What's peculiar (as hard to believe as Callen riding off into battle without announcing a succession plan) is that having failed to convince you to enlist Loghain, Riordan doesn't suggest we find a recruit. It's a little hard to believe that there's no other skilled fighter in some kind of trouble in Denerim. If Loghain's a traitor, isn't Ser Cauthrien potentially in trouble as well? I'd love to have her as a Warden. Or perhaps one of Howe's men who's been caught in some nefarious activity--maybe wait until Denerim to do the backroom at the Pearl where they're trying to wipe out Grey Warden supporters. At least he can be persuaded the Wardens aren't Orlesian plot against Ferelden.
This. Yes, it is like: Ok we can't take this guy because he's got to die for reasons A through ZZ but - there's gotta be someone else who can heft a sword that we can make drink the potion.
Then again, and this is the only reason I can think of which isn't a very good one but... it's what I have, if Loghain is killed maybe he doesn't reveal where he's been hiding the Archdemon blood? That's about all I can up with for "why not some of these people?"

Actually it would be a debate since both my sisters hate Alistair at the moment. One hates him for leaving the Wardens, her, and Ferelden in one fell swoop (pun intended) the other hates him for calling her a dirty elf mage, and calling her infertile in front of all her friends. Sad because they actually did like him through 90% of the game.
Which is why I said - why people would love Alistair seems pretty obvious BEFORE the Landsmeet. During and after are the questionable portions - because he changes his behavior or kicks it up a notch or however you want to say it.

Just look belowThis is WHY we are obsessed with Alistair **Swoon**
But really I wouldn't say I'm obsessed. I just really like the character. Much like Zevran or Morrigan, there are parts of each personality that I'm fond of. Alistair's awkward cuteness, Zevran's openess about his profession and sexuality, even Morrigan's cynical nature. The one thing that got me is when Alistair talks about his obsession with his hair and chesses. It reminded me of my husband (who kinda has the same hairstyle and LOVES cheese) and I just couldn't contain my SQUEE! moment.
It's easy for anyone else to say 'Oh, he's a big wuss' 'He's whiny' and so forth because not everyone is going to like that part of his personality, so that's completly understandable. To be completly honest, there are sometimes when I have a 'WTF Alistair!' moment. It's just a matter of personal opnion.
<3
I just cannot get over how amazingly SEXY he looks in this screenshot. I just want to peel his armor off with my teeth

I think that Bioware was just trying to put drama into the finale, it just seems like a cheap shot. Hell I think Alistair is funny and a good fighter but his getting blinded by revenge is sad to see. I dont know if he will ever forgive my Dalish since he and my Dalish said a few things in anger, and that is sad to see a friendship fall apart like that. It has to be twice as bad for someone romancing him I am guessing.

Both alistair and Anora really show themselves at their worst possible sides at the Landsmeet, if they don't get what they want. Interestingly enough Loghain happen to be at his personal best when he speaks before he gets executed if he loses. Probably somone spiked the beer in the hall...

You know - I never realized that, but you're right. Even at his execution I feel for Loghain.

Yep, I don't think that there's any doubt anywhere that Riordan = EPIC FAIL as a senior warden

His voice as well. I could just listen to him talk all day. His English accent is just yummy which is a big deal for me as I'm English myself so I've never found our accents very squee! worthy as to me it's just normal. But Alistairs is definitely Squee! worthy. I am now in love with Steve Valentine as a voice actor =D
This nailed it for me. It is absolutely Steve Valentine's voice and the way he delivers the lines. There is a sincereity in those lines that just make you melt. For me, the line that just epitomizes his talent is his breathy way of saying "Maker's Breath, but you're beautiful." It's not the saying I'm beautiful that gets me. It's the delivery of the line. I honestly can't imagine anyone else being Alistair and would be extremely disappointed if anyone else tried to be.

I absolutely get the Morrigan thing and I'm a woman.
Completely agree. And I really like Morrigan. I love getting her to feel like a sister to me. There are moments when her sincerity pops-out, but she knows what she must do. Thank her for her help before going into Denrim for the final battles. To a female Warden, her lines really moved me more than anyone else's (except Alistair, of course).

Well, it depends on how you feel about the whole thing, I guess. I can't imagine not having the same reaction as Alistair--except that I would have cut Loghain's head off right away, and avoided the whole issue.

Considering that this is a medievil styled game, him praising the chantry for it's education is more or being
thankful that he was taught to read.
In all fairness, that's more education than anyone not born to a noble family or trained by the Circle of Magi could hope for.

Medieval styled, but in a fantasy setting. There's no reason to assume that Alistair's education was so limited, because reading seems to be fairly common in Fereldan. There are books everywhere, in the houses of commoners as well as nobility. There is even a shopping list in the store in Redcliffe.
The education he got was greater than that recieved by many of the people who owned those books, or it wouldn't have been mentioned as something that made living in a place he hated a more positive thing.

The original "debate" being why are women all hot in the panties for Alistair?
Yes![]()
Although not truly a debate.
And the true question in that debate being why so many men don't understand it--or worse, are moved by that to tell women why they're wrong to find him appealling. That takes big brass ones.

It may be that the near destruction of the Tevinter Imperium by Andraste did not have the same impact on literacy rates in Thedas that the fall of the Western Roman Empire did in Europe. Literacy was not that unusual in ancient Rome...it probably wasn't in medieval Byzantium either, though I'm less sure of that.

I'm so Modded out that I never actually need ALi as my tank, just my LI and fav companion . I really don't go anywhere without him
I want to do a playthrough with just the 2 of us, although I wish there were some dialogue Mods out there that would add more conversation options if you only have the 2 of you in the party.

My personal definition of a "douchebag":
He acts like Vaughn, imagines he is Sten and don't understand why women prefer Alistair over him...

Meh, I'm prepared to give Alistair the benefit of the doubt. Everyone has some undesirable aspect to their character, don't they? And I bet we've all thrown a little temper tantrum at some point. People are allowed to have a few flaws. Perhaps putting him on that pedestal early on was the biggest mistake.
I actually commend Alistair's anger during the Landsmeet, I truly appreciate the fact that he gets pissed-off (he's very HOT when he's angry, too
