is not thinking about the Wardens or blights, but only about revenge in that scene nothing more.

What a Loghain-esque observation.  And yet, the fact remains that the Orlesian - who probably has more reasons than Alistair not to love someone like Loghain - is still the one who recommends the Joining as an alternative to immediate death.  As far as not knowing what has transpired - you think Howe wasn't spouting his mouth off to a helpless prisoner every chance he got?  He went to Ostagar and looked over the bodies of his brothers and sisters decaying in the rot to get Duncan's records.  I think he had a keen appreciation for what had occurred and didn't let it stop him from making another Warden.  Four is better than three - the one thing he can't anticipate is Alistair's reaction which leaves you back at three anyway, which may be why he doesn't protest if you say no to the idea.  Three is three - four would have been better but Alistair's reaction ensures that you won't be getting more than three Wardens on the case in either event.  That's when Riordan drops it.

The original "debate" being why are women all hot in the panties for Alistair?

What's peculiar (as hard to believe as Callen riding off into battle without announcing a succession plan) is that having failed to convince you to enlist Loghain, Riordan doesn't suggest we find a recruit. It's a little hard to believe that there's no other skilled fighter in some kind of trouble in Denerim. If Loghain's a traitor, isn't Ser Cauthrien potentially in trouble as well? I'd love to have her as a Warden. Or perhaps one of Howe's men who's been caught in some nefarious activity--maybe wait until Denerim to do the backroom at the Pearl where they're trying to wipe out Grey Warden supporters. At least he can be persuaded the Wardens aren't Orlesian plot against Ferelden.

Yes

Although not truly a debate.
